C&C FPS Article at ComputerAndVideoGames.com

Recommended Posts

There is an article about the new C&C FPS: Tiberium game at ComputerAndVideoGames.com that mentions EA's first official confirmation of this new Battlefield-meets GRAW-meets Rainbow Six: Vegas first person shooter set in the C&C universe.

EA has confirmed to us that the Command & Conquer series is merging with the first-person shooter genre in new title Tiberium.

The publisher was keeping lips pretty tightly sealed, but it did tell us that the game is pencilled in for a late 2008 release. Official images aren't expected until early next year, but there are scans already doing the rounds as additional details have appeared in Game Informer magazine.

It's said the game is a squad-based shooter that's set 11 years on from the third Tiberium war, and is being described as Battlefield-meets GRAW-meets Rainbow Six: Vegas.

Players strap on combat boots as Ricardo Vega, a GDI field commander who has come out of retirement.

The magazine adds that the Scrin faction debuting in C&C 3 will turn up as enemies in Tiberium - along with, presumably, Nod, although that isn't clear - and that as Vega you'll be able to command infantry squads and vehicles and be able to call in air strikes.

Plus, there's what is reportedly an early concept video of the game viewable here.

All of that is speculation from German CnC-Forums. I wanted to send these infos earlier (Along with more details), but since i dont see why this guy would know all this (It was a single user on two forums) i thought i rather wait for some officials.

I hope this will turn out alright.

Decent story would be good too.

I wonder if we'll learn more about Ricardo Vega in the second C&C3 novel.

Squad based in SP, means, you tell your team to stay put, whilst you go out and kill everyone and everything, and when you are sure all the danger has passed, you call your team over to you, so you can finish off the level. :P

But it should be kinda like what the BF series was like, I hope anyway, and less like the Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six versions are like.

I actually loved Republic Commando. I never played the PC version but i thought the xbox version was great. Something like that would be great although i'm expecting it to be more like GRAW 2

Except when your squad is a tank, of course :)

That's how I played Rogue Spear!

Yeah its the only way to do it, I mean the AI is so very stupid sometimes, and its just easier to do it all yourself than risk having one of those "valuable" idiots getting themselves shot.

Youre not a good leader, then ;)

It is BF in core gameplay, staffaged with tactical options, btw.

You can also use them to perform supress-fire, so you can flank the enemy.

But tactical shooters... I dunno... when I think of that I remember project IGI and that was hard...

Lol, I guess.

But the article gives lots of info. Maybe a little too much (since we haven't played KW yet).

Squad based, eh? Could be interesting.....kinda like running an SG team.

Then again, it all depends on how good EA's AI coders are. I mean Luke2as brings up a fair point (whether he meant to or not...) in that yeah, tell your squad to stay put while you clear the level. Means the enemy AI isnt exactly all that good. Though SOCOM US Navy Seals is an entertaining game, to say the least.

Will it be a another Renegade? Will this new game finally bring us a Squad Shooter worth bragging about? Has Cygnus gone senile in asking reduntantly annoying cliche'd questions? The world may never know.....

(and I'll just welcome myself back btw)

So yes, its a tactical shooter. Yay!

nothing is 100% sure yet.

But if that's what their'e going for, I hope they don't make it TOO tactical..

makes you get stuck in SP, and can end up bore you to death.

in FPS Action > tactics..

combination mostly turn out too boring in my opinion.

Ah the everlasting equation of all gaming in general. Action > tactics. Tactics are fun, but in real time games, ala C&C and anything else really, action is what makes a game go tick tick tick tock BOOOM.

You get the idea. Though at least some resemblance of tactics would keep the game spiced up and more interesting.

Interesting. And your PC's are going to need hellas upgrades yet again if you wish to continue the Tiberium Wars.

Then again, just get an XBox 360.

The element of tactical control, sort of like RTS is interesting. From an FPS standpoint. I dont know which thread(s) or how long ago (2 years?) but this was discussed in detail here, the concept of merging RTS with FPS.

The Squad Shooting just makes it more interesting. Assuming they pull it off.
