I turned it on when I use eMule and it gave me better results. Though, torrenting has been peachy even without obfuscating ports.

what the heck... all the speeds have gone blank o.O i can't see the upload or download or any actual information on any of the speedtest results o.O; the little box is there but where the numbers should be there is nothing XD; no isp, no location no ping no nothing o.O; funky. maybe they're having a website problem oO; anyway. i heard comcast are taking over america... or have taken over already oO; that true? also yey apparently the bill for free broadband goes through today so if all works out... it'll probably be in the news later today or tomorrow if it goes through n.n

Nah. Comcast is far from taking over. There's still plenty of Road Runner, Cox, Earthlink, etc users to keep Comcast from dominating.

It could be just coincidence, but I tested mine after installing FF3, and they all went up a bit

Doesn't really mean anything, maybe when you tested your connection before the server was under more load. Maybe something happened a bit slower.

 

Internet Speed does not rely on the browser (maybe to access sites, but not your overall speed).

I heard from someone that FiOs starts out fast but if a more people start getting it then it slows down alot, doesn't seem right though :S

Err, that's how all (maybe not all, but I don't see how they couldn't) internet providers work. If you had a pie and only had 3 people splitting it, you would get a lot. If you had 13 people, you would get less.

 

But what (most) ISPs do is have a cut-off limit so they only have so many people connected to their hub (donno what they officially call it). Also, you buy plans anyways so you're already limited. You can't just start sapping into everyone's connection, I am set at 5Mb down, 2Mb up. That's the fastest I can go.

 

The thing is internet is very flexible because say 10 people share my plan and we're all on one hub. Well even if the hub doesn't provide a 50Mb down, 20Mb up constantly, do you honestly think everyone connected to the hub is going to their full bandwidth at the same time?

 

Maybe 2 are P2P users so they are, but the rest might just browse the web, read email, read CNN, etc.

look up the world's fastest internet connection xD it's this little old lady. her son fitted a super duper connection in her house and she gets and insanely high speed... it was in the guiness book of records XD and all she does is browse the web, go on forums and read her e-mail XD; though that was like, last year... so some private company has probably outted that record by now o.O
