C&C 4 Unit Profile - GDI Hunter

Recommended Posts

There is new Command & Conquer 4 unit profile on the Official C&C Site. Today we get a profile on the GDI Hunter. And as always this profile features a short in game video, concept art and extra information. Here is a sample....

The Hunter is an evolution of the APC chassis from the Third Tiberium War. Although the APC chassis was not originally crafted to withstand direct cannon fire, significant modifications which combine a new generation armored hull with an upgraded version of the APC powertrain allow the Hunter to maintain an acceptable armor rating while retaining its speed advantage. Despite these improvements, the Hunter can't quite match the armor of other tanks, forcing it to rely on its speed when engaged in heavy combat.

Actually the chassis looks better than I expected... but what's with the candy stripped barrels?

One of the better looking units. :) Even if it isn't really a tank, tanks need treads dammit! ^_^

I imagine it as a Mobile Artillery equivalent.

Why did they not model from this first concept art?

That concept doesn't look as sleek and refined, but at least its barrels aren't stripped.

Concept art always looks better than the final product.

True in this case.

What's with all the cartoony sutff? They really should have made the barrel proportions after the concept.

The wheels on the concept is an astonishing detail. The fact that they don't come with the final product, gives the unit a great lack of personality.

I can't describe my hate to silver colored parts on tanks. Reminds me of childrens toys, not serious warfare vehicles.

Just an other tank in my opinion, nothing special to see here. 5/10

This aint a tank really. More of a Self-proppeled gun or a Tank destroyer.

Units like these exist in reallife. The French ERC 90 Sagaie Armed reconnaisse vehicle, the AMX-10RC Tank destroyers or the italian B1 Centauro tank destroyer. The centauro has quiet some simularities with the GDI hunter.

Its good that this concept is introduced in C&C4.

+4 for this unit Profile APOC

(Now give us the Kodiak profile :)

Why did they not model from this first concept art? The one shown ingame looks not as impressive as the concept art.

If Westwood is still alive, I'm sure they'll pick the concept art for sure and scrap the average meh final design.

qft

Well, it's the only unit they showed us so far that looks acceptable. I really hate their cartoony unit designs.

Indeed, they do exist, you should note, however, the lack of red stripes on those vehicles. There is a very good reason for that, it looks incredibly stupid (and the fact that red is not a good camouflage, but that's a secondary point at best).

But you can continue to complain about every dam single detail. IRL this is dumb.Yes. But this is still a game

IMO the Hunter looks good. The origenal concept looks better, but heck.

But this is still a game

In order to live up to the level of seriousness and realism from the previous games, Über buffed cannons and awkward coloring is something you should really try to avoid.

Many of these details will make the younger players go "Dude look at my unit, it has a bigger cannon than yours", "yeah but mine has four arms and is 50 feet tall!", "oh yeah Tiberian Twilight is so awesome!".

Ughhh, please rate it 18+... please... and bring back the dramatic infantry screams, squishing and some blood. (meh, times have changed haven't they...).

It is a game, but that is not justification for poor unit designs. Red and white striped barrels might look fine in Red Alert, but the tiberium universe needs higher seriousness then that. Just because this unit looks better than some of the others does not mean it is ok. Any game can be good if you lower your expectations far enough, but I don't subscribe to that way of thinking... if a company wants my money, they will have to increase their standards to my level, not the other way around (of course, they get to ride on Westwood's ticket here as I will buy C&C4 anyway simply because the series was good enough to bring me in in the beginning).

Quite right.

I also find the concept art better than the final design, especially the wheels.

Personally the concept of the GDI Hunter rubs me the wrong way (anti-tank turret on wheeled chassis... despite it being a legitimate and real-life military unit) but I *really* love the concept art here.

I love the detail in the drawing.

I hope Nash spends some quality time on this image... don't waste your time with that Commando!

:)
