Dont say it to a chinese person anyway, the pronounciation of those words matter just a much, saying a word a bit off will have a entirely different meaning.

 

For example

Pao= cannon

Pao= run

 

They look the same, but are said differently, and are written differently

If you are trying to turn this into an american bashing thread it isn't gonna work, it stops here, or I lock it.

 

They don't go that extreme anyway. I like unusual names, would rather call my children something unique or less common than call them David, or something... OK that's my name, but it's too common that's why work is so funny, we have 5 different Davids. So you can imagine what conversations are like there. An example of a conversation we have:

 

Dave 1: Hey dave

Dave 2-5: alright dave?

Dave:1: I'm alright dave, and you dave?

Dave 2: good dave

Dave 3 & 4: very good dave

Dave 5: not too bad dave

Oh, and by the way, I have never heard of any of those names listed. I have lived in nearly every region in the US, and save some minority groups, nearly every name is pretty standard. So..... that was cute and all, but just not rooted in reality.
