Tablets and Ipads

So, for some unholy reason I've decided to purchase myself a lovely Tablet PC. So who here has a Tablet PC, what is it like and do you like it?

 

I briefly considered getting an Ipad, but to be honest I'll never buy a Apple product so long as I live.

 

At the moment I'm considering a Toshiba Thrive, main points in its favour are it has HDMI/USB ports and SD card support built in, which in my opinion puts it head and shoulders above the ipad 2. Thought about the Samsung Galaxy Tab too...

 

So what do you fine people think?

Waste of money. Get a new PC or a decent laptop instead. But hey that's just me.

I want a tablet, just for the portability. Great for those times when you need some Internet time, but don't want to lug around a goddamn laptop. Just need to get enough cash to get one sometime...

As for me, personally I don't really see a need for such tablet devices, and I see no reason to really own one as of now... yet.

Those tablet fans/preachers keep saying that its very useful to check emails, watch video, and games.

I feel that checking emails via iPhones/ smartphones are good enough, or simply use a computer.

Watch videos... use a bloody computer! (Larger screen + 2.1 sound!)

Games... nothing fancy me other than some good quality graphically decent game.. which mean PC gaming FTW!

Multitasking... nothing beats a PC!

In conclusion, I would use the money to get an upgrade to my uber PC rig or something else.

Sonic is right. Any small device like a smartphone or tablet is absolutely a waste of money. I prefer tablet PCs over original and stylized tablets because of more power, performance and more multitasking. Tablets are good for reading (especially surfing the Internet) but not for typing, gaming and all of other multitasking stuff. Windows 8 is aiming for that and I did not like what Microsoft is heading towards right now. Smartphones or tablets require a separate wireless Internet service payment and they ain't cheap.

Yeah, I tried the whole tablet idea. Got sick of it rather quickly, found it completely pointless when a normal laptop is portable enough. A mouse does the same job that a finger does, even if it is a click away.

 

I have a cheap cellphone that has crap access to the internet, and I barely even use that. But hey, I just don't need it. If it fits what you want, then all the power to ya. ;D

Well you get a tablet for portability not compatibility. If you're not mobile enough, then it's not worth it. If you remember I considered this, but went with an ultra-thin ASUS 13" instead.

Well, I guess at the end of the day, one has a right to one's personal preferences, someone may see tablets useful and important to his daily life, one may see it as utterly pointless and a waste of money, to each his own. Take a pick.

first of all shouldnt this be in the tech discussion? and i agree with Luk3us they are good, i love my Android Xperia X10a best phone ever. but i am also saving for a tablet. i am going to get the Sony S1 Slate. running a custom android platform with PSN connectivity and Sony network connectivity for movies and TV so i think it is a better buy. it has a slanted base. so if in the rear case you are using it to type it has raise so it is more comfortable but in saying that it is easier to hold. the only side effect to that it doest have hdmi out. but with tvs now you just stream to them.

I really do like some of the tablets out there. I've gotten to play with the now defunct HP tablet, the Samsung Galaxy, and the iPad (my mom won it in a contest and we promptly sold it but it was fun to play it actually!). But the price isn't there yet IMO. You could buy a neat little netbook or laptop for the price basically and they're a lot more powerful.

Yea, different folks different strokes. I used to not use my cellphone at all but once I got a smartphone I've sort of grown used to playing videos and stuff from time to time, things like that. I could definitely go without it though.

I love wifi. My work provides it, my school has it, and almost every fastfood place and restaurant around town has it.
