Halo Wars - The New Halo RTS

Halo Wars has been announced. The latest RTS game based on the Halo universe. Its not being made by Bungie though, the team responsible is Ensemble Studios, creators of the Age of Empires games. Halo Wars will be exclusively for the Xbox 360.

 

 

Remember, Ensemble Studios and Bungie are both owned by Microsoft. So I guess this is why Microsoft killed off the Halogen mod for Generals. But the question is how could a mod for a PC game affect the sales of an Xbox 360 game?

 

Anyway the official site is at http://www.halowars.com, with it's forums here http://forums.halowars.com. On the site there are some wallpapers and a video trailer to download. Plus FAQ page about the game.

 

Looks good to me but I don't like RTS games on consoles.

Nah the thing i dont like is that its not bungie making it. Sure the other company has experience with age of empires but i disliked every age of empires game. Im not as worried that its comming out only for the xbox360 because i will get one anyway when fifa07 comes out

I found an interview between a halo fan and the lead producer of Halogen on halo.bungie.org. Im guessing it has to do with his personal opinion about his projects cancellation due to Halo Wars.

Well I know that MICROSOFT will, in fact, make money on it. It's what they do. I very much agree that they made a scummy move in depth-charging Halogen, but they were acting in their best interests, and it was all legal. Halogen was overstepping its bounds in using their intellectual property, and while I admire the work they did on it, you just can't expect Microsoft to sit back and allow it. It sucks, and we can bitch about how Micro$oft, Microshaft, Microscum, Microlozerslol!!1, are unfair, but we really should learn to deal with it. It's an unfortunate reality, and if you can't come to grips with it, then what does that say about you?

End rant. Sorry, but it had to be said.

Yeah... but you know that they probably have a hundred full time market analysts on this. If there's a viable market and they ignore it, you know that it must be for a VERY good reason.

unless the disc is made of gold and is only worthy of the 360 then i might let it slip but i don;t think it is.

Although upon them doing this they are making a bold statement, it is cheaper to develop on the 360 than PC

Yeah i dont see it being a major downside that it is on console. There have been some RTS console conversions in the past that have worked quite well. It wont be long until some company gets it right. The mechwarrior series on the other hand was murdered by the xbox versions
