Oh yeah, I read about this a while ago, pretty damn invasive. At least Steam tells you when they're about to spy on you. :(

So it basically takes a snap shot of the computer the Origin software is running on and sends to EA. ****, doesn't Windows already do this anyway? Microsoft having been doing **** like this for years. Its not like its going through your private files and e-mails or anything.

EA, big company.... so lets all bitch about their software and attack them

You guys will have no choice to use Origin one day anyway, chances are the next C&C will "require: it like Battlefield 3 does. I'm not really bothered either way.

Oh well, nothing new. PC gaming is predominantly online now, such is the way. I'd argue that it's killing the PC games market, and especially in this country. No-one really cares for PC games. I used to be able to walk to my local games store to pick up a PC game... that's like 200 yards from where I live. If I wanted one this year, I'd have to drive 8 miles down the road.... Now however, I have drive double that to pick up a hard copy of anything I do want. Or, I wait until I'm in an area that does sell a PC game, cos I'm certainly never buying or downloading from online stores.

Fuel ain't cheap around these parts. To put it in perspective to most of the American users here... we're over $10 a gallon now. If I think I'm driving a 35 mile round trip just to buy a game, then I must be crazy to waste such money... No wonder piracy continues to get higher.... I'd rather join them.

Well, as far as buying is concerned, you can always turn to Amazon and eBay ^_^

As for piracy, they're getting nailed too. Just look at Blizzard, who made Starcraft II so complex that three well-known pirate teams made cracks for it and none of them works without being redirected to the real Battle.net, rendering the game unplayable!

Thats an idiot approach imo. No offense :)

Because EA is a big company, it's okay for them to break the law?, and especially because Microsoft (might) have done it already?

I don't think people are "bitching" about EA's software because it's a large company. I'd think it's probably more because people have had some bad experiences.

In that case we have a very different perception of the ability to choose.

Microsoft takes a snapshot of the hardware profile to build the licensing data that identifies your license. That's why changing a major component requires a reactivation. Origin, on the other hand, is actively tracking what you install and uninstall application wise, among other things. There's far more to Origin's "service" than just taking a hardware snapshot. If I'm forced to install this ridiculous bull****, I just won't buy any more games.

This is why I became a console gamer, all this DRM **** causes problems in every conceivable way.

True but console games cannot be modified.

I even proposed something a few months ago that I thought it could bring EA their attention:

Don't care about that, don't have anything to be embarrassed of on my PC.

And this is why EA, and other companies, get away with their bull****. Apathy is probably the worst approach to anything.

In answer to this Mircoco*k is being sued at the moment for this feature being on their Windows 7 phones, and they are now creating an update to fix this as they have no legal right to your personal information even if they do put it in the terms of agreement, to get access to the product, because all software on sale in respected countries have to adhere to the privacy laws of that respected country. and most countries dont allow this to happen without a court order for that one specific person. EMI got busted with this back in 2004 with their DRM on their cd's it installed a ghost program on computer and sent private information to them. in answer to that they had to remove the software and re release the respected cd's that it was on.

No we are Bitching because this is just the same old Crap that EA does and they lose more and more sale each time. at the end of the day i can settle for the one time activation to get a game running, but a constant connection, stuff that. i am Yet to install my copy of C&C4 for that very reason. at least Ubisoft listen and have removed that feature from games like Assassins Creed so you can still play offline. so to round that up we are bitching because EA is a Money Garbing sack of Potatoes, and we are sick of it!

i would be bothered as this program has the ability to be spyware.... and in NZ we have this dam law called Skynet, or Section 92a, and as much as i buy almost all my stuff i have do download some of it because nobody will import it for me. ******g narrow minded politicians (god the guy who passed the law had never heard of Netflix or Hulu. i am sure he doesn't know what Itunes is as well. Moron!
