Earlier than originally planned, its the 12th edition of our popular Roundtable Discussion feature. And this one is our special "C&C Fan Only Edition". Topics such as Red Alert 3's SecuROM, RA3 Beta, Mystery Beta Key in the Premier Edition, The C&C Community, Improving fan sites and C&C Mods.

That was a great Roundtable; I enjoyed seeing everything from the perspective of other fans. Good job to all the fans who got to do it. :D

Crikey that was quick! :o

You see Sonic, a week is enough. Our community Webmasters should take note :P

That was quite an enjoyable read though. It's a great perspective, and I think it's done more than it's set out to achieve. It's spoken by the people for the people... who says communist quotes suck :P

Yeap, it's beautiful.

Yeah, I do feel sad about the mods & maps since C&C3 came in. I think the fans feel more happy and glorified when the old Westwood was around. After EA bought it as a hostile act, most of them lost their spirits and only a few survived.

You can't blame it on that. In my opinion the Westwood games were easier to mod. The coding wasn't so complex and the engines were easier to dig at than the modern day SAGE Engine. And then there's WorldBuilder, being the piece of non-user friendly crap that it is, maps aren't exactly easy to make any more... The Average Joe can't exactly just use it as a "pick up and go" app without reading through tonnes of documentation. Sure some people pick it up pretty quick. But these aren't the days where anyone can just create something on the fly, and have a skirmish map put completed in less than a couple of hours.

As the modding Roundtable saw, modders really slammed Apoc about this issue, and these are guys who have a clue what they're doing! The best map and mission editor I've ever used was the JTF - Joint Task Force editor. For a small Hungarian company, the devs really nailed that on the head! In fact it was so easy to use, it makes World Builder look like a course in advanced Quantum Physics!

I agree with the WorldBuilder thing. I tried using the Generals WorldBuilder, but after some time of frustration, I just gave up. It was just way too confusing. What would be best would to have them simple like the one for the original Red Alert, but some complexity only for those who want to get into it. That way everyone can use them but not all the maps are just land, water, and a few buildings.

The TrackMania editor works on that concept.... basic editor and advanced editor.

If I could make a simple map and have it work in a relatively short time, it would encourage me to go to higher standards, but when it's complex from the get-go there's not going to be much chance!

THANKS by the way Sonic for including me. "always a pleasure" - to quote from Iron Chef.

This roundtable turned out pretty nice. I'm especially glad that I was able to offer my opinion on the DRM. I don't think EA will change their minds though. :(

Yeah this fan only Roundtable has worked out ok. Probably will do another one in a few months.

Don't forget everyone can contribute to every Roundtable by suggesting questions and ideas, post them here http://forums.cncnz.com/index.php?showtopic=8830 if you have any.

The October one is a double special, Red October/1 Year of Roundtables. I want it to be BIG!

I really liked Alex06's suggestion about improving fan sites coverage... If EA would feature one or two fan sites each BCPT complete with description, nice screenshots, what they are good at, what they are bad at, it would really give all the fan sites a nice boost in activity :)

Mmmm... this would be really nice if it came true :D
