Construction system, Dozers vs Construction Yards?

Recommended Posts

As we have seen in one of the newly released screenshots the EU faction utilize dozers to construct buildings.

Personally I prefer the much more efficient Construction Yard system, the very essence of cnc.

Tiberium Wars succecfully reintroduced the construction yard system into RTS gaming and I think that Bioware should stick with that.

Another thought would be that each faction have it's own construction system kind of like in RA3 and Starcraft but to take it even further.

One faction have dozers, one have construction yards and the third fly in buildings or is 100% mobile using only mobile structures.

Any thoughts? Pros and cons with the different methods to construct buildings?

The obviously worst thing with a dozer system is that you have to manage several construction units instead of focusing on the war. A positive thing though (if you think that is positive) is that there is no limitation on where you can build as long as you can get your dozer there.

Sick of this "Dozer vs. CY" discussions. None is better, they are just different approaches for different gameplay. Workers favor more open gameplay whereas CYs create a more confined building style. Sometimes adding more focus on construction by requiring you to take care of several dozers instead of a single drag-and-drop CY is simply better suited for gameplay. Still, both systems can be tweaked to play out similar in the end. TW showed very well how you have to **** up only a bit and gone are the constraints of the CY system. Well, not the best example perhaps...

Even without seeing those Dozer toys on the screenshots, Gen2 will have Dozers. It's part of the game and frankly Gen1 was one of the games that did the worker system good in itself instead of just having it for copy-SC's-sake. I'd really like to see some build style variation though, but there are tons of possible systems for this. The scenario lends itself nicely to Dozer modifications like power pylons and the like. I don't think it's out of the question to see mechanic of EOTRS-Eggs or a CY style system (e.g. airlifted structures as in MEC2) though.

ConYards are Tiberium/RA universes, dozers are Generals universe. I would find ConYards in Generals 2 to be out of place and stupid.

Why not design the game in such a way the devs give you, the commander, to decide whatever you like?

You like MCV, then you can customize prior to the mission. You like dozers, by all means. You like C&C4's Walkers, by all means. Everyone's happy. Winning.

Same goes for the sidebar/bottombar nonsense. Make it customizable, period.

I doubt that'd work. They'd have to make basically three games in one (counting in similarities, pheraps 1.7 to 2.5 games) and have them all balanced versus each other. I couldn't imagine Crawlers and bases (CY&Dozer) to be balanceable against each other. Edited by Golan

I do think dozers are part of the Generals universe... so it's what I expect. I would like to see some creativity to the implementation of the dozer system for the three factions like they did for RA3.

For instance I would like to see one faction use a SC2 Zerg creep or Protoss pylon build style of 'influence'.
