Unofficial C&C Gold v1.06 Patch Released

Recommended Posts

After lots of work Nyerguds has released his own v1.06 patch for the original Command & Conquer. Many of the changes bring this ageless classic to the new millennium. It includes several program bug fixes, graphics updates, mission fixes and new features. Some of the most notable changes are as follows....

  • High resolution (1024x768) available
  • Skirmish mode enabled (note that the enemies have no bases though)
  • LAN play expanded to 6 players
  • Covert Operations added, and playable with any C&C CD
  • Dinosaur graphics are now always visible, so people no longer need Funpark mode to play fan-made missions that contain dinosaurs
  • A primary building can be selected for helipads, so people can prevent newly built helicopters from flying to their base from the edge of the map
  • Added a ton of new game settings that can be activated by editing the configuration file conquer.ini
  • "Right Away!" infantry response fixed; this was not played due to a mistyped string
  • Music remixes enabled - now you can hear the C&C music like it was meant to be!
  • Fixed a load of missions where errors prevented the AI from building stuff
  • Re-enabled the Ukraine mission in the GDI campaign

This is really some great work, well done!

I wish I could disassemble like this... I actually sat down and learned a bit about it this weekend.

It would be awesome if nyerguds released the source for this patch. It could hopefully teach me one or two things about disassembling.

Edit:

I just tried the patch and it works wonderfully. :)

Ideas on stuff to add:

Hold shift and drag over units to add them to the current selection.

Select airborne units.

Recover: You already have the source code, seeing as the patch is coded via ASM, thus you dissasemble the executable and view the pure ASM code.

Really should work on my TS patch, Nyer stealing all my time to help him on this, the swine! :P

Yea, but then I will just get asm, I won't have any clue what any of it does. Nyerguds must have made a lot of notes about where, why and how to change the code. It would be better than to start from scratch anyway.

1.07 final - Get the AI in skirmish mode to build bases!

At which point the community will probably give Nyerguds a proverbial kiss on the lips.

Get to work then dude! :P

Err, i dont think you quite understand programming do you?, and ASM for that nature :P

Nyerguds has notes yes, i have much more, just he has solid info about the game, like i have about Tiberian Sun compared to him.

Why and how to change the code? There is no why or how. You have to research the games code, debug it to find variables, structures, classes. This takes time, but if you understand ASM, its much quicker.

Nyerguds started with basic programming knowledge and moved into ASM, with the help of myself and pd, and hes done a good job and learning the basics i must say. It took me 3 years of researching Tiberian Sun to understand the game itself and get hooked with the basics of ASM, i then wrote my first hack and added a few things into Tiberian Sun like 3rd and 4th sides, more loading screens, a possible WaveClass fix and so.

You cant look at ASM with picky eyes, because i remember nights where i spent hours debugging the game jsut to work out how a variable was stored...

Now this is something i think Nyerguds should do, but i think it would take a LOT of time, as C&C games have there AI hooked into the respective classes, IE HouseClass and so.

But i have a idea of how to force it, just never got around to doing it, perhaps ill nudge Nyerguds to do it.

I like the way Nyerguds works so hard to keep the classic C&C game alive, even after it's really outdated and not many people play it anymore (I still play it once in a while). Great job with the patch and it's fixes. Hopefully, your patch will someday become official...

Great, now people that own TFD can finaly hear the music as it was ment to be because EA ****ed that one up. I had to do it manualy be extracting and changing file names ect. But now because of this patch I dont have to. (Y) :D

EA did not make The First Decade pack. The project was out sourced to Barking Lizards. So blame Barking Lizards for all the problems with TFD, and not EA.

Blame EA for outsourcing tbh.

I was sure that was Bush's fault!

Isn't everything?

I can't enable stuff that isn't there in the first place. C&C HAS NO base-building AI. Everything in the missions is 100% scripted.

Really, AI is a ton of functions... with parameters and variables. I hate that stuff. It's stack operations.

Just tried playing 1.06 and having fraps running. The game crashes a few seconds into any mission, even if you're not recording. This happens in all resolutions.
