Saracen 16 Posted May 6, 2008 I'm about 8-10 hours in now, and I wouldn't say it's any of that... Every GTA for example (including this one) has missions where you have to chase someone down on foot or by car... In the past, you'd often fail if they've left your sight. In this one, it isn't nearly as punishing. Cops are another example. In the past you had to keep moving not to be caught by them, in this one they'll often get you to get on your knees before slapping the cuffs on, and even when you've got a gun pointing at your head, you can still get the chance to pull a fast one, by busting out... Mind you this only works when you're in 1 or 2 star wanted territory and you've only got one or 2 cops making the arrest... otherwise, the cops can be damn ruthless as ever in higher wanted levels. The best example of marked improvement is the combat. The cover system allows you to get behind anything large enough to keep you protected. As a result, gun fights are more about skill and tactics rather than just gunning down hoping you live to fight another day. Although there are still a couple of problems with prioritising targets, and also, if you're in a fight and get flanked from behind... it is often difficult to defend yourself while getting a load of lead pumped into you.... But these are only minor and really your own fault if you happen to get into such a situation. The multiplayer though... damn, it's not just good... it's damn excellent, and I'd argue that it's worth the price of the game alone. But to go back to your original question. Really the game has improved leaps and bounds over San Andreas... You will run into a few really frustrating missions, but the game is more about skill and what choices you make during the mission. Plus the amount of timed missions has been cut back as well... those are what I found the most frustrating in previous games and it's good to see less of them. But the game eases you into the whole thing and has a rather comfortable difficulty curve for the most part. The cars handle realistically like typical crap American cars, so that's really the only constant major challenge Share this post Link to post
hagren 0 Posted May 7, 2008 "Plus the amount of timed missions has been cut back as well..." That's what I wanted to hear Damn, this makes the wait for a PC version even longer... Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted May 7, 2008 By the time a PC version is released you could save up some cash to buy a 360 or PS3 and copy of GTA 4 for it Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted May 7, 2008 But they might release some extra junk for the PC version. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted May 7, 2008 There is some "extra junk" coming later this year for the 360 version, in the form of download-able content.... take that PS3 GTA4 players If Rockstar do a PC version it will probably be a port of 360 version anyway. Share this post Link to post
Julbri 0 Posted May 8, 2008 im a big fan of the gta games, and so long as i can blow stuff up and bash people around im happy, and this version seems brillient, unfortunetly im the only one with money and no inhabitions out of my mates so i havent played it and they have no ps3 or xbox360 let alone gta. so im just gona buy a ps3 and gta4 when i get around to buying them. unfortunetly i heard it had been cencored!!! why would you do that!! sure its graphicly assulting prostiutes, but it isnt going to change me in any way Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted May 9, 2008 Yeah, the German, Australian and New Zealand versions have been censored from what I've heard as well. Can't remember where I saw that though. Germany is dead obvious... cos they're scared of upsetting anyone, and perhaps spurring on a potential little Hitler... and from what I'm aware, there was some content in the game that goes against some strange laws that you guys have got down under... so in order to not get an adults only rating, or have the game banned outright, they had to tinker a few specifics. Luk3us 63 Posted May 10, 2008 I doubt they'd censor the NZ version, they'd just stick it under the R18 rating. Though the Aussies probably would, since they don't have a rating higher than M or something weird for games. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted May 10, 2008 The NZ version is censored, and yes its an R18 game. In Aussie they have no R18 classification for video games so Rockstar had to make some changes, cutting out some stuff. Its mostly the sexual related content which has been toned down. The stupid thing is here in NZ we do have R18 classification for video games so the uncut version can be sold here, but for some reason (probably the cost) the local distributors gave NZ the cut Aussie version. On other words, since New Zealand is a small country we get shafted once again. And Rockstar/distributors don't give a ****. Cut or uncut, the NZ/AU release still features all the violence, foul language etc..... Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted May 10, 2008 Pah, that sucks. I'm surprised GPStore, or some other online retaliers, haven't jumped at the opportunity of importing some uncensored copies themselves, I'm sure they'd find plenty of people who would be interested. Share this post Link to post
Guest Rabbit Posted May 10, 2008 Did they completely remove the content from the game, or just cover it up? In San Andreas, they just covered most of the bad content up, and people hacked it back into gameplay. Share this post Link to post
Julbri 0 Posted May 13, 2008 can anyone out there tell me how much it costs where its uncencered, if im gona get it id rather wait longer, pay for postage, and get uncencered Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted May 13, 2008 You can import it from the UK. I don't know exactly where. If your under 18 you are not allowed to import/purchase the game though. Cut or Uncut no one under 18 should be playing GTA 4. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted May 13, 2008 lol.. Yeah, and of course any responsible online retailer would ensure that is the case.... Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted May 13, 2008 lol.. Yeah, and of course any responsible online retailer would ensure that is the case.... Mom's credit card is always valid. Share this post Link to post
Julbri 0 Posted May 14, 2008 isnt it cut in england!! i can get my sis to send me a copy for my birthday Cut or Uncut no one under 18 should be playing GTA 4. lighten up, are you honest saying you dont think anyone under 18 should get to play gta4. thated be like saying no one under 18 should be getting drunk or no one under 16 should be having sex. so if you where 17 and didnt live at home you would never get drunk or play gta4 yeah good old online retailers, much more responsible then any shop assistant Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted May 14, 2008 The law is really for retailers. Any retailer who sells the game to someone under 18 is breaking the law. If your 17, 15 or 10.... play the game, makes no difference to me. I've heard kids while I'm at work and when out public use more foul language than what I've heard in GTA 4 anyway. Ask yourself this though, is it really worth importing the uncut version for the corny animated sex scenes? Share this post Link to post
Louis EX 0 Posted May 14, 2008 Meh. You can't stop kids from learning foul language. Its like trying to stop 13 year old kids from watching porn, they will exploit every other alternative to watch that porn vid. Share this post Link to post
Julbri 0 Posted May 15, 2008 thats a good point but im the kind of person who would rather play a game as the developers want it then how the government (or aparently in my case the australian government) wants it Share this post Link to post
Louis EX 0 Posted May 15, 2008 thats a good point but im the kind of person who would rather play a game as the developers want it then how the government (or aparently in my case the australian government) wants it Yeah, I know what you mean. Censoring it is just makes the experience unsatisfying. Share this post Link to post
Julbri 0 Posted May 16, 2008 yeah and that its just not right to change what something is made into, its like a shop owner taking some of the taste out of an apple because he doesnt like tastey oranges, even though thats not how it should be Share this post Link to post
BioBen 3 Posted May 17, 2008 lol That was a very good metaphor. and quite true Share this post Link to post
