IGN - Kane's Wrath First Look

Recommended Posts

IGN have posted a new first look article about Kane's Wrath. This article is very informative packed with plenty of details about the expansion for Command & Conquer 3. Here is a sample......

The campaign in Kane's Wrath spans 20 years in the Command & Conquer universe. It will begin at the end of Tiberian Sun and attempt to answer many of the questions still hanging in the air from the end of that second game in the Tiberium universe. If you're familiar, you'll probably remember Nod was in disarray and splintered into several factions, the fate of CABAL was unknown, and Kane himself had seemingly disappeared. We pick up right after the events of those games where Nod has been factionalized and marginalized on the global stage. You'll play the role of Kane's right hand man in the re-forging of Nod into the powerhouse that eventually rises up to nearly annihilate GDI at the beginning of the Third Tiberium War. "The first chapter in Kane's Wrath should provide a lot of connective tissue between the events of Tiberian Sun and C&C 3 that fans have been clamoring for ever since we announced C&C 3 and started talking about the story." Says Mike Verdu. "There's a lot of nostalgia value there. We'll have Kane in his old costume and a bunch of the stuff on the set for the FMV in that part of the game dates back to that era so fans will get to watch Kane transform through the three chapters of the story."

In the second chapter, the campaign will focus on the time of Command & Conquer 3 and the Third Tiberium War when Kane re-emerges to cast his bloody shadow over Earth yet again. EA is going to answer some of the questions that were left unanswered during the events of C&C 3 including what was going on with Killian. Some of the other mysterious events in that were hinted at but not resolved in C&C 3 will compliment new parts of the story of the Third Tiberium war.

This article also includes 4 new screen shots featuring the the new Nod Reckoner (armoured personnel carrier), The Awakened, GDI's Shatterer (the mobile sonic emitter) and Slingshot Hover Tank, check them out below.

Finally Nod gets a decent artillery unit, not that the Beam cannon isn't great, its just not an artillery unit.

And lol, at the new flying APC. :P

Seems they are giving all the unique game play elements of GDI to Nod such as zone trooper type infantry with the cyborgs and Artillery with spotters.

As for the new "stars" for the KW expansion, Apoc, you know you want to cast Jessica Alba as some sexy Nod solider right?:P

Those GDI ufo tanks looks pretty cool.

What?

Anyways I like the sound of the little helicopter that can put units into it. Reminds me of a Battle Chinook. Man those were great at rushing if you micro'd them correctly.

Too bad none of cast from C&C3 except Joe will star in KW. :(

But how awesome wouldn't it be to have Frank Zagarino come back to star Slavik? :P

(As if that were ever going to happen...)

Seems like GDI learned some alien designs or something :D

All these ideas of the expansion whet my appetite.

If they release it the way the plan it, it will be memorable and brilliant!

Well, I guess we can assume he was executed by Kane. It would definitely by nice to see this happen at the start of the KW campaign, but I'm not overly bothered.

So far the expansion is looking pretty awesome. I'm wondering how many new units/upgrades there will be, especially since they've said they're doing these sub factions as opposed to an entirely new one.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. :)

Great pic... shows that GDI have ventured into a parallel dimension and retro-fitted a star wars snow speeder with a sonic weapon!

Personally I don't like the marriage of a hover tank with the sonic weapon. The size of the sonic weapon turrent makes it appear to be a *heavy* weapon which would require a more 'mcv sized' or even juggernaught type vehicle to cart it around rather than a hover tank which would have obvious weight restrictions! Come to think of it - a new mech would surely have pleased fans more than a hover tank.

The mobile sonic turrent was always going to happen, it just seems unrealistic to marry it to a hover tank. But what's the point of hover units anyway? There's no sea to traverse! This was an important part of the hover mrls - a gdi sneak attack into the presumable undefended rear of the enemy base like the underground nod units...

They should have just made the orca transport into a legitimate flying bunker. So that the GDI flying units still have to re-arm as before, but the infantry inside the flying bunker have infinite ammo as before. It's something new - without breaking the existing mechanics.

I'm liking the info released, but I share the 'mirrored unit' concerns in the name of balance.

apcs... nod troopers with lasers... nod artillery... face it luk3us you want to be GDI deep down.

gben: Well, who knows, maybe its made out of fiberglass, or aluminium, or carbonfiber :P

I also dont like the design for the mse, and fear as well Nod and GDI to be too balanced- It depends now what other units will be added (I like some very much of those already described).

But: Many wanted hover vehicles back. Now theyre here, along with cyborgs, so theres only mechs left.

Bring it!

We already have the juggernaut.

But I agree that a titan would kick arse!

Why? Some mechs are around and they're good enough, Petro said as WW they were even gonna start cutting back on the mechs. They'd still have a few more but not as many as people are complaining for.

Mechs are kind of wack technoligy, becouse of imbalance.

It seems odd that C&C wanted an artillery mech. That seems even more unrealistic.

Im glad they kept at least one mech, but im dissapointed that it wasn't the Titan.

For me it was the symbol of Tiberian sun, and the Tiberian Wars in main.

It's basicly the reson I started playing TS so much.

A futuristic RTS with mechs and Ion storms and gloomy terrain.

It all fitted so good together.

If they bring annother mech back, It should defenatly be the Titan.

That's a problem I have with C&C3. TS was so futuristic, almost apocalyptic with the hazy cutscenes and terrain. Tiberium Wars doesn't have the drama of the world about to collapse. Even with the alien invasion I still don't feel it. :?

The whole game just ain't gloomy enough.

also, TS was filled with mutant and civillians struggling to survive, between half destroyd towns and large mutated areas.

I think the problem with C&C3 is that it's so FLAT. everything is flat!

Tiberian Sun below is much more gloomy and hostile terrained.

The tactics does not only lie in the force you command, But also the battlefield.

C&C3 is filled with way too many large open battlefields.

And that CAN make a game boring in the end.

Sorry for making such a big deal out of it, I know some of you are unhappy with those big pics.
