Julbri 0 Posted March 15, 2008 On a more persona note I study engineering in th institue of technology so would you know how to build a computer or are you working on the more programing side of it Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted March 15, 2008 lol. Building a computer isn't hard, the only hard part is ensuring everything is compatible, the rest just requires a screw driver and a anti static strap. Share this post Link to post
Julbri 0 Posted March 17, 2008 haha im thinking bout building my own computer Share this post Link to post

Doctor Destiny 41 Posted March 17, 2008 lol. Building a computer isn't hard, the only hard part is ensuring everything is compatible, the rest just requires a screw driver and a anti static strap. And I didn't even need my anti-static strap. I built mine in the basement on concrete. w00t. Share this post Link to post

Julbri 0 Posted March 18, 2008 what does an anti-static strap do any way, i know nothing about building my own rig Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted March 18, 2008 It stops you from frying your computer or components through static electricity. You don't really need one tbh, you can just touch the metal frame of the case from time to time, to dispel any static charge you might be carrying. Share this post Link to post
Julbri 0 Posted March 19, 2008 fair enough but i would probably forget haha any other handy hints before i try building my own rig? how long does it take? Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted March 19, 2008 how long does it take? About 30 minutes to put in your parts. And about 2 hours to install and update Windows. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted March 19, 2008 30 minutes build time!? Do you read a newspaper while doing it then? Try 15 minutes at absolute most. I could turn my machine off, strip and disassemble it completely, put it into a new shell, reboot and be back on the net in 25. And that's by being slow and methodical about it. I'd probably have time to make a coffee in between too. Share this post Link to post
Julbri 0 Posted March 20, 2008 Try 15 minutes at absolute most. yea but im a complete novice what was your first build time? Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted March 20, 2008 30 minutes build time!? I took 30 but it was my first build. I ****ed with the heatsink fan for 15 though. xD Do you read a newspaper while doing it then? Yes. Twice as a matter of fact. Try 15 minutes at absolute most. I could turn my machine off, strip and disassemble it completely, put it into a new shell, reboot and be back on the net in 25. Good for you, Mr Professional. Share this post Link to post
Dr. Rodney McKay 0 Posted March 20, 2008 (edited) It took two-and-a-half for my last one. I spent an hour trying to get the power supply off(I hate star screws), half-an-hour using metal snips to make the old faceplate for the power supply fit, and another hour putting it on and hooking it up. To be fair, I was eating and watching Stargate while I was building. Non-distracted, I can do it in twenty flat. Edited March 20, 2008 by Dr. Rodney McKay Share this post Link to post
Julbri 0 Posted March 20, 2008 haha so really if nothing went wrong less than an hour? Share this post Link to post
