Kane's Wrath GDI Subfactions Confirmed

Recommended Posts

C&C Files have posted the details about the GDI subfactions that will be in Kane's Wrath. This information was found the the latest issue of Games for Windows magazine. They sound great and its a welcome return of the Titan and Wolverine from the Tiberian Sun Era.

Armed Forces

Pick your battles carefully

Carefully doling out intel, EA's ministers of information only intended to reveal the subfactions for the GDI and Brotherhood of Nod-tough we managed to smuggle out the names (or codenames) for the Scrin subfaction, too. So while the GDI and Nod information here is official. Consider anything regarding the Scrin as pure conjecture. When asked for confirmation, Vessella would only answer with "Hmm...interesting theory".

GDI

Subfaction: Steel Talons

Specialty: Armoured Assault

Background: Favouring Steamroller tactics, the Steel Talons rely on brute force and relatively conventional forces. Coming from the Tiberium Sun era, they don't have access to sonic technology. That doesn't stop Commander Michael "Mack" McNeil from getting some solid troops. Upgraded Juggernauts can garrison infantry, allowing for better defense; old favourites such as the Titan and Wolverine are back exclusively for the Talons; vehicles roll out with veterancy. The only downside is that they are less effective with infantry and air units.

Subfaction: ZOCOM (aka Zone Operations Command)

Specialty: Area-of-effect attacks; suppression

Background: ZOCOM are the sci-fi trooper equipped for the red Zones. Based off the C&C3 era and beyond, their advanced sonic technology is a great mob-attack deterrent. Shatterer tanks and ORCAs come armed with more powerful sonic attacks. Zone Troopers upgrade to Zone raiders with and area-of-effect sonic cannon and anti-air defenses, but they are less effective against conventional vehicles.

I guess its safe the assume that one of the subfactions for Nod will feature some units from Tiberian Sun returning as well.

As i said in the PM to Sonic (Not exact words):

Btw, there will be info about Nods subfactions as well, later this evening. Now i just need to know which timezone the site is in...

Well I guess the last Nod faction must be the steath faction. :) Or something like it.

Update! (With the second only being speculations, except the names- And i do hope all these infos (Including GDIs) are just excerpts)):

Subfaction: Black Hand

Specialty: Aggressive Infantry

Background: Kane’s elite guard forgoes stealth in favor of heavily armed –and aggressive--infantry. The result: more powerful Black Hand units, upgraded confessors, and an upgraded Avatar Warmech that starts with flame throwing ability.

Subfaction: The Marked of Kane

Specialty: Stealth Assault

Background: Kane’s “Chosen,” modified through technology and Tiberium to the point that they are barely human. Tiberium troopers (who can damage and slow down targets) replace Black Hand units. They’re not tough, but they rely on stealth and finesse to win the fight.

The Scrin

Subfaction: “Stalker-17”

Specialty: Troop Suppression

Background: Possibly the remnants of the first invasion force, fighting off whomever they can and adapting their tactics to compete on Earth. New units like the Ravager show an emphasis on softening ground troops with hit-and-run strategies.

Subfaction: “Reaver-43”

Specialty: Ground Pounding

Background: This subfaction seems to represent “big gun” support troops sent from the Scrin home world, as evidenced by the new Mechapede, and insectiod biomech unit that starts with only a head (though you can order up as many as eight segments during battle). Spot an incoming air force? Create an AA segment.

Yeah and as ive wished for (and anticiapted), the subfactions have their canonical background, which makes the expansion even more satisfying (From Gamespot) :

GDI Subfactions

Steel Talons

The end of the Second Tiberium War saw the Brotherhood of Nod seemingly implode. With victory at hand, the GDI began to turn to peacetime tasks, the most pressing of which was battling the Tiberium contamination on the planet.

The Steel Talons is the name given to an experimental technology battalion formed in the wake of the Second Tiberium War. Founded by General Joshua "Mitch" Mitchell, the Steel Talons specialize in unconventional operations. The unit is designated an experimental one because it's something of a test bed for the latest and greatest military technologies. It is also designated as such because of Mitchell's demand that some of the peace dividend realized with the end of the war be directed toward maintaining the GDI's technological edge. After all, Mitchell argued, as long as Tiberium contamination remained on the planet, large amounts of the population would remain dispirited and provide ready recruits for any successor to Nod.

Mitchell is something of a maverick and a risk taker in that he places a lot of faith in technology, even unproven technology. At the same time, he also believes in the superiority of advanced firepower. If the Steel Talons find themselves in a situation, Mitchell wants to make sure they can blast their way out of it. The Steel Talons proved themselves in the small skirmishes that followed the Second Tiberium War.

ZOCOM is composed of battle-hardened veterans.

ZOCOM

With the Second Tiberium War over, the GDI tasked the military's Zone Operations Command, or ZOCOM, with the goal of reducing and eliminating the Tiberium contamination of the planet. ZOCOM's mission was to "invade" areas of high Tiberium infestation and commence reclamation operations. In addition, ZOCOM had to defend such operations against terrorist and mutant attacks.

Due to the nature of the assignment and the dangers of being exposed to Tiberium for prolonged periods of time, ZOCOM is filled with some of the most capable, battle-hardened veterans in the GDI. Command of ZOCOM was given to C. Elena Renteria, one of the first women to rise to the rank of general in the GDI. Though Mexican by birth, she grew up in the Tiberium wastes of Africa, following her scientist parents around.

ZOCOM forces are clad in Tiberium-resistant battle armor that makes them very difficult to take down in battle. They also use experimental sonic weaponry that packs a powerful punch, which makes ZOCOM an incredibly durable and rugged force on the battlefield.

I hope its not written in past tense being only an intel entry and thats all we get:(

That ZOCOM thing doesn't make sense though..

I mean all they do is go around irradiating Tiberium right? So why are they composed of "battle-hardened veterans"? I mean, FFS, invade a Red Zone? Its Tiberium its not like its a big scary monster that is going to hunt you down and eat you, (not any more at least), all it does is ****ing sit there... I can understand the reinforced armour for protection, but battle hardened vets? And its not like mutants or terrorists are much to deal with, maybe if they were clashing with Nod forces it might be justified, but that would be a yellow zone, not a Red zone... ugh.

I'm still going through the backlog of archived news, so this may have been answered in a latter thread...

But the steel talon sub faction... how will the mechs fit into the universe - will they replace the apc and predator tank (did I get the name right?) or will you get the traditional C&C3 units plus these additional ones?

I guess I'm asking whether they will simply be just new skins, or units with new abilities?

ie. Titans with longer range or higher damage etc

I imagine they will replace the Predator and APC.

It'll be like in ZH, where the Generals didn't get a lot of the "core" units.

[AOL] Me too [/AOL]

Background: Favouring Steamroller tactics, the Steel Talons rely on brute force and relatively conventional forces.

It's just a little ironic that "Steel Talons" are the group that is using old technology for Brute Force. It's reminiscient of a Smash-up-Derby... use the old beaters for the ground work, then the sonic tanks clean up and take all the Glory! :)

They should have a retro background to fit in with their 'backward' technology... rather than trying to make them 'fit' into current timeline.

Steel Talons... from the GDI forward base that time forgot!

Aaah... see this could have been an underground base that was sealed up in case of emergency! With soldiers cyrogenically frozen to use the latest equipment and thawed out as part of a failsafe response to Kane's devestatingly new onslaught in later half of KW SP... an ironic mirror of Kane's get-out-jail tactics.

Anyway...

If it's mainly a matter of skins, then I guess the main difference will be the 'veterancy' of fresh units.

If they have to deal with tib fiends/mutant heroes they need all the protection they can get.

Well I agree with Luk3us...

He's talking about battle-hardened-veterans to clean out a viscious alien mineral... which seems weird. Not the protection of the equipment.

The same description without combat veterans works well, but maybe it's trying to support the ficion of veterancy for the troopers.

Rather than talk about the soldiers in the suits, they should have just created fiction to support the superior suit... therefore verterancy.

No, it use to be, but now its just a pretty little crystal that you put on a string and hang round your neck, and look pretty with. :P

 @luke...pretty lil crystal..i see what you're sayin man they kind of nerfed it...

but maybe the battle-hardened veterans have the FRAME OF MIND necessary to go into barren red-zones full of the unknown dangers related to tiberium...there is a level of bravery that only experience can deliver

Tiberium veins FTW!!!!

But Infantry really die quickly in tiberium. EA should add much, much more tiberium variations.

And I want ma gaddamn Cyborg Reaper!
