Who would you fight for?

Recommended Posts

You nailed the Versailles spelling

but yeah, that is all very interesting... to be honest, I never knew the extent of Hitler's respect for Britain. That is pretty fascinating.

At the beginning of the war the british tanks were better in amour and firepower than the germans the reason that the germans tanks defeated the british and french tank in 1940 was that the allied forces used their tanks for surporting the infantry where as the germans went for the tank rush.

British had the greatest tank enhancements in the world due to the British Invention of the tank in World War 1

The most famous was the hybrid Sherman Firefly a tank killing model equipped with the British 17 pounder gun which was almost as effective as an armour piecing weapon as the daunting German 88mm used by the fearsome Tiger. The germans were terified of the Firefly dues to it ability to take out tiger and panthers tanks with ease.

Also in the battle for normandy the british came up with a modified tank that could float on the sea, destroy beach landmines, remove barbed wire and provide fire surport to the infantry.

Germans in general have always repected the british as equals even though for they used to be deadly alies and it was the same the other way round. Another interesting thing was about Hilter was that he didnt want to be at war with britain in the first place and after dunkirk Hitler was prepare to offer a peace deal with Britain to allow them to keep the British empire.

Let me tell you something about them British floating tanks. They erm.....didnt float.

Not that the Brits cant build tanks (neither could the Americans, at least durring that war) Hitler made a ton of huge mistakes. The first was planning another war.

He was in an alliance with the Soviets before he attacked them. He should have Blitzed Britian before the Americans joined in. Battle of Britian was a failure, half in part because he let the Brits and French remnant escape at Verdun. (or where ever) The Luftwafe could have smashed a Soviet bombing campiagn against his oil, then he could Tanked the Russians in the Spring.

Funny as they work for us Brits and Canadians. The Americans launched them too far out at sea which was the reason 28 out of 30 american DD tanks sank. Heres a link about the success of the tank http://www.members.shaw.ca/junobeach/juno-4-7.htm

Of course we Brits make good tanks as The challenger 2 is the best tank in the world. The Americans in ww2 did make a great tank that was probbly the best tank of ww2 which was the M26 Pershing Tank as it could take on the German Panthers and Tigers with ease.

Nothing in between 1939 and 1990 could of touched our Air Force either... Everything from spitfires to the Tornado, we were nasty sons of a b***hes and nothing could of got in our way....

Nothing could have ever of stopped our bombing planes either. I present to you the most fearful feats of British Aeronautical engineering...

Don't forget the American P-51 Mustang :D

You mean the American P-51 Mustang that America didnt origionaly want and was first built exclusively for Britain. The American P-51 Mustang that wasnt realy that good untill the British once more revolutionised the way wars are fought by removing its crappy engine and giving it the Spitfires Rolls Royce Merlin Engine.

Yeah, thats it.

BTW how does a British floating tank sink just because the waters too deep?

AND

The Chalenger 2 was not a WW2 tank. I know the Americans and Brits kick ass at tank building, but the good Allied tanks werent put into play until near the end of the war, whereas Tigers, Panthers, and T-34's were in from the start.

During D-day the weather was pretty bad and lauching the DD tanks farther out than they were designed ment they were thrown around by bigger waves where as the British and Canadians released them into the water at the right time and thats how they were able to storm the beaches with ease. It was the same with the mulberry harbours as the Americans decided that they didnt need to anchor it down even though they were warned by the creator of it to do so. His warning fell on deaf ears when the largest strom for years hit Normandy the american one was destroyed while the British one was still intacted.

hmm... tough call. i have a deep-rooted russian streak (ie; i wanna run around and yell "come comrade! forwards for the motherland!!!") and german's cos they could do with some help, plus i'd love to use an MP40... but i'd definately fight for Britain. *drools* Enfield m4's... mmm... who needs a machinegun when you've got such good training you can pop off a good three clips a minute? n.n

that and i'd have to sneak forwards ahead of the lines... i would do anything to be in the frontline market garden battles with the paratroopers... o.o though i get the feeling a lone weak red-head femme in the middle of closs-quarters fighting where everyone lost their morals would not be a nice place for me to be :

well, that usually is the case....

untill the British once more revolutionised the way wars are fought

hehe... don't get too stuck up there dude. We Americans have done our fair share as well... wasn't it the Revolutionary War when your mighty infantry got ripped to shreds by handful of our armed farmers? Yeah... your columns of bright red infantry really didn't hold up too well against a few clever guerillas. Then there were major technological innovations (microprocessors anyone?), and of course the nuke. The Brits may have good engines, but you aren't alone when it comes to warfare innovations

Neither did your tough marines didnt hold up to those scary rice farmers in vietnam. Talking about that Revolutionary War wasnt it british and european colonists that deafeted the British Red Coats back then as America didnt exist. Or when we kick the americans in the ass when they tried to invade canada.

Why did you bring up the Independance war anyway? When I said Revolutionise war I ment how the battles were fought like the invention radar, sonar, the jet engine, the tank, battleships, hovercraft, the harrier, Chobham armour and electronic code braking computer.

...we would have beaten the americans in the revolution had we bothered to send more then 3 boatloads... i mean come on. half a dozen "rebels" on the other side of the world? why bother with major conflict? :P *waits to be bombarded with hate spam* before you troll me i got one point: that above quote was told to me by an american. so you can't say i'm dissing the US, cos i'm just repeating words ^^

and of course the nuke.

A defected German Scientist in 1941 actually invented the nuclear bomb, 4 years later you guys dropped it. If he hadn't defected, then it would have been London that would of been wiped out, and the Allies probably would of surrendered :?

It depends on when they dropped the bomb. If it was between 1940 to the end of 1941 then yeah a peace deal would have been made but Im not too sure if we would after it unless they nukeed Russia out of the war.

Whats more scary is they fact that the Germans had the capabilty to attack attack Brittain and the US almost no way to detect it with the two bombers that the german built just at the end of the war. One of which was like the B-29 which was tested by flying it from germany to within 15 miles from New York and back and noone knew untill after the war. The other was a fly wing which the B-2 stealth bomber was based on. It also had the capabilty to carry nukes to New York with the added bonus of not being detectable on radar untill it was nearly unto of you and by then it would be too late. Also did anyone read the article on the bbc website a few weeks ago that claimed the germans managed to create and test a small hybrid nuke that could destroy an area of 500 square yards!
