Scanned Screen Shots from PC Jeux

Guest Stevie_K

It really looks like they have put much more feeling into the game than they did with C&C3 and KW.

I just hope they bring back the creatures and foliage from FS which was missing in both C&C3 and KW and the reason was not explained at all. (Tight schedule and money might be the main reason :( )

I also hope they compensate the new gameplay design with alot of tactical features. It looks like it's going to be one of those games where you have to think a little before making a move.

It's still at a very early stage to release ingame screenshots, with that in mind I can only say that it looks good.

My only request at this point is: more creatures, plants, tiberium and some signs of previous civilization. I mean come on, this looks like it could be on mars we are fighting.

If I move posts from the other thread to this one they will be ahead of the news post above and in turn mess up the main page on the site.

This is one of the things I hate, making early comments that are skipped over when posted to the news section. But the screenshots and info produced such an emotional response that I couldn't help myself. I realise the contribution of the comments has varying merit, but perhaps in future you can reference the original thread for those who want go back and look at more comments. I know you've done it the past, I suppose the difference is when you were aware of the news but someone posted it first elseshere... those don't get linked. But when it's something you didn't know, then give credit to the original poster/thread.

You know the funny joke? The biggest joke of all time among fanboys: "I will NOT buy this game!" threats. If you are not buying it, then, you shouldn't give a crack about the development of the game, just... stay away, it won't hurt. But nooooo, you come all the way to these forums and other gaming sites and start these threats, seriously, if I were one of the developers I would just ignore you, *waving finger* and that little "request" of yours.

Point is... Just reply nicely, folks, you may get what you want if you stop these ridiculous threats.

Keep in mind everybody, when the little boy cried wolf, he got himself into trouble!

And while 'boycott' is ultimately the only commodity that counts with a company that is in the business to make profits, it should be treated as a last resort not the opening line of dialogue. Because this a "mutually assured destruction" kind of thinking. BTW, all personal attacks on the staff of EALA need to stop immediately. And "generalisations" about the community and the developers should be avoided at all costs, if necessary they can be replaced with personal statements... ie. "I" instead of "they".

There's so much irony generated in this one thread, it may just explode! :P

(snip)

This appears to be a game crafted with a little more love than other EALA predecessors. I hope to god that EALA ignore the fans and do their own thing here... Because I think the Franchise as a whole will stand a better course with RTS players everywhere if it remains permanently away from fan service altogether.

What sort of mixed up, parrallel dimension have I woken up in when Saracen is making reasonable, amiable posts? And over several days even! :)

In retrospect some of the changes in C&C3 might have been better if they stuck to their guns, but I don't believe a RA3 economy mechanic in C&C4 is one of them - especially in light of the fiction. Updating gameplay mechanics for the modern industry is one thing, but fitting them into universe canon is quite another.

heh, the loss of a rabid, uncontrollable tiberium field is a violation of my C&C gamer's rights!

:)

Oh my god this is awful. Pre-defined Refinery locations? Crawlers instantly replaced? What the heck man?! What's the point of killing an enemy crawler if it is INSTANTLY replaced?? Don't say gaining massive xp from a large unit kill. You can take your xp and shove it. I could not possibly care any less about xp than I do right now without going below absolute zero.

You know what Malevolance? You want to know why I give a crack? Because I wanted to like this game. I had truly hoped beyond all hopes that it would turn out to be something I could enjoy. I care about good fiction and storytelling about the human condition and struggling for survival. But no, every piece of information is adding to my disappointment. Nothing short of a massive overhaul of the gameplay could interest me enough to buy the game at this point.

I firstly wanted to say I like the idea of your new signature. But I would do it based on whether I would buy the game...

preorder --> release day --> within first month (depends on cash flow) --> after first discount (20%) --> after major discount (50%) --> bargin box (80%) --> boycott

Right now I have no interest in the pre-order, mainly because I am so dissapointed with almost all the news I hear, and the visual impact of the screenshots. That may change if pre-order goodies over-ride my lack of interest.

That being said, this beta test (which I should be in) is going to be a true examination of the game and vital to determining whether I will buy it.

Alright then, anyways now on the topic of crawlers.

While I like some of the new makeover of the units, especially the mammoth mk II remake, I personally frown whenever I take a look at the Crawlers. Yes they are huge, but the looks kinda bad. The GDI crawler looks like some headless beast of sorts, and I never like the legs of the Nod Crawler, I was hoping for a C&C3 Nod MCV style or the Nod "crawler" concept art (fan-made?), the one that looks like a giant crab...

Unlike the C&C3 beta - which was simply an early play of the game I was always going to get! I am really unimpressed with the crawlers. Quoting myself from other thread...

I just realised as self-contained, war factories, these are smaller than I expected, and smaller than needed.

I was excited about KW *because* of the EPIC units and Brother Marcion, but nothing in C&C4 has caught my interest. The crawlers have actually quenched my interested. They are too small and bland... boxes on legs! Where are my KW epic units in this game or some of their spiritual ancestors? I think it's neat that the TibSun Mammy is back as a crawler... but I prefer the MARV over all these GDI crawlers. Actually I would prefer a giant spaceship, or a literal crawling base on tank treads.

Well, what do you think these arrows are for on all the little UI windows?

Hmmm... that's an interesting point, I hope it's true that we can play with it. But I'm one of those who don't care where the command bar is located. I prefer it on the side for old-times sake - but it's a non-issue in the boycott stakes.

In summary, I'm very discouraged by everything, but the beta test is going to be the most important factor in determining my game purchase.

Well, the crawlers are supposed to be class-specific, so they might be visually different as well. Also, the Epic Units just were big, they weren't very well designed. These crawlers are even bigger and clunkier, so what's not to love? :P

That's not really accurate though. For example, I probably won't buy it until at least its first discount, but mainly because I'm cheap. I would have to be extremely enticed by a game to pay full price, the last time that happened was Yuri's Revenge. I do not foresee this game making a big enough comeback from the edge of the abyss to become the next Yuri's Revenge. I generally spend as little money as I can get away with. A phrase I've used more than once: My patience far exceeds my willingness to spend money.

Actually you cant resort everything to gamer's rights. It's a guideline, and EA is not using that as part of their guidelines. So the talk about gamer's rights is pretty much invalid.

At this point of time its very hard to judge whether this product is extremely disappointing or to see if its's worth to purchase.

Twas a joke!

Well I can, based on the track record of C&C3, and KW.

First glimpses were pretty consistent, for me, right to the retail box.

But as I have been saying, the Beta will be critical test.

Hags... I was going to say the crawlers aren't bigger, but perhaps re-looking at APOC's image maybe they are bigger than I was thinking. I guess it depends if the mammy Mk2 is a crawler, epic or ordinary tank unit. I know it isn't but I want a crawler to look more like the background image of what looks like the Kodiak.

And this is kinda off-topic, but looking at the original pic from APOC, we can see what appears to be scorpion tanks on the ridge in an undeployed fashion, with the tail flat and point forward... and other scorpion tanks on the ramp in a deployed fashion. Maybe Mal gets his wish with claws helping in the stability of the unit.

I'm also wondering if the front-line mechs are a variation of the TibSun tick tank, which is deployed into a defensive mode... note the red shield!?!

Yea I was wondering about that. As usual Westwood Traditionalists will be saying how good C&C was and how well it'll be in an alternate timeline where Westwood's still around. The EA fanboys will be going "C&C3 Pwns!" when RA3 comes out and when C&C 4 comes out they are going how great RA3 was.

That's absolutely true. Also, jarzka is a jackass :P

gben: Perhaps with CnC3, but there were huuuge changes from the early and final screens with RA3. And yes, those are shields. They are deployed when they stand still.

With each new game, it progressively gets worse?

Personally, I think Yuri's Revenge was the pinnacle, hence that little icon I have over next to 'Favourite C&C:'

User ignore feature works really well in these situations ;)

I thought Yuri's Revenge got a bit "out there" in terms of what units Yuri's side had.

Anyway, I'm actually looking forward to getting rid of these ugly, horrible low grade scans very soon.

That is true, but it didn't detract much from the overall enjoyment of the game. I didn't really see any seriousness being added with RA3 though. I think the Empire could be easily argued to have been even further "out there".

I prefer RA2 over Yuri's Revenge, everything was in Yuri's favour in that game.

I wouldn't say things get progressively worse with each iteration. Because this C&C4 is an EPIC LEAP away from what C&C3 and the other C&C games were like before. So yeah.

Nah, Yuri was tough in defense, but his offense sucked like a thirsty vampire. If you played with or against him, you just had to know his strengths and weaknesses.

I wouldn't either, that's why I put that little ? at the end of my statement.

Yuri's faction is pretty flawed anyways.

Lighting, water effects, weapon effects, colours, textures...

Looking at these screens I'm reminded of the awsomeness that is RA3. Might have to reinstall it again.

well even those 2 screens from ra3 are the very first alpha , you can see how much progress was made and how much polished was the final game, specially in the visual area.

now we all have to wait and hope cnc4 will have that huge change as it is been developing next months.

Well, textures, lightning and models will be some of the things needs to be worked heavily on when talking about these new screenshots imo.

But it's obvious that the units is either directly taken from KW or is quick and sketchy. I see an opportunity for them to make a beautiful game.

But please keep the cartoony style textures to the RA series. It won't look pretty in a Tiberian game.
