C&C Community Summit December 2012

Recommended Posts

We have finally been given the all clear to inform everyone that a top secret C&C Community Summit recently took place. Last week myself (Sonic) and Zee Hypnotist, along with a group of selected guests from other fan sites and projects in our community, assembled in Los Angeles to hang out with developers at the Victory Games studio and get an inside look at the new Command & Conquer. So with the deadline date passed, we can now start revealing some cool new info about the game. But first check out the latest video about the C&C Community Summit event itself.

There are a few photos that we have been given to share with everybody. They show us play testing the new game, plus there are some extra little teasers in there for you. The full gallery can be found here.

We have more C&C Community Summit coverage planned. Hopefully some extra video from Zee Hypnotist. But for now feel free to ask any questions about the new Command & Conquer, while we are bound to an NDA, and there is a lot we can't publicly discuss yet, we will try to answer your questions where possible.

Well at least I get to see almost everybody I knew in the C&C community including some new faces. There are some critical comments in the YouTube video however.

The sidebar I noticed in the monitors is very similar to the one in C&C4.

There are some critical comments in the YouTube video however..

I would disregard a majority of the YouTube comments on this video. The are all grossly misinformed about this game and what the team is trying achieve. Zee and I both saw and played the game so we are not going bull**** you guys. We came away from this trip rather impressed. All the community guys who attended felt the same.

The sidebar I noticed in the monitors is very similar to the one in C&C4.

At this stage its a bottom bar, and its not finished. The whole sidebar versus bottom bar debate started amongst us.

Is there any hint to there being a WorldBuilder for the game?

WorldBuilder was for the SAGE engine games. The new C&C is using the Frostbite 2 engine, a much more complex engine. Modding is big part of our community and the dev team know this but right now its way to early to discuss what modding/mapping tools can be released to the community.

Lastly, just added titles and descriptions to the photos found here http://www.cncnz.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=80#.UNNnn3dv5fk

I do have some faith restored with Zee's statement of it being very similar to the C&C formula, though I take it cum grano salis.

Why do Westwood whiners still have active Youtube accounts? -_-

Yes I can back that up. Its the C&C "way to play" that old time fans like the most. Obviously is not the MCV/ConYard system but a return the Dozer/Worker build system that we had in Generals.

Yes it was fun, but exhausting at the same time. By the end if the final day I was basically drained of all energy. A 13 hour flight from LA back to New Zealand didn't help either. But it was great experience overall.

As for the beta. We did hear some dates as to when then will get started. But I don't think we can give them out. Should be early 2013 though.

1) DId you get any info or play time on the promised so called "Single Player" component. If so what are your thoughts. Is it just a mash up job to appease the burning rage in the community regarding SP?

2) Did you guys get any idea about what can be achieved by paying money in-game. Did you see any pay 2 win stuff?

I understand that you still have an NDA and fully respect it. Just tell no if you can't answer these :).

The glimpses in those pics makes me excited. I love the sidebar and everything but it would feel kind of wrong for the GLA not to use cheap forced labor.

We did see skirmish materials. While I can't go into details of where they are in the realm of a single player campaign, one of the developers mentioned to keep demanding it. The more you demand it, the higher priority it will receive. This game is really supposed to be based around what the fans want, which really plays in to the live service that it will be.

This is something that was not covered at the event, as the free to play aspect barely discussed. Right now, they're focused on building the game itself, which is the most important part.

Interesting to put faces to some names.

Anyway, I trust this means we're start seeing some real information about C&C in the new year. ^_^

Just to add to what Zee said about this question. They made it clear players won't be expected to play money for stuff like unit skins, maps etc.... What content you will be paying for has not been determined yet. As stated its all about building the game first.

Yeah that would have been option if it was a different time of the year. Personally I was lucky to arrange to the week off work and we normally granted time off during December.

We did have most of Sunday to do what we wanted, and same on the Wednesday. Myself and Zee managed to catch up with APOC for breakfast on the Wednesday morning actually, that was cool.

I think it's nice that they are doing these community events again. I was worried that they were going to shut the fans out entirely.

I hope that if they add more factions to C&C F2P they will have different building styles, though I guess it would be hard to balance a mix of the dozer and CY systems. I also hope that C&C F2P gets a fair business model avoiding all kinds of Pay to Win, I'm fine with cosmetic stuff like skins, minor XP boosts and sidegrade units.(like getting a tank that shoots faster than the normal one, but deals less damage).

The fact that devs wanted us to keep demanding it means that EA's BS management is not interested in it at all. From what I understand it means that they would do a rush job about it even if they do it. I still have a bad feeling about this, at least until I see a few games.

Perhaps the SP part would be a payed add-on which is okay if its done right. But i think time will tell everything...Right now it did not brush off the "ANOTHER F2P RTS" impression on me.

One thing that impressed me was the visuals. They look amazing. Were they running on extremely high end rigs?

If I'm not mistaken, one of the test computers had a 4GB video card. For the most part though, yeah, the rigs were pretty top of the line. They always try to pull out the heavy hardware for these events.

I guess so. At least until it gets optimized. I hope that it will not be a dx 11 only title.

One thing that interests me is to know to what degree it the game is humorous in the way the C&C Generals was.
