Legitimate reason for bringing this topic back up to date. I got a copy of Earth 2160 today and have been playing the alien side within. First thing I can say is that this side is perhaps one of the most innovative factions in an RTS to date. While the Zerg in Starcraft were good, there's something about this side that works, and works damn well.

Firstly, this faction doesn't build bases at all. They rely heavily on resources and that's it! There are 2 core units (1 for air attack one for ground). This is all you get, from there you should clone these units over and over to expand the foundation of the force. Once cloned, both units need to recharge their energies using resources before they can clone or transform again.

From there you can either mutate their genetic pattern into a nest of 2 types which will defend against air attacks or ground attacks. The other option is to turn the basic unit into a grunt attack unit. once the unit goes into a cocoon and emerges as a new unit, more options are available and you can keep choosing different options upgrading these units as you go. The better the unit, the longer the resource charge time, and the longer it takes to transform in its cocoon. But once you get upto huge queens and giant battlecruisers, they become almost impossible to destroy. A very strange yet powerful faction that shouldn't be underestimated!!

Now this in my opinion is how EA might take the Scrin. They have mentioned that they will do some amazing stuff and be very dependant on Tiberium. So it makes ya think!

The structure tech tree is likely to very small. In fact it's possible that The Scrin may only have a construction hive for which to build the basic elements, and from there the units use Tiberium to build things like base defenses, and more wierd and wonderful things. It'd be keeping the dozer people happy, but the rules of standard C&C 3 base building deployment will apply.

For those able to remember this far back. Conquest Earth had a similar concept for aliens. Whereby the only way to build was to have a core amount of grunts that had to merge together to create buildings, tanks, and other weaponry. There were no contruction yards or nothing, and the only way to get anywhere was to keep churning out grunts to build the weird and wonderful things they had. While feeding off the resources that were close to them...

Discuss people.

As far as I am concerned. The scrin are an alien race who are somehow rapped around tiberium in some way. Thier goal is to either conquer earth or save it.

By saving earth: I mean they accidently dropped the rock onto earth but were in close pursuit to destroying it before accidently either underestimating earth's gravity or they colided with a satellite. That is how they crashed on earth and thats why they had the TACITUS with them. To destroy or contain Tiberium. They died in the crash and KANE/ NOD found them. That runs along the TS/ Renegade storyline. And now they are back, discovering that we have misused thier Tech and are pissed and hope to WIPE us off the Earth.

But as for the side themselves, they could:

*Merge with Tiberium

*Grow Tiberium Crystals, Viens

*Mutate Earth life into mutant Tiberium/Scrin Life

*Flying Saucers

*Tiberium Type Plasma (Tiberium Glassing Ablility with a perminent effect)

*Tiberium is less important or more valuable (in money) to them.

*Tiberium Cannons, Crystal Shards, Tiberium Plasma Rounds, Controlled Tiberium Electricity, Heat Ray (Just like War of the Worlds)

*Surperior Tech (shields, light, laser, possiby some Covenant, Forerunner-like Tech)

* And no Big Heads with Big Eyes, thats too common.

all i know is

-i would love to see CnC take as fresh an approach as possible...

-it would be awesome if they didnt mimic any previously used ideas such as zerg...

-the scrin dont neccessarily have to be technologically advanced compared to us...maybe the crashed ships were from when their planet exploded...

-the scrin could be a life form from tiberium itself, i.e. i forgot the name of this movie but an alien chemical based on Nitrogen was brought to earth via a meteor, and organisms started to evolve from it RAPIDLY. they made a cartoon after the movie and in the cartoon, eventually, an intelligent humanoid life-form evolved.

-the scrin could be on their way to re-evolving in a tiberium-altered earth, and as for no evidence of life on the crashed ship..maybe they died on the trip or melded to the ship, after all tiberium does that in CnC3....

I think NOD found the bodies, disected them, and used their DNA to start-up its uber-soldat (super soldier) projects. It could explain how they came up with rapid results in thier divination project on Renegade and how they were able to produce cyborgs in TS. The only thing the tacitus does is to GIVE INSTRUCTIONS just like a cook book. The Tiberium and the Scrin DNA are the ingredients.

So, TheRoadToDawn, Nod is German now?

redasblood, those are some pretty lame ideas.... not gonna lie :?

-i would love to see CnC take as fresh an approach as possible...
No. Generals was a "fresh approach". I pray that C&C3 WILL be "more of the same".

-it would be awesome if they didnt mimic any previously used ideas such as zerg...
It would be hard to avoid those similarities. Frankly, doing everything to AVOID copying something else is almost worse than copying. They should do what works, regardless of any perceived similarities to zerg or whatever.

-the scrin dont neccessarily have to be technologically advanced compared to us...
WRONG!

Frankly it beats your idea. The Scrin must be technologically advanced. Intergalactic travel is no trivial matter dude.....

no its not...but seemingly humans are close to it in the story...even so...maybe the scrin stumbled upon technology on their planet that was possibly contained in the tacitus..and built things out of it...perhaps developed a genetically perfected organism capable of leeching resources easily...?

just food for thought...dont hate on my imagination lol

by the way i may have said it wrong..but i didnt mean a totally fresh approach..i meant a fresh approach to the 3rd side...trying to either combine effective trends with new ones or just come up with awesome new ones

Being a fan of C&C for all these years, and knowing a lot about all the universes: I like to create theories, not just out of imagination, but also by answering the small "common sense" questions that might come with all that we have seen in the Command and Conquer Universes. They might sound idiotic, but they are my theories and i dont want them to sound as if they were pulled from a cartoon, where things happen despite real-life circumstance, like Wile E. Coyote falling off a cliff and surviving on the old Road Runner cartoons.

You should see my theory of Kane existing in both the RA and TS universes. You might find it interesting:

Gotcha on the "new direction" comment, but you're dead wrong on the Scrin thing. They're an alien civilization that is going to be invading earth, according to the story. I don't know how you can explain that without technological superiority, but I see no way around it. These guys are coming across solar systems with enough military strength to rival that of an entire planet. Our crowning achievments so far, the Apollo moon missions and the Mars rovers, don't look very battle ready, don't you think?

True, but like i said, they might be looking for their comrade-in-arms, and when they find that they were used for Technological gain and the tiberium spread all over the planet. They might just get angry and decide to change thier rescue op into a military op.

This new operation will give them revenge and a new planet that can support their kind.

Aliens must have politics too, right?!?

There is also new information out saying that the 3rd side in C&C3 will have thier own campaign! Thats cool! I wonder if EA will have cutscenes for it too.

Yes well, what if barney stepped off that ship and started singing? Barney=epitome of all that is evil.

I think the Scrin will eat tiberium or something like that. As in, all of them can use tiberium to heal and when they walk over any form of tiberium, they'll hoover up one empty swatch. That'd be fun.

Does anyone think they may have control of thiberium flora and fauna, eg. tiberium fiends and visceroids? (Nasty lil' blobs)

Or what if their superweapon was to create spore trees? That would own. Drop a spore tree next to your oponent's barracks. Owned.
