RA3 Unit Profile: Tanya

Recommended Posts

The Official Red Alert 3 Site has been updated with another unit profile. This one focuses the Tanya, the Allies Commando unit. As always, this profile has a short in game video, concept art and extra information. Here is a sample....

Known to have somewhat of a fiery disposition, Tanya allegedly has written authority to speak freely at all times, and therefore is never openly accused of what Allied high command must think is an insubordinate attitude. Nevertheless, Tanya's long string of successes in battle perhaps justifiably entitles her to some additional liberties and comforts. Though her exploits are far better-known than her identity, she is widely considered a modern-day heroine to the people of the many nations she has helped to defend.

Though Tanya travels light, she is never without her trusty Time Belt, a unique prototype developed by the sharp minds at FutureTech. This fantastical device somehow whisks Tanya back to her position several seconds ago--letting her correct any instances in which she miscalculates a combat engagement. Soviet ministers have publicly derided the device as "unfair", and although the Allies have rather desperately urged FutureTech to mass-produce it, only Tanya as yet possesses this technology. When asked of her concern for possible side-effects of matter-transporting herself, essentially negating any injuries while retaining the memories of those events, Tanya merely noted, "It's pretty wild." Her willingness to continue to use the device is contributing to research surrounding other, similar technologies.

Accessories:

» Bulletproof sports bra

I wondered how she managed to live so long with so little clothing...

The concept art looks promising, does this mean she will dye her hair before the game is released? Making her a brunette would make her better suited to play the role.

Nah. A blonde Tanya is more effective because of the stereotype. The enemy sees a blonde woman running towards them, they'd laugh their asses off until she wrecks their ****.

Maybe if they play up her being a spy more, an agent, who would be more the type to change her voice or appearence. Or maybe...maybe the problem is thinking this is the same Tanya from previous Red Alerts. Tanya is a code name...is she meant to be the same as before or a different person?

I wonder if she'll say "Kaching!" or some of the classic tanya voiceovers.

Yeah, I think that's it. Tanya is a code name, so I don't think she's actually supposed to be the same person every time, which is good because she looks nothing like the Tanya from previous games. ;)

Crazy Ivan was a codename. Tanya Adams is a person. Seriously, female super commandos that use the dual pistol with c4 tactics don't grow on trees.

The military do things like what the VF-103 did, they are the F-14 Navy squadran that have the bold colors and skull and crossbones. Well in World War Two a pilot in the VF squadran was shot down and his last radio message was "to be remembered with the skull and crossbones". Lo and behold, The squadran became so reknowned that they have featured in numerous pieces of fiction, Roy Fokker from Macross and his Veritech fighter done up in full VF decals for example. Maybe this is the same story here, Tanya Adams (the real one of the original Red Alert) was such a hero she was the codename for the Allies commando.

Sure, as far as being named after a hero is concerned, that sounds logical. Do tell me, though, how many women do you think the militaries of the world have that all share identical combat tactics, exceptional skill, and bad attitude? It would be challenge enough to find two male commandos like that, but female commandos are not as abundant as rice in China.

This is Red Alert we are talking about. Tanya has a time belt now that allows her to go back in time. A hard as nails woman wearing a sexy low cut top is more geared towards what appeals that a nameless faceless emotionless killing machine completely hidden under all the armor he wears.

Realistic answer...a lot of the militaries especially the special CT units around the world not only operate in a similar manner they crosstrain with each other around the world. It is not unheard of for Navy SEALS to undergo training and tactics not only with their own Detatchment Delta and FBI HRT, but British SAS, French GIGN and German GSG-9.

Still, which would you rather play with?

Well don't forget, they use time travel like a parrallel universe - so it could be the same Tanya but in three different timelines/universes.

Same character, different person AND actor.

Maybe if she looked less like this.

I guess we know how she got the role, right? Right?

You guys do realise that you have Tanya the "unit" mixed up with Tanya "the FMV character" right? Because to me they are totally separate.

Not for me... same same.

But wasn't she a mercenary in RA1, and more of regular Allied soldier in RA2/RA3?

"why do I always get picked for these volunteer missions" - fav quote from... somewhere.

She wasn't just a 'volunteer', she was a 'professional volunteer'.

Which is a contradiction in terms, but this is gaming, so nothing has to make sense really. :P
