Duke 0 Posted November 21, 2008 Ever since the world's first thunder clap we've experienced music. Society's come and go bringing their own dynamic musical flavour that is constantly changing anyway to wherever they're going... So after swimming around in the melting-pot that is music for the past 20 odd years or however many more years we need to add to that for how long we've been alive (Saracen), what tickles your fancy? What do you like and not like? Let's talk about it and compare tastes, everyone's different and a person's musical preference represents a lot about them. In fact to stimulate conversation I propose...a list of your favourite top 10 bands of all time! Queen Muse U2 Relient K Foo Fighters Matchbox 20 The Beatles Skillet Yellowcard Nickleback Share this post Link to post

Occasionally I still pull the old CDs and have a listen. But in the end it always comes back to Metallica. Share this post Link to post

Avenged Sevenfold Zebrahead REDALiCE livetune feat. 初音ミク Miku Hatsune Disturbed System of Down Sum 41 Rammstein Linkin Park I couldn't put 10 bands so I had to put 3 that aren't exactly bands. And I don't listen to them (except 3rd to 5th) as much anymore. Now I'm into Japanese trance/happyhardcore so all the artists are random. http://www.last.fm/user/louis29126 Edited November 22, 2008 by Louis EX Share this post Link to post

BioBen 3 Posted November 24, 2008 Nice stuff! I'm more your rock musician: Guitar, Drums, Bass and a bit of Amateur Piano. Cool. Yeah i really appreciate what guitarists and drummers can do as i have tried my hand at both and failed miserably. When i'm making a more hardcore track or even just some funk, you can feel it begging for some guitar to fill it out or add that edge it needs, and soft synths just don't cut it. Next year I'm going to get one of my more guitar friendly mates to record for some tracks. However, these days drum machines can do practically anything which sadly is making drummers more redundant, still they can improv, and a computer can't Share this post Link to post
Mina Synd 0 Posted November 28, 2008 yah that irritates me. everyone jokes about drummers being idiots... and a lot of time with certain famous drummers, it is often true xD; but they have the ability to hold a beat for a long long time as well as multi-tasking in different timings. it's like patting your head and rubbing your tummy except your hands are doing half a dozen different things as well as your foot moving... heck, holding a constant beat is hard enough... and guitars are even harder, especially lead electric guitars @.@ a couple of years ago i tried taking it up... went an bought an electric guitar for my birthday o.o; left handed one (yup, i'm a leftie like hendrix xD) and started trying to learn. but i simply can't do it. my hands are too small and delicate to work over it properly... i can't hold some of the chords like you're s'posed to cos my fingers don't reach that far, so i have to improvise... and i can't practise for very long because it hurts my fingers so bad @.@; i played for about an hour or two and i had thick indentations in my finger tips for a whole week >->; so i've pretty much given up trying now... if i can't even do guitar hero what chance do i have with a real one? XD i would really love to be able to play both of those though. i would be able to do so much more with my life .-. Share this post Link to post
Duke 0 Posted November 28, 2008 Look at Dave Grohl, he started off drumming for Nirvana, then went on to be the lead singer/songwriter/music guru of the Foo Fighters. The idea with guitar playing is that it hurts your fingers heaps, but they strengthen slowly, no pain = no gain. Like I can play chords on a steel string acoustic for hours on end without a break now - my fingers are just so damn hard... Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted November 28, 2008 I'll keep mine short....Metallica.... that is all. I used to listen to lots of bands in the 90's like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden and a many more. Occasionally I still pull the old CDs and have a listen. But in the end it always comes back to Metallica. Damn, you got a lot of my taste except I can't really stand Metallica for too long. 1. Nirvana 2. Pearl Jam 3. Alice in Chains 4. Eisbrecher 5. Black Sabbath/Ozzy 6. Slayer 7. Radiohead 8. The Beatles 9. Beach Boys 10. Classical/Opera (Yes, I like Opera, stfu) Just saying as well, I love military marches. I found and mostly listen to old German WWII ones but that made me find US, Brit, French, and more and I love them all. Share this post Link to post
Mina Synd 0 Posted November 28, 2008 ...grohl was in nirvana?! awesome o-o and lawl, i'm influencing. i saw the beach boys on your list! XD military songs are pretty cool... a lot of soviet songs are awesome o-o the anthem for instance... the chinese one is pretty cool as well. on the subject of german i LOVE the panzerlied i had heard it briefly before but not paid much attention until i watched the battle of the bulge. good movie, lots of action and featuring both sides... however the whole american tanks being used as german ones... yaaaah... XD i noticed that straight away XD i mean they've clearly done all they could to alter them but it really makes no difference xD; M4 shermans and M18 hellcats... xD; it was really obvious too... (just on a random reference here - i'd love to see a movie with the T28 in it - http://www.battletanks.com/articles.htm hoo rah. 95 tonnes... the battlefield players will recognize it from secret weapons of WW2 expansion for BF:1942 xD i'm pretty sure it was never really used in combat since only two were made... but yah, just seeing a random action movie with it or one of the other super-heavy tanks produced globally... in a kind of "kelly's heroes" or "dirty dozen" type way. either having to steal an enemy prototype, having to destroy one or maybe focusing on the crew of one fighting xD) anyway back on topic >>; yah nothing wrong with classical or opera. i think you'll find a lot of historians and war fanatics listen to opera - especially gamers... for some reason, violent bloody war and opera seem to mix perfectly. kinda strange that ain't it? XD ...also in an instance of perfect timing (scarily so. this happens on a regular basis to me...) i just saw an advert for a new cd, opera. the singers are "the priests" basically three priests. the cd is recorded in a chapel in the vatican, with real priests singing. and i joke not, it literally came on the tv as i finished typing the last XD up there o.o; might wanna look into it. had a few classics on it like ave maria... and they seem to be pretty good... i'm a little stunned there though. i mean yes, i get these strange tv coincidences all the time... but holy crud! that was beyond perfect for what i'm typing about o.o; Share this post Link to post

XD You mean like this absolutely beautiful piece of music that was in the Platoon movie Samuel Barber's 'Adagio for Strings' was perhaps one of my father's favourite pieces. It's not hard to see why... Share this post Link to post
