  1. The new version of the Mobius Map Editor has been released. This editor is an enhanced version of the C&C Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert map editor released by Electronic Arts for the Remastered collection, which has been upgraded to also support Sole Survivor. Since v1.5.0.0 it can work independently from the remaster, using the graphics of the original 90s games. This new version's main new feature is the ability to open the game's .mix archives, making it very easy to open all original missions and maps as reference material. Other improvements include a more accurate overlap detection system, much faster saving of map thumbnails, pixel fonts for all classic mode indicators, and the program no longer auto-connecting to Steam when it starts, to allowing easier map testing. The project's releases page Reddit post with a more detailed overview of the new features
  2. On 1 January 2002, official Sole Survivor servers on (the now also former) Westwood Online were shut down, leaving the series' first multiplayer-centric title without a way to play online. Only repetitive 15-minute deathmatches against AI opponents have been available to us since then. A small group of community members (OmniBlade, CCHyper, tomsons26) have taken it upon themselves to create some sort of alternative that would allow fans to play this game online and even experience the game modes that have been scarcely mentioned or documented. Currently, development is still ongoing and the tester pool is small (including some of the players who were part of the Sole Survivor community back in the day!), but there have already been livestreams by Jarmo and PapasNowPro as early as two weeks ago that can give you a taste of what the game truly looks like. While there is no strict timeframe for wider community access, the team did announce that they are planning to let more people in once they are satisfied with the stability and performance of their project. Truly great news for game historians, as whatever one may think of titles like this, we will soon be able to fully understand Sole Survivor and gain yet another argument on why relying solely on proprietary servers is a horrible, short-sighted decision that has taken more than one game from its audience...
  3. It's been almost 20 years since the last official server went offline... Is back! Many thanks to Chad1233 and N3tRunn3r for the screenshots! We (OmniBlade, CCHyper, tomsons26) are currently in the process of performing a controlled alpha test with selected players (including some of the original top-ranking Sole Survivor players!). This has been quite the journey for us to get Sole Survivor back online; Including reaching out to many of the old school Sole Survivor players for feedback and balancing, uncovering an early Sole Survivor beta test build, and also getting the game work on modern systems. These alpha testing sessions will help us balance the game modes to ensure they are as close to the original servers as possible. Once we are happy with the performance and stability of the server configuration, and we are able to perform player load tests, we will start to explore permanent solutions for hosting full-time servers, allowing us to finally open up the servers to the whole community! So, make sure to follow this topic to be notified of any updates! "Welcome to Sole Survivor"
  4. Howdy guys, My name is Jarmo. I'm some 30-something network engineer that lives in the United States (Colorado). I am a developer on the side. I have a dream of creating a spiritual successor to the game Command & Conquer Sole Survivor. I am currently working on a multiplayer wrapper for the Xenko game engine, I've got a month into netcode and hope to have most of the netcode ready by early 2018. I'd then be looking to put together a small team of guys who want to create a spiritual successor to Sole Survivor. If you didn't play this game in the C&C Universe you might have missed out, it was fantastic! I'm hoping to crowd source most of the sprites and 3d models.... It's going to be hard to find a stand-in for Frank Klepacki. If you can link me up with people that'd be interested in contributing or a better hub for Sole Survivor that'd be awesome. I played this game as a we lad in AAA, Penguins, and was in RABID for a minute too. Cheers -Jarmo
  5. Nyerguds, one of the community's most famed members and coders, has created the Westwood Font Editor, a tool which allows the editing of the official font files of various formats found in earlier Westwood games (Eye of the Beholder series, The Legend of Kyrandia series, Lands of Lore series, Dune II and 2000, Command & Conquer, Red Alert, Sole Survivor and Tiberian Sun, to name a few). This will allow easier development of fan-made localizations and modifications. You can download the latest version by following this link, the source code (written in C#, built on .NET Framework v3.5) is available as well. See this development thread for more information and full list of supported formats.
  6. The often forgotten Command & Conquer game, Sole Survivor, still has a small group of dedicated fans. And some of these fans have finally managed to enable high resolutions in Sole Survivor. As well as a few other discoveries. It looks like this is still a work in progress and not available for download right now, but you can check out some extra screenshots in this topic on the C&C Communications Center Forums.
