Doctor Destiny 41 Posted December 21, 2008 Is it just me or do "fabric of time and space" and "simple" not belong together in that manner? Am I going nuts or is there something out of whack with BlyTwo's statement here? The fact he uses absolutes is really... I dunno... nutty. o_O Share this post Link to post
BlyTwo 0 Posted December 21, 2008 (edited) Something as 'complex' as space/time can messed with something as simple as electro-magnetism. ^ was what i meant. Edited December 21, 2008 by BlyTwo Share this post Link to post
Alphabear 11 Posted December 21, 2008 The theoretical idea of synthetically creating a y chromosome would essentually consist of cloneing a y chromosme from a male gamete anyway so while yes it could be theoretically possible, it would the offspring would share genetic traits from a male parent as well Share this post Link to post
Mina Synd 0 Posted December 22, 2008 once again, not necessarily alpha. who says it needs to be cloned? it might need to be cloned first of all... but once the technology becomes available they will be able to make them from scratch in a lab. and yes bly, people won't like it. but a lot of people don't like a lot of things. let's look at something obvious like homosexuality - that had been a taboo in most western cultures for a long time until about half a century ago. however even now people are so heavily against it, and it doesn't even affect them directly. go figure. in some cultures it was not only accepted, but a part of everyday life - the spartans for example. they would pair a young male with an older, experienced male. the younger would learn and be taught by the older one, also being his lover (by choice or by force. there is a lot more info on that and i could rant on about it, but you could also just look it up if you don't already know...) but y'know, once it becomes more commonplace synthetic birthing will become a common option. as it is we have artificial insemination, adoption, abortion and other things. in any socially advanced culture they are commonplace... so why not synthetic birthing later on in time? Share this post Link to post
Alphabear 11 Posted December 22, 2008 Sure Mina we may be able to make them completely from scratch sometime in the future, probably about the same time we learn how to teleport humans between galaxies. Until then the only way you are going to get a y chromosome that is not copied from a male originally is for it to come from a woman that was once a man (thus xy) or from a female with a genetic abnormality (eg xxy females). Mina Synd 0 Posted December 22, 2008 ...XD it's not gonna be -THAT- far ahead. as i said previously, the second we unlock and learn the DNA codes we will be able to make things from scratch. i see no reason why it wouldn't be the same for the Y chromosomes... and ALSO as i said before, technology is advancing so we are able to learn the DNA coding faster. chances are it will be very possible within our lifetime... at longest, maybe 200 years. at best it could be 5 years (if we had LOTS of scientists suddenly knuckle down and work on it. say something suddenly happened that stopped all women having babies or made all men impotent or something and forced the world's medical world to focus on a solution o.o; ) but if i were narrowing it down, i'd say between 20 - 50 years depending on the scale of technological increase... but i'm betting we WILL see it in our lifetimes, even if it's only the upper class that can afford the children because they are so expensive. even so, that would be a start y'know? Mina Synd 0 Posted December 27, 2008 well i dunno if we have the technology -right- now, but in the future minds will change. a lot of things that happen in the world nowadays would be considered VERY bad in the past. i mean nowadays we have equal rights (to some extent...) and technology and an advanced system with different laws covering pretty much everything... society just needs to open up a little more. i mean if you sent the average teenager nowadays back to say, medieval ages they'd probably be burnt at the stake as witches or something o.O; -ESPECIALLY- if they had gadgets and clothing... lord help them if they are bisexual or something o.O; but yah to a lesser extent it's just a small moral issue. really the only people who have big issues with this sort of thing would be the strict religious types who already have issues with gay marriage and abortion. my view is simply "it's not your problem - why should it matter to you?" Share this post Link to post
BlyTwo 0 Posted December 27, 2008 (edited) ...I don't think this world would allow it. Basically my point. And if they try to do it in secret, well it won't stay a secret for very long, and then come the global riots... But ya it isn't really a big deal babies die at birth... does that fall in the same category as abortion? Gay marriage does really disturb a lot of people. But the likelihood of massive riots and religious people that will after be labeled 'terrorists' t would be insane, kind of like if the world suddenly realized that there was an alien invasion coming, and the military knew about it all along, it would be absolute chaos... We have the technology now, we just lack the resources and manpower to try. Creating a strand of DNA is as simple as putting Lego pieces together (but on a microscopic scale) You just connect the nitrogen bases in the desired order, fiddle with the hormone timing and you have an artificial deoxyribonucleic acid strand. The witch hunts were later than the medieval times... And that word 'society' to me means control over it's inhabitants; society comes with crap like the TV, I bet any 6 year old that sees a hot-wheels commercial goes "I wannit!" Things tell you what to do everywhere... PS. what I have always wondered, is if there are only so many nitrogen bases in a DNA strand, wouldn't we eventually run out of DNA and hormone variations? (including all animals and likely extra terrestrial beings) Edited December 27, 2008 by BlyTwo Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 291 Posted December 27, 2008 We have the technology now, we just lack the resources and manpower to try. PS. what I have always wondered, is if there are only so many nitrogen bases in a DNA strand, wouldn't we eventually run out of DNA and hormone variations? (including all animals and likely extra terrestrial beings) It is said all humans are 99% similar. Out of that 1%, there are ~1,300,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 possible variations, not including anyone who has a different amount of base pairs in their DNA strands. A difference of which can be one, or hundreds, of base pairs. Throw in all possible base pair numbers and that remaining 99% and the number is too big to comprehend. It is close enough to infinite that not many people will argue with you if you call it that. Share this post Link to post
Mina Synd 0 Posted December 28, 2008 well like i've said before it's all a matter of technological advancement (for the practical side) and society's willingness to accept new things (for the moral and religious side...) now technology wise it'll be possible to complete (accurately) within the next 20 years, 50 tops with the currently multiplying computer power advancement... and technically it -is- as easy as putting lego together... you just have to have the right parts and the knowledge to do it no? admitedly it is insanely complicated and beyond our current abilities (unless you wanna end up with some hidiously mutated critter XD) but yah give our scientists and computers the power and ability to decode and simplify all the genetic codes. i mean heck, for all we know a couple of hundred years from now we may end up with a "design your child" system where you get a 3D console of your kid at some age level and you choose all their features, ranging from facial qualities to other things like animal qualities. maybe extra senses of heighened brain power o.o cos you know sooner or later that'll happen, both the designing thing and the improvements XD cos let's face it, if you had the option to make your kid better (or if you were just a furry or anime maniac and wanted a catgirl daughter, either anime style or anthro style) then you would go and give them those upgrades wouldn't you? XD Share this post Link to post

Malevolence 6 Posted December 28, 2008 It's kinda funny. In the past Male is the stronger sex than Female. After all the "Feminism" and "Women's Rights" awareness, Females are given equal status as Males. Then, some percentage of the women decide to manipulate and play around with "Women's Right" and even as far as using their sexuality as a tool, just do achieve what they want. Be it money, power or material things. So, from here I can deduce Women are not so different from Men after all. Humans are just playing around smartly in their lifetime in order to get Power, in which they will use it to make other "minions" miserable. Share this post Link to post
BlyTwo 0 Posted December 28, 2008 (edited) No to both statements. You have no clue what tech there is, you say you know, but you don't we can do almost anything we can imagine but people are either too stupid, too lazy, or it is a money problem, to try. You say you know, but you don't, you only know what you have researched either in books or on the internet, or possibly from TV which along with the internet is the most unreliable source of information. Do you really try to sound like you have no clue, or does it come naturally? No to both statements. That is almost a cliché line said over and over by the knd of people that once they see someone that has a different oppinion, you call them stupid. "You might know something different than me, he must be stupid." I see it all the time. It is said all humans are 99% similar. That is still a limited number... My curiosity was if say there were a novemvigintillion (or some other bizarre massive number) planets covered in millions to billions of species each individual with variations, what would happen if it ran out of combinations? Would it just start recreating species similar to other planets? And to note, there is not a number, even ones not named that can get close to infinity, because infinity is infinitely farther away from any number, even an incredible number like this: 1000¹ººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººº well like i've said before it's all a matter of technological advancement People think we need technological advancement, well i can tell you this, there are unbelievable technologies that we, as civilians haven't even heard of. Example: A Sci-fi city like the ones in, say Serenity, all that could be constructed as a perfect, operational replica, small personal aircraft, holographic billboards, the 'flying cars', having interplanetary traval, it is all in front of us, but there seems to always be a money problem in the way, we can't build a seventeen quadrillion dollar craft, no we don't have the money. We don't all have our own little VTOL aircraft, because they wouldn't sell, because they would be too expansive and no one would want one. (unless you wanna end up with some hidiously mutated critter XD) Mutations that severe would usually be fatal. but yah give our scientists and computers the power and ability to decode and simplify all the genetic codes. i mean heck, for all we know a couple of hundred years from now we may end up with a "design your child" system where you get a 3D console of your kid at some age level and you choose all their features, ranging from facial qualities to other things like animal qualities. maybe extra senses of heighened brain power o.o That's kinda funny... but being able to heighten your mental ability, you could end up with more and more people reading your quietly transmitted thoughts, and for a criminal; telekinesis would be a handy tool. cos you know sooner or later that'll happen, both the designing thing and the improvements XD cos let's face it, if you had the option to make your kid better (or if you were just a furry or anime maniac and wanted a catgirl daughter, either anime style or anthro style) then you would go and give them those upgrades wouldn't you? XD Yes, I would like to upgrade my child from a Level 1 Cyborg laser arm to a Level 2 (emphasis on 'maniac') Humans are just playing around smartly in their lifetime in order to get Power, in which they will use it to make other "minions" miserable. Nothing closer to the truth. Except the 'smartly' part, there aren't a whole lot of people that use critical thinking for their own pleasure. Most of them are duds in evolution, just a bunch of zombies that follow what s told to them with a catchy song, and flashy graphics. Edited December 28, 2008 by BlyTwo Share this post Link to post

My curiosity was if say there were a novemvigintillion (or some other bizarre massive number) planets covered in millions to billions of species each individual with variations, what would happen if it ran out of combinations? And to note, there is not a number, even ones not named that can get close to infinity, because infinity is infinitely farther away from any number, even an incredible number like this: 100¹ººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººº I think that is already obvious enough without your completely unnecessary and flamboyant example. You would fall under the category I so precognitively presented on your behalf, of the few that would argue it. that not many people will argue with you if you call it that. That's right, you lucky kid, I inserted those words because I knew they would apply. Climb your pedestal and suck in your gut, the world revolves around you. BlyTwo 0 Posted December 28, 2008 (edited) Oh, it is most definitely cliché, but it applies nonetheless. Also note, I did not say you were stupid, I said you sound like you have no clue. I don't really care about the application of your statement. If there were enough planets, and enough critters living on them, due to its finite condition, yes, they would have to repeat. When have people ever perfectly, accurately predicted anything? Things to remain as food for thought until we see it. Climb your pedestal and suck in your gut, the world revolves around you. If your nose isn't obscuring too much of your vision and you feel so inclined, do tell us about the view from on high. That's a complete understatement. And I hope that wasn't supposed to be racism. For not having every last microscopic detail I don't do bad at filling in logical details. Rather than being driven by the blanket statements by the news or a website hosted by an imaginative retard. And also something else to add, is recently I have been working on being able to think less like a human, and more of an observer of the universe. People think so small, "I hope i make it to work on time" What the hell does that matter for? Why do we even work? To get money. Why do we get money? So we can live and buy video games, and then go to work some more. What is the point? Even saving lives, we save live so they can go back to work, to get money, for food etc and help Junior to school to learn more about our tiny meaningless world. (WTF? you may say... I'm kinda on the same thought) Edited December 28, 2008 by BlyTwo Share this post Link to post
Mina Synd 0 Posted December 28, 2008 malevolence, what has women's rights got to do with it in that context? there will always be power hungry people regardless of their race, age, creed or gender... that much i know. but this is talking about two peoples (two male or two female) right to have a child of their own. you really can't say that they would make a child for evil, because that could apply to any hetrosexual couple too. and i wasn't speaking just lesbian couples. the theory applies to gay couples too, they would just need some kind of lab enviroment in which to spawn the foetus and allow it to grow as opposed to having a womb right there... and yes bly, i know these technologies exist. if i remember right, another member of the board (saracen was it?) actively supports a certain architect and developer who has created many futuristic building designs and vehicles, as well as materials such as a plastic-like material that reforms it's shape from a folded square... and you wouldn't need some rediculous amount of money like that to build a flying car or VTOL craft... i happen to know that at least two seperate "backyard" scientists have created their own VTOL vehicles (one being a star wars speeder bike and the other being a fully sized car, which if i remember right was a red lambourgini o.O; ) and they made them basically out of junkyard parts and things they bought from local stores. ...admitedly it cost them about the price of a small house to build, but that -is- a workable price if you really wanted one that badly... may be hella expensive but it is possible for an average person to build. i don't think it even cost them that much. and if you knew where you could get parts cheaply even better o.o anyhow let's STOP WITH THE PERSONAL BASHING PEOPLE >_> heated discussion is one thing but let's hold it at that instead of shooting insults at one another... sith_wampa 6 Posted December 28, 2008 From what I see here, every assumption Blytwo makes he considers to be fact and with that he believes that he is better than everyone else. So far I have seen nothing other than Blytwo's uninformed opinions and assumptions trying to compete with ideas that Nmenth can easily support. It seems that he is creating arguments in every imaginable situation, and then convincing himself that he is right only to further inflate his distorted ego. I can hardly believe the amount of arrogance that blinds Blytwo. Even when people have come out and said in plain English that Blytwo is being irrational, he still cannot comprehend what is being said to him. So as I see it, the only way this situation can improve is if Blytwo wakes up into reality, which I believe is impossible. The way I look at things now, most everything Alphabear, Doctor Destiny, and Nmenth have said has been supported. I wish I could say the same for others. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted December 28, 2008 I don't really care about the application of your statement. Not surprising. You don't get it half the time anyway. And also something else to add, is recently I have been working on being able to think less like a human, and more of an observer of the universe. That's code for social reject. People think so small, "I hope i make it to work on time" So? Work is a part of life unless you're filthy rich, extremely lucky or you're a bum. What the hell does that matter for? Why do we even work? So we don't live like bums. Why do we get money? So we don't live like bums. What is the point? Not living like a bum. Maybe a life of quiet dignity. Even saving lives, we save live so they can go back to work, to get money, for food etc and help Junior to school to learn more about our tiny meaningless world. (WTF? you may say... I'm kinda on the same thought) I'm going out on a limb here and I'm going to say you're a social outcast. You have no real friends, couldn't get a job or hold one down for more than two days, you have a huge problem with any sort of authority, you're probably unkempt and homely. You seem to be a sour, bitter, unhappy individual with a disdain for a society you're completely ostracized from for whatever reason. How am I doing? Share this post Link to post

To be 'factual' no one really has at all in any of the debates I have been in. I state my opinion and play the role to support it. You missed the point, which just proved DD right. No I am not misunderstanding, I just don't agree. I can understand most things I come accross in a snap. Again, another assumption. How is a question an assumption? There are three aspects of the human function. Mental, physical, and social. You are clearly lacking in social, however there seems to be some potential left in mental. There actually is another, it is almost never talked about and it is similar to spiritual, but not quite. It is all to do with what part of your brain are you most developed in? I am a left brain. Have you no pride? There is something fundamentally wrong with you if you haven't any basic human urges such as desire to be accepted socially, no matter how small that may be. I have no need for glory or pride, as long as I understand as much as I can about our universe. That does not make me wrong, it makes me in control of my urges and wants. And i seek to know why thing are the way they are, because their must be a purpose, or is that thinking too human? Perhaps there is a need for a new word, one never heard of in any language, one or more words that can guide humanity to understanding what can't be understood. We can only think as far as the limits of our languages, and the limits made by instinctive nature, which is what we evolved on. Or did we even evolve the way we think did, are we purposely made to be unable to discover what we are doing here? That is a distinct possibility. Do you have any better understanding of the importance of existence if it really is too complex for the human brain? I think about stuff like this sometimes, while I'm on the bench taking a breather between shifts playing hockey, I think "wtf is the point of this? put a small round plastic disc between some metal and you can be a god if you do it well?" then I think well I sure as hell need something to do during my life so why not play hockey? why not get a job? why not live with dignity? what else do we have to do? No I said that there is something, a fact missing, something we don't know, and we never will be able to understand it, therefor it is complete unpredictable, and we may never know it. Purpose of hockey: Fun, Glory, Money; a crap load of money. But my question is why to we care about fun, glory and money? Who was the dumbass that decided that everything you wanted to get you had to give something for it? Why do we care? What is the point of emotion? Our brain being capable of thought...? Why get a job other than to live some more, without known purpose, but then again, why am I bugging people about this? No one ever really cares, as long as they get their glory, dignity, and mainly entertainment. (I am not pointing fingers at anyone specific) Dignity is great and all but wtf are people getting their nickers in a twist for? Edited December 29, 2008 by BlyTwo Share this post Link to post
