Sonic 296 Posted September 17, 2007 The image below is some concept art of what the Scrin could have looked like in Westwood's version of C&C 3. As you can see it is completely different to we have all seen in EALA's C&C 3. So where did this image come from? Well it didn't come from EALA that's for sure. If you look in the right places you will found out the source of this image. The important thing is we all get to see it. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted September 17, 2007 Looks very protoss like with the blades on the arms... I actually like the Scrin that EALA made, this one seems more generic alien, whilst EALA's was less generic Alien. Share this post Link to post
TheRoadToDawn 0 Posted September 17, 2007 Agreed. Although the concept of this mech/alien reminds me of Cabal's Core Defender, so it must support the theory that Cabal (in TS:FS) indeed did use a combination of Nods laser tech, Gdi's mech tech, and the before modified WestWood Studio's version Scrin tech to build the awesome, never saw coming mech (well at least I didnt!). lol Share this post Link to post

As you can see it is completely different to we have all seen in EALA's C&C 3. Different... sure. Better... not so sure. To be fair, we don't know how far in the developement stage that concept is, and I haven't compared it to the early EA concepts to see the great divergence. Still a boring bipeal alien, albeit with an interesting selection of mask. (that was an interesting thread [and it's sublinks] for the source of this picture. just like reading the conspiracy theories of C&C & RA timelines. ie. the background of Tesla was new to me) -gben Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted September 17, 2007 i kind of liked it a bit. although for sure it was too similar to protoss....im really curious as to what it would have been like if westwood did it where did the pic come from? Share this post Link to post
hagren 0 Posted September 17, 2007 Look in the "Original CnC3" thread Sonic you thief! I also like EAs Scrin much better, and im very sad that Blizzard fanboys are so stubborn. This is what Adam said about them, not telling wheter the design was subject to change: "They were very angular, menacing, and closer to the key item they created and manipulated for survival (hint, hint)" Share this post Link to post
CCHyper 3 Posted September 17, 2007 Am i missing something? Whats going down at Blizzard then? And about Adams comment, it seems pretty obvious that they where going to look like Tiberium and maybe able to camouflage with it too. Share this post Link to post
Redmond Boyle 0 Posted September 17, 2007 Those look pretty Melee-ish units. Do those thingys have heads? Share this post Link to post
hagren 0 Posted September 17, 2007 Am i missing something? Whats going down at Blizzard then? And about Adams comment, it seems pretty obvious that they where going to look like Tiberium and maybe able to camouflage with it too. But on this pic they dont: They look like your standard X-files aliens with armor on them. Blizzard? Myaxe: I guess the aliens themselves are pretty weak, thats why they "dress" up in such ridicolously huge armor. The head is there were the heads should be, look closer Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted September 17, 2007 Most of these unit concepts have been taken to Petroglyph and worked on as a foundation. Universe at War's concept designers used alot of the original unused concepts as inspiration for designing the game. To create Tiberian Sun's Spiritual Successor. This particular unit is the foundation for The Novus Blade trooper as the body design and the Masari Disciple for the body armour. I know this isn't a UaW Forum, but I just thought I'd point that out. Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted September 17, 2007 yea cool Saracen. besides the concept art looking too similar to protoss, i really liked how they made the head. its almost like it is hiding and in place there is a 'dummy' head to fool the enemy. Share this post Link to post

Btw, i like UaW unit designs much much better than this Scrin sketch Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted September 17, 2007 Those were more SageKing's words than mine, and he said at the time he was mirroring the General thoughts around the offices. Share this post Link to post

And about Adams comment, it seems pretty obvious that they where going to look like Tiberium and maybe able to camouflage with it too. Ah... a *natural* stealth ability. nice. If they could add a 'suck tiberium out a harvester' ability it'd be a nasty suprise hiding in the resource patch! If only there was a better continuity explanation for the change to crystal from the organic sludge. -gben Share this post Link to post
hagren 0 Posted September 20, 2007 hm? The crystals are the very one thing which stayed from WWs tib. Or am i not getting something? Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted September 20, 2007 If you guys want to see more of the Westwood C&C 3/Continuum Concepts check out this gallery at CNC Saga: http://www.cncsaga.com/continuum/galerie-preproduction.html. What ever the plans for CABAL were they sure were strange. You will also notice some of the images are labelled as being for C&C Generals - 2003, stuff that never made it I guess. hagren 0 Posted September 20, 2007 I always thought these Cabal sketches to be great! Mechs own Aliens... Nod buildings are cool as well (Happy they "kept" the power plant), but all the other stuff is a bit extreme. Share this post Link to post
