So who thinks 21/12/2012 really is our last day of existence. Is the apocalypse coming, is it Armageddon?

 

Or will 21/12/2012 come and go and the world will keep spinning?

This b'ak'tun will pass just like the previous 11 did, and in another 144,000 days, the 13th will end and 14th will begin.

 

Saying the world will end due to a change over to a higher number is the same as saying the world should have ended the first of January 2000 because 1999 was the last in the 1000 series. The end of 2999 isn't more (or less) likely to be the end of the world, or 3999, 4999, or year 199999.

 

On the 21st, the Mayan calendar will switch from 12.19.19.17.19 to 13.0.0.0.0 and in the year 4772, it will go from 19.19.19.17.19 to 1.0.0.0.0.0.

 

That being said, if you are looking for an excuse to party, starting a new b'ak'tun is an event that only happens once every 394 years (not as impressive as the start of a new millennium, but an achievement nevertheless).

Those prophecies by the Mayans are probably false since there's no major scientific discoveries leading to this phenomenon unlike what the 2012 movie I had seen. At least the jokes I posted in the status thread on the days counting down are fun.
