Religious beliefs

lol... Religion factual... hahahah

I can't even respond to this. luk3us, either grow up and make an actual point or shut up

@ Hans

I just saw that episode last night... man it is funny. And for as cynical as it is, what it says is TRUE! The Mormons actually believe all of that. Oh and yes, the Catholic Bible has some extra books in it, and they are known as the apocrypha... their authenticity/relevance is disputed, so they aren't included in the Protestant Bible.

@ F15

you can't overdo that... contradictions need to be pointed out. We need to be held accountable, and if you're willing to do it, then more power to you

@ acerz

dude, it is really pretty foolish of you to completely rule out the possibility of a deity or the validity of religious teachings just because it creates what you consider "petty" arguments. It disgusts me too, don't get me wrong, and that's why I can't stand organized religion, but there is undeniable truth in Christianity. I hate to use the stupid buzz phrase, but... you should be more "open-minded"

Case-in-point: Do you completely shun science because scientists argue pettily over certain issues, like whether viruses are technically living? No, you accept the truth of science, but roll your eyes at the obnoxious nitpickers. Same goes for religion.

I don't rule out the possiblity. I'm just saying it's highly unlikely. I mean, hell, what were you and Tree argueing about a few posts back? Hrm, one wonders. As for the validity of the teachings? Well, for all we know, some stone-age crack pot could've written them. The Bible teaches some very very good things, don't get me wrong. What gets me is the fact that some people follow these without standing back and taking another look. For example, "If someone slaps you on your left cheek, you should turn and offer him your right."

Hell no.

Yes, violence is very very stupid in some cases, but if someone slapped me, I'd hit him back, and I wouldn't feel guilty because he started it. That's how I am, and nothing, not even God, can change that. But the fact that people in this day and age will FOLLOW THINGS LIKE THE ABOVE like sheep in a flock, is what gets me.

Exactly. I mean, come on, the debate as to whether viruses are alive or not will rage on for decades. I accept science more than religion because science, for me, is easier to understand and follow. Science gave us computers. Did religion? Nope.

As for rolling my eyes at obnoxious nitpickers, well, it all depends what they are on about. If, again, it's about the Virus issue? I don't really care, because I'm not interested in that field of science. I'm more interested in Physics.

But I roll my eyes at you and Tree because you're basically argueing about whether a Christian knows more about the Mormon way of life than an actual Mormon. To be quite honest, again, I don't care, but it's come to a point where it's getting ridiculous. Let Tree believe what he wants to, and leave it at that. It's as simple as saying, "Fine, you live your life the way you want, and I'll live mine." You can't change a way a person thinks about religion. They have to change it themselves. Unless, of course, they are idiots/fundamentalists/both. Launch them into the sun, I say.

I hope that makes some sort of sense to you. I'm tired as hell...working is killing me right now. Especially when you have idiot customers who order about 15 Bacon Cheese Burgers (yeah, I work at Wendy's, shaddup) just before you're due to start closing the store at midnight. Grrr...makes me soo mad.

Ok, think. If you and say Bob are arguing, and Bob get all heated up, and starts insulting you, he's looking for a reaction, but you don't react it just pisses him off even more (Not to mention making it hilariously funny for you.) I think that more what he's talking about

But the fact that people in this day and age will FOLLOW THINGS LIKE THE ABOVE like sheep in a flock, is what gets me.

Ironically, that's just what God calls us in the Bible.

No, we were trying to point out falsehoods in each other's beliefs

right f15... about the "turn the other cheek" thing, it was incredibly revolutionary when you consider the Hebrew culture at the time Jesus was alive. Vengeance and violence were a big thing, but Jesus came with a message of love. Instead of lashing out in anger, he calls us to react with love in everything we do. Doing so will "pour hot coals on the person's head," figuratively speaking, of course.

I'm actually thinking about becoming a bhuddist. I read a book about it (ok it wasn't about it but it talked a lot about it... Rambo First Blood Part II) and it just seems right to me. Because unlike a lot of religions it makes sense.

In my opinion, if you move about in your belief like that, religion isn't for you.

Religion is about faith, not moving about to try and find straight in the face answers or trying to find a religion which best suits you, it kind of defeats the whole idea of religion.

Ugh, I think this topic may be dead.

Hrm...ooh!

Sorta related, but what do you think about the Mythology to ancient religions, such as the Greeks, Romans, Aztecs, etc.

Good stories? Or something to poke fun at?

Waraddict, on the first part your completely right...even though he says he's changing religions, he's not changing OR choosing at all, not feeling around, and no, relgion isn't for anyone, faith is

religion is just doing lots of things (rites, penance, going to church, etc.); Faith is a relationship w/God...doing good stuff and things like that come from obeying Him out of faith

I don't see the difference between those religion and beliefs to those of todays'.. We laugh at those old beliefs.. What makes current ones any different?

I am a stimulust.

It is a religion where you die, and you choose a new lifestyle...

I still believe that God does exist, and so does the devil, and so does the wiccan god and every one else, but I just don't belong to them...

I belong to my master... But he isn't like a god, because I don't ask him for help... he just helps me when I am dead, to format my new life... and then In my life, I am in control.

I call this phase the Unknown Phase, cause I haven't chosen this life, because you go through many lives, and for each year, you fill a life pond, then, when it fills, you go through a life you don't choose, to empty the pond, and start over...

For me, as soon as I die, you all cease to exist, but for you, when I die, nothing happens, I just die...

(also, I don't press my religion on ANYONE... me and the few stimulusts out there believe that our religion is one for ourselves... even if I had a stimulust friend we wouldn't push it on each other
