C&C 12th Anniversary - Get The Original C&C Free!

Recommended Posts

Today marks the official start of Command & Conquer's 12th Anniversary Celebrations. And as a gift to the fans, EA are giving you the opportunity to download the original Command & Conquer, the game that started it all, for free.

Thanks largely to the efforts of our loyal fans whom continue to sustain and grow the Command & Conquer community, Command & Conquer has become a legendary franchise and it’s time to celebrate its birth once again.

In order to give back to the fans for over 12 years of devotion we are putting together a 12th Anniversary celebration during the month of September. However, as any Command & Conquer fan knows, the true party starts today, August 31st, which marks 12 years since Command & Conquer Gold launched way back in 1995.

To kick the celebration off, today we have a special surprise which we are certain new and old Command & Conquer fans will enjoy. We are providing the original Command & Conquer Gold as a free download, compatible for Windows XP! This is the same version included with the collectors pack Command & Conquer: The First Decade, and is now available for you to download for free!

So if you want to get your copy of the original C&C visit the Official C&C Site for the download and installation instructions. Also take note that the free download of C&C Gold will only be available until the end of September.

Hah! Sweet! Can someone find other mirrors that are faster? I'm definitely going to download this tommorow. I'm going to install Daemon tools back again. Sweeeet!

I think its cool that EA are giving away the game now but I was hoping for something else, something I haven't seen before. I'm not really bothered either way to be honest.

But since its FREE people shouldn't be complaining or bitching about it. I see that hasn't stop people from the doing that here though http://www.cncden.com/index.php?subaction=...amp;ucat=1&

What I do find very strange is a 12th anniversary, seems a bit weird to recognise such a milestone when we already did the 10th anniversary 2 short years ago.

Still, it's better than nothing... I won't DL it though, I can buy the game for about $4 (about 300 pesos) at the nearest shop...

I'm not downloading it either, there is no point when I already have many copies here, including the original DOS version ;)

There are many people who haven't played the classics like C&C before so this a good opportunity for them to.

I wonder if EA will do the same for Red Alert?

This might get some people to use the new and improved C&C: Tiberian Dawn editor in TibEd 1.64. I see RA1 as a possibility as well during this month... but perhaps they'll do it next year? I'd rather see them provide some of the source code as well, so we can fix the crash-bugs - but that is not going to happen.

Regarding the source code thing. People have been asking about that for years now. And perhaps when APOC checks around these news threads he can offer a comment about that particular subject.

Don't you know EA? Expect a package with all games in TFD plus C&C3 in some months...

Well this comes under the 'nice' category for EA. Nice of them to do it, but when you consider I'm actually downloading the free "Farcry" version right now... it's not that *big* a favour.

Still it's something that should be done, and if as Sonic says, it's only available for a limited time - something that should be taken advantage of.

I was curious about the MP capabilities of this version, and how easy it was going to be to run on current OS. If they had fixed it to install/run easily on current systems - that would be a worthy action on their part.

My limited understanding is that source code release may help solve this, but that is will be unlikely, despite the fact that it's the fans that have the passion to go for this sort of thing.

Still... better than a poke in the eye with a burning red hot poker.

GJ.

Looks like, I imagine that they would have been chewing through a stupidly large amount of bandwidth...

Think so. You can easily mount the ISO with DAEMON Tools.

Get daemon tools from here. Run the program, right click on the tray icon and go to Virtual CD/DVD-Roml. Choose a device then click mount image. Then select the ISO file then it appears as in My Computer like a CD drive.

Kinda like an imaginary CD drive only that you're using your harddrive instead of a CD drive.

is it safe?

also, im going look for the answer of the following question myself but also ask here in case i dont find anything: what is the difference between CnC95 and CnC95 Gold?

Yes it's save, just don't install the toolbar that comes with it.

It acts as a DVD/CD drive but virtual of course so no actually installing it. An iso is a DVD/CD image that acts as a DVD, so you mount (put the DVD in the drive so to speak) the image (the iso) and wallah!

C&C 95 = Gold IIRC
