yeah your rig is only as good as your weakest part, really quad-cores are for video-editing and stuff like that, anything heavy duty

Exactly. Someone with sense. Quads aren't usable for anything outside of a render farm. More cores does not mean more power. Get that into your heads people.

No technically it doesn't. I have a 3.0 GHz dual core CPU, it doesn't mean I have a 6.0 GHz CPU. Just a 3.0 GHz CPU with two independent cores. The whole dual/quad core stuff is all marketing **** anyway. Don't get sucked it by it.

That's the thing I love about my current dual core PC, I've had it 2 years now and it's still nowhere being out-dated. Ok, I've done a couple of Graphics card upgrades since I've got it... But it's so much easier on the pocket now than it was in the single core days. If technology was able to keep threading a single core to ever more faster speeds, I'd have to buy another PC this year! Proof really that the new i7 is a waste of money unless your PC is old, and you're buying a rig anyway.

 

I do need a new mobo actually... For some retarded reason my current one has a 2GB DDR2 Limit on it... and considering I only have 2 sticks of DDR2-533 RAM, the clock speed on it sucks with only 4200MB/S peak transfer. With a new board I'd jump at the chance to get 4GB worth of DDR3-1600 RAM inside. With a solid 200MHz Clock and a 12800 MB/s peak transfer.
