System Error

Recommended Posts

I have experienced lots of errors when using Win98, Win XP, and now WinXP SP2.

I have encountered both major and minor system errors. I have formatted my HD I bought 6 months ago 5 times because of some major annoying errors. The biggest error I've ever had is super laggy comp, and I fixed that error by formatting my HD, and it took me 2 days to restore my system to normal. And now, 'm having another major error.

So, how many major errors you have encountered? And please tell how you fix it here, it might be usefull oneday.

By far, formatting your harddisk and the reinstall the OS and set up other things are the best medicine to restore your comp, but it's side effects are quite annoying. You will need to reinstall everything and you might will loss some important datas, and you will also have shortened your harddisk lifetime by formatting it. So try to prevent formatting your HD.

My computer will keep crashing for about 5 - 10 restarts then it will magicaly start working. it also has a major overheating problem which I solved by taking off the side panel of the tower and having a dust extractor blast cold dust free ait into it. Thank god Im ordering a new PC tonight!

A computer is only as reliable as the person using it. - C&C King

A quote I once said in a Computer Science debate that I had back in school 5 years back...

I've never experienced any major problems, a few minor ones which are nothing to write home about. But the matter of fact is the first PC I had was breaking down every 5 minutes cos of my incompetance.. Now 2 PC's later this thing never dares crash, cos it knows I'll lay the Smackdown on it!!

It's all down to your own personal experience of computers. The better understanding you have of them and how they work, the more care you can take to avoid such problems, hence my quote.

I rarely have any problems whatsoever, ok its Windows, so it crashes once in a while, but my comp is fine most of the time.

I use a lot of anti spyware and virus scanners, backed up by a good firewall, all this keeps my comp clean, and that keeps it from crashing.

Have never had a major problem with any of my computers. Have never been forced to format or reinsall (although I have done out of choice).

Aside from getting hacked while on 56k (of all things), I've never really been forced to reformat or anything. I do of my own accord, though I did reformat because I got the CoolWebSearch and I was tired of it.

Aside from the random Win98SE crash, I'm pretty good to go. Never really had any trouble with XP except when I removed the Dell Support Center and installed Service Pack 2. I've resolved the issues and my XP machine runs like a dream.

I love using 2 drastically different machines. :P

Hopefully, I'll have the funds to build a new one soon.

no problems with my XP2. when i use defragmenter, my entire C: drive reads off as blue and white, a solid white and blue, not mixed up, which means no fragmented files

Wow, everyone other than me here rarely got major problem

Anyway, I've found out the suspect which creeated my "Icons" problem. I've psoted about this in this thread. It's all because a malfunction occured to my program, EVA (my own made control panel :D ) She goes all crazy that I need to freeze her for a moment, I will need to find the source of the error in EVA's codes. Messing with system files sometimes are dangerous.

I once ever heard this from someone:

"To understand how to fix problems, you must damage your own computer system."

Sounds crazy might be, but I thinks it's true. But, when major errors occured, it's always annoying.

Now 2 PC's later this thing never dares crash, cos it knows I'll lay the Smackdown on it!!

Yeah, that's why I often mess up with Windowns Registry and System Files, to understand how Windows works. But the side effect is pretty dangerous too.

From the sounds of it you play around with your comp's core components to much...

You're just reaping what you sow my friend. ;)

Yeah, but take a look at the light side. If my analysis is correct, by replacing the corrupted shell32.dll, things will go ok again. Which means, if that works, I will know how to fix it if I had that kind of error again in the future.

Generally, replacing the DLL doesn't work. Several DLLs have been corrupted and I know this business fisthand. What do you think happened when I got hacked on 56k? =

I dunno, after doing what Sonic suggested. Something goes wrong at first, but I happen to fix it and then suddenly, the desktop magically restored back to normal.

I think it's just the shell32.dll which is corrupted, the other DLLs looks fine
