Command & Conquer 4 - Official Press Release

Recommended Posts

I don't understand, how come people do not complain a 3 or 4 faction Blizzard game while the EA RTS games are all received complaints when they're in their 3 or 4 faction state?

Maybe people can't trust EA not to screw it up.

Personally, I like more factions. More everything, like units, buildings, upgrades.

I designed a game with 5 factions, 80 buildings, 45 base defenses, 90 purchasable upgrades, 61 infantry units, 67 vehicles, 45 aircraft, and 25 naval units. The kind of diversity I like... and I was working on it before Generals ever appeared.

Mods are different, people can't complain much because mods is just the icing or decoration for the cake, not as one of the main ingredients.

But anyway, the RA3 : Resurrection mod is cool too, but a total of 7 is not cool for me & to some others, out of the 7, I rather get rid of Germany & Federation, they're not needed.

Speaking of adding factions here and there, 4 can be lethal if EA is not careful, Blizzard gone through it and it paid off when they gamble with WC3 like I did mention. But 5? That is suicidal, man! EA will be gambling the franchise AND our fandom with it.

I agree, there's just not room enough for 5 factions in that world. And having a "Forgotten" faction would be wierd since the game has to be balanced and Forgotten is no way near as strong as Nod and GDI.

But comeon don't you miss the CABAL voice when you play with Nod?

Who said anything about mods?

Actually, if Nod & GDI fight together to do something against the Tiberium than there has to be at least one more faction who oppose them - otherwise whom would you fight in the campaign?

When you said "Personally, I like more factions. More everything, like units, buildings, upgrades.

And designing a game is no easy task, it's a huge task which the EA team can accomplish that. There's a big difference between a new game & a mod.

Not always necessary, in the old times, there's Red VS Blue or Black VS White. Like the old C&C games & even Warcraft 1 & 2, 2 factions are very common and usually fun. But having 3 sometimes can have its drawbacks, especially not to mention hardcore 2-faction game fans who loves 2 faction games. Blizzard was very clever to put Starcraft 1 with 3, AND even cleverer when they gambled Warcraft 3 into 4 factions, making them more successful than EA. Blizzard games receives nearly 0 complaints regarding 3 or 4 factions, but unfortunately, when EA put 3 factions, fans complain. And there's a difference which I don't understand why, why EA receives complaints while Blizzard doesn't when it comes to multiple factions rather the original 2?

Just a note though, too much units and stuff, you scare the sh*t out of newcomers and average gamers. Too simple, you p*ss the hardcore C&C fans. I think the current amount of units and structures in RA2, Gen, C&C3, RA3 are pretty excellent and balance to favor both of these groups. It doesnt matter if how many factions are there in the game, the most important thing is that they deal with a proper storyline first. You don't have to create a godzilla amount of unique units and stuff to impress people. It doesnt work that way.

No mod. My own game. True enough, it is far from finished and I've been working on it for years, of course I'm doing it alone.

I got moderately annoyed when Generals came out, because a lot of my ideas for my game appeared in it. Then with C&C 3, some more did. I joke that my house is bugged and they are stealing my ideas.

I found the number of units available for each side in RA3 to be lacking though. I like having lots of units. I think balancing becomes easier with more too, as potential tactics to attack/counter your opponent increase exponentially for every unit you have available.

I hope that C&C 4 has better variety. If their mobile bases are like KW epic units, will it just become a race to tech up first? TS had the Mammoth Mk II and Cyborg Commando, but they had weaknesses that really made using them a lot different than the KW epics. You wouldn't march a MM2 up to Nod's front door and face off against two Obelisks, but I've taken on eight Obelisks with a MARV before, no problem.

Indeed, and it kind of annoyed me to see the way Scrin turned out as a faction too. But things are moving forward and even though us hardcores may have many things to complain about EA is doing pretty damn well.

I don't comprehend why some people are so vehemently opposed to more than 2 factions.

A small selection of other games: Starcraft has 3, Warcraft 3 has 4, Dune 2000 has 3, Emperor Battle for Dune has 3, Dawn of War has 4 (the Winter Assault expansion pack has 5, the Dark Crusade expansion has 7, and the Soulstorm expansion has 9), Supreme Commander has 3 (the Forged Alliance expansion has 4), , Earth 2150 has 3, Age of Empires III has 8 factions (the WarChiefs expansion has 11, the Asian Dynasties expansion has 14).

Of course, it is not necessary BUT a WHOLE campaign like this would be kinda strange - though, of course, I wouldn't be surprised if Nod would have a fraction who doesn't agree to work together with GDI.

Regarding Blizzard and Warcraft III: However, Warcraft I didn't have that much factions (4) - nor Warcraft II - but the point is that they were mostly balacned (at least after a few more patches).

The problem with C&C might be that not many trust EA to balance more than two sites well (maybe not even two).

Nevertheless, I want to have at least the Scrin back (not because I liked them so much in Tiberium Wars but because it would be strange regarding the story) because after the ending of Tiberium Wars it would be strange to not have them in the final story part.

Also the Scrin could undergo a major change now. After all the force we saw in Tiberium Wars was just a collection force and not an invasion force. However, according to the end the next time we see them, it would be a full invasion force.

WHOW! That's a whole lot of games which uses tons of factions. I really wonder, Dune 2000 & Emperor were no problem during their release, but I'm not sure if fans complain. And the further games like Age of Empires III & its expansion has tons even more? I wonder if fans in their forums ever complain for having too many factions. :o

I don't think many does. By having more factions you will always have one that fits you best. Sadly it's no longer like in the old days where people where like GDI 4 life!! or Nod FTW!! It's harder taking a side when theres more than 2.

I hate games that has too many factions, too confusing especially when I have no knowledge of their gameplay and stuff. In conclusion, I just don't play them at all.

4 factions as a max for me. I don't know but it seems 4 does always end up being better than 3, but 2 is also better than 3. so.. 3 is just a bad number I guess.

The number of factions is immaterial to me.

I just want faction diversity.

I want genuine strengths and weakness that lead gamers to favour a faction based on gameplay options.

I can't stand mirror factions with different skins.

I want more than variations of 10% to their armour, speed, and damage values between factions.

---

I think Scrin can be easily re-invented, because this was only security forces for a mining expedition. An invasion force can be completely different.

---

I'm only now just realizing that plot points from TIBERIUM will be salvaged into C&C4, ie Nod/GDI co-operation.

A Scrin Primal unit spinoff would be cool.

that was old C&C3 concept right?., Looks like the develop team didn't really use it :)

I think Scrin was quite overpowered considered that they where so called "security force".

Nod and GDI definetly has to co-op if they come up against a so called "Invasion force" then.

Yeah old C&C3 concept stuff. More here http://www.cncnz.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=8

It was the leaked screen shot during the BFME community summit at EALA in August 2004. It first appeared as a photo taken by someone when they spotted it on a monitor at EALA, it then went on to cause a major buzz through out the entire C&C community.

maybe the force was OP because it was the last shot the scrin had at saving their planet?

another reason i love(d) the C&C universe - so rich in plot

nod, gdi, & scrin are necessary factions. PERIOD.

I predict that there will be massive collectors editions for C&C4.

I have the feeling that the bonus item may just be some downloadable content.

Cool. I really like the old concept. But it looks nothing like the game sadly.

Some item or figure would be damn awesome!!1 but I don't really care for an extra map that is available for the rest in a month or so.

I have my doubts on this one, Apoc better set things right even if C&C4 is going to be the last game for the Tiberium universe. I don't want downloadable goodies, they'll be available for public weeks or months later. Give me something that is worth keeping, like an art book, action figure pewterines, etc.. Anything that is hardware based, downloadables are software based which are not worth as treasures.

Speaking of that, I even saw Modern Warfare 2 got something more unique when I was at IGN. Read this one out :

Modern Warfare 2 will be released in three different editions: regular, which will consist of only the game and instruction manual, "Hardened," and "Prestige." The "Hardened Edition" will consist of the game, manual, an art book, a code to download the original Call of Duty game, and be packaged in a steel case. The "Prestige Edition" will contain all of the content of the "Hardened Edition," but will also include "fully-functional" night vision goggles designed by Infinity Ward and a sculpted head stand.

Now that's what I'm talking about, even Infinity Ward really know how to impress their customers. Come on, EA, if they can do it, so can you, why downloadables? Don't be stingy, give us something that is worth collecting, T-shirts, pewterines, whatever but PLEASE NO downloadables!
