Command & Conquer 3 Designer Diary at IGN

Recommended Posts

This has been posted up at IGN.com. It outlines the various 'zones' and gives a bit more information on Tiberium itself. There still seems to be a lack of Tiberium mutation. I'd like to see some of those alien plants from Tiberian Sun/Firestorm make a return, especially in those nasty red zones. Apart from that, it all looks good.

Edit: Just read over it again. Mmmh... so is Tiberium now officially a mineral, not a plant? :?

well...the red zones aren't tiberium-hectic enough...they need more life..tiberium life...

and no...tiberium is a plant that has a mineral bi-product...not just a mineral...they should really turn those huge tiberium crystals in the screenshots into some outrageously overgrown tiberium plant...something creative...

these pics are ok...i hope the creativity increases alot as the developments goes on...and the FS tiberium is integrated into the new concept of tiberium...

IF NOT....uh ohh

EDIT: i like the beams of sunlight peaking

... The game is still in development, and I will guess they want to finish the fractions before they mess with Tiberian life.

*bowing head to EA*

well I rest my case against them for now. NICE job so far in those read zones. And I love how the description of life in the yellow zones is worded. So awesome. Here's to continued good work

Yeah got the heads up from APOC this afternoon

That's nice. I'm not getting anything from Aaron these days, just BfME2 stuff. :?

Those screenies look cool.

Shame the atmosphere isn't as doom and gloom as good old TS... Meh. :)

Send him an e-mail and tell him your not getting his community updates.

I disagree, the atmosphere and environment looks awesome in this screen shot.

I like it. Its still dark and gloomy, but its not all the chaos that TS was (from an enviromental standpoint)

Its different, to be sure, but from the progress we've seen already, its looking good.

Remember the TS days with all the concept work for exotic Tiberian flora and fauna? All those crazy mutated plants and animals? The look then was really, uniquely alien. This innocuous, barren green crystal landscape nonsense is making me uneasy, to be honest. I think it looks terrible so far :?

Im hoping that EA has only showed us the 'border' regions. But if they keep progressing, one can hope.

Of course, in 3 weeks I'll prob be singing a different tune, unless EA really lets loose in Germany.

Perhaps. Its just the sun thats peaking through that doesn't do it for me.

I wonder if they're have proper day night cycles? That would be a nice change. ;)

I can't believe what I'm seeing here. How can you people call yourself a C&C fan when you all you do it bitch about it. I see very little praise posted about C&C3 here and on other forums.

I'm not letting you anti-EA hating bitches spoil my fun. C&C3 looks fantastic and I'm digging everything I've seen so far.

Hey I'm liking it so far. At least, after these new images were released.

I think TS was the only C&C with day/night cycles. And it was pretty cool too.

Man i was just thinking, you know how light dances when you're underwater, what if we could see the sun rays doing that durring turbulent weather? That would be awesome.

And im wondering, some of these images seem to be rather like those found with either hte battle cam from EAW or the ground cam (zoom in enough)

Yeah i agree with sonic, quit complaining. we havent seen the finnished product so we really have no idea what it will be like. just because we havent seen things like tiberium lifeforms doesnt meen there arnt any. They release screenshots of various parts of the game in stages and when they want to like Tiberium and Nod for example.

The only thing i have been unsure about with the screenshots we have seen is the massing of mammoth and zonetroopers which makes me question the balanceof these units

Surely one is allowed one's own opinion? If you don't like what somebody posts, do what I do and ignore it.

sure i have no problem with people expressing their opinions but much of the community has been judging and unfinnished game on a few screenshots of things they have decided to show us. just because we havent seen it in a screenshot sofar doesnt mean they dont intend to show it. I mean we havent seen Nod yet have we

Yes I totally agree, but with the way some poeple post about C&C3 its as if they want EA to fail and fall flat on their ass so they can bitch some more about what is wrong with the game.

Let's be a little more dramatic here sonic...

Clearly, all I've done is bitch about it. Yes, that's clearly all I've been doing.

I'm not letting you anti-EA hating bitches spoil my fun.

Oh that's nice. I've made it perfectly clear that I in no way hate EA. I didn't even bring them up! I'm usually one of the first to defend them against the anti-EA folks! I just really dislike the dumbed down, commercialized look of what we're seeing so far. Calm down sonic

Well good for you. Innocuous landscapes of radiation crystals (ooohhh!) and 15 foot, helmetless anime "zone troopers" looks pretty dumbed-down and lame to me when I look at the classic C&C mutated landscapes and eery alien dominance... all pulled off brilliantly. This may yet work, but so far I really don't like it. Sorry about "spoiling your fun," but I think I'm allowed to have a contrary opinion. It seems pretty fair to me.

There's too much living in the past. Sure we all want C&C 3 to be true to the C&C Canon. But I know one thing. Progression has to be made somewhere. You can't just stick in a 10 year old concept into a SAGE engine and call it a new game.

Let me be honest here. Westwood were taking it in this direction anyway. There are still many original Westood employees at EALA as well as Louis Castle. Sure the big names have gone, but alot of this game has ridden on the original C&C 3 concept, so it's time for people to get over it already.

APOC will be reading this at some point soon. All I can say to him and to EA is carry on guys! I'm more for change with logical reasoning behind it than having a community that walks with the so called living dead!

This franchise belongs to EA. If they kill the canon, fine, I can then ask questions. But until the game is installed, and you've played all 3 campaigns through, only then should any sort of judgement be passed!

Here's my bitch list...

Its TiberIAN Wars.

Tiberium is not radioactive. :(

Everything else is good. :)

King, you're being very "un-specific" there. I don't see how the SAGE engine factors into the concept work and overall atmosphere of the game. Of course there's a need for progression, but what I see is regression from imaginative brilliance to dumbed-down, commercial fluff.

What I'm talking about is, primarily, the concept of Tiberium. It had a much deeper meaning and explanation before... it was shrouded in mystery, was a powerful biological force, and couldn't be explained with a simple story of how it transmutes matter into more Tiberium. It was far deeper than that. It used to take form in spores, bizarre alien plants, creatures, and just about every other biological form and conveyance imaginable. It was apparently changing everything on earth into something alien, rooted in Tiberium, but completely different. Tiberium was the catalyst for a much larger ecological shift. There was an entire alien ecosystem emerging, not just a bunch of radiactive crystal. Sure, that's easier to understand and explain, but it sucks the depth out of the storyline. Do you see what I mean? Just read that story I wrote, "The Silo," and you'll see what I envision as the ultimate aim of Tibierum mutation. It's not just a planet changed into a hunk of crystal. It's far deeper, and I just don't see any of that vision in this early concept work.

Get it? I don't see why you people get so damn defensive about what is A) not your work, and B) what we should ALL be concerned about as fans of the series!

Sheesh.

first, Bware you're being more defensive than you are accusing everyone else as being..

second, even thought some things that have been revealed about the game are ugly looking and disappointing...the FACT IS that it is still in early development...the environment and wildlife isn't well thought out and coordinated yet...

lets give them more time...

also, lets let them know what change should be in order
