Throwback Thursday for 2nd April

Its Throwback Thursday time once again. For this week I thought we should go back and look at one of the April Fools jokes that EALA posted. The Mammoth Tank pops up in every Command & Conquer game in one form or another. But this time it really is a "Mammoth" Tank. The cool thing about this joke is the fact that they released the source files for modders to download so they could add it to the game as a real unit. That's how April Fools jokes should be done.

Hehe, 'twas a good one. Love how they recycled BFME2 assets with that one :) I remember actually expecting that to happen in a patch or something without checking the date :D

Actually it would rather be a Oliphant/Mumakil Tank :P

Also EA sadly only released the Art source, so back in the day I took the time to create the xml close to the BFME xml and added the sounds:

Ah btw in the MordorMumakil.xml there is an error at line 411 column 17 where I left over an " from copying stuff. (Doesn't really affect it as it's saved as string anyway but I just wanted to mention it)

Checking the files I also saw that I made an error with the experience level templates, might reupload it at some point.

There shouldn't be any.

And for the experience levels:

there is a Prerequisite attribute which should be the rank above, not sovietantivehiclevehicle or something.

I wanted to write you this as pm as it's mostly unrelated but you cannot receive any...

 

While we are at adding stuff to your file archive, I do have the xml and xsd files for RA3 Uprising.

I'm afraid I cannot commit to major projects and updates of the Archive at the moment. If you have some files that are already compiled and ready to go, I can upload them, but not much else.

We don't have the large downloads archive on CNCNZ.com any more. But I see @Plokite_Wolf has taken care of it already, so problem solved I guess :)

Apoc made them free to download at one point, shortly before he left. I do have a lot more files but they were given exclusively to some projects I've worked on so I don't really know if I would be allowed to share them.

(Like all original xml files of TW and KW campaign maps and stuff which were given to TSR).

Not sure anyone at EA would care. Not like you can re-code the entire game with XML files of buildings, units and maps. EALA is long gone, and BreakAway Games hasn't been active in the non-military scene lately.

:( I was hoping that you found a new source of information , in order to get cnc4 xml's and/or xsd's.

Yeah you told me once of those files (most of them can be read by WED now, I am modding the TW campaign maps using WED to add ObjectiveList to map.xml)
