EA Talks About Red Alert 3 Expansion Plans

Recommended Posts

More Red Alert 3 news from VideoGamer.com and EALA producer and C&C TV presenter David Silverman. Where he discusses their plans for the Red Alert 3 expansion. It appears as though EALA are considering portions of content instead of the traditional, massive expansion pack.

EA is considering giving Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 fans "portions" of post-release content that focus on one particular part of the game, instead of a single, all-encompassing expansion pack.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com in an interview to be published later this week, producer and C&C TV presenter David Silverman said that EALA would "address the fans' needs faster" by providing "portions" of a traditional expansion pack.

He said: "I don't know if we're going to follow a pipeline of, here's a traditional expansion pack, maybe looking at something that allows us to be a little bit more nimble and address the fans' needs faster by offering portions of that. So instead of, here's your giant massive $40-50 expansion pack, maybe it's, 'oh you want more story?', well here's the campaign expansion, 'you want more multiplayer maps and what not?', here's the multiplayer expansion, 'you want to play co-op?', here's the co-op expansion. If we can start to think about it like that it allows us to be a little bit more nimble and help address the demand from the fans faster."

:huh::o

thats for sure a strike back for Blizzard's StarCraft 2 trilogy...

to be honest i dont know yet how this will work, i mean it has to bee able to sell seperatly but yet again if you compine them all together you get something

thas has meaning....they must found a very good formula and tested, before they go on with the plan.

ok if i want more story, they would have eg 15-21 new missions with full CGI and FMVs? or just ingame cinematics, cause that will be negative.

in game cinematics can be made like Tiberium Wars 1st trailer, but i dont know...

if you get the multiplayer that means what? more units? will those be available in the single player?

i hope they will think it a LOT i dont care if i have to Wait, as long as they are Polished and have Quality, not Speed! fans David dont need Speed in releases if thats killing the quality!

goodluck i hope you find the magic formula and let us know ;)

Kind of what they did with Red Alert 1. Just simple "addon" expansion packs.

But still want to know how are they going to release the "portions". Through sales? patches? free download?

Personally, I prefer the classic BIG expansion pack with new campaign, new maps, new units, and a little change to gameplay. I think its easier and more organized.

Agreed. Breaking it up is nonsense.

Despite the fact that I dislike online play, if they released an online expansion, I'd compulsively have to get it.

Just one thing, it's so much easier, and I can wait.

Disagreed. Getting it in more parts helps me in keeping excited for the game.

I think that is a stupid idea. Also because of interoperability. And what about the multiplayer "maps"? I mean: Come on if I play with another person that has that map the map normally gets downloaded itself, so that is a bit stupid..? Not to mention that such maps most times find their way into the internet too - and if there will be a Map-Editor, I think there will be many self-made maps too.

Also as already mentioned: If I get a new campaign but no new units, isn't that kinda stupid? Especially as you normally introduce new units through cinematics and so in the campaign too.

Not to mention how much problems that will create with the Patches. With C&C3 e.g. you have completely seperated patches for the AddOn and the game. How will they do this here: Create one page for every "addon" and then for joint-Addons or do you have to install every Single-Addon Patch for every "Addon" you own?

Then I wonder if the game will (like in C&C3 AddOn) strictly differentiate between the each of them - then you would never be able to have everything (probably this won't be that way but that then makes Patching much more difficult a.s.o.).

Futhermore, I think that if you want all the parts it will very likely cost more than one full expansion.

I really hope they overthink this idea. Especially, as "big" (they don't need to be that big, just good) expansions doesn't take that much time to be released either.

Here I also want to add that I am not that happy with the StarCraft 2 way either. If they would release the new campaigns at least as normal expansions it would make a bit more sense but even then it doesn't. Not to mention that it very likely will cost much more than one to three expansions plus the full game.

I liked expansion packs like counterstrike and aftermath more than the larger expansion packs of today....

as nmenth said i'd probably compusively have to buy it

smaller expansions would be nice because i could choose what i want to pay for/download for free.

one whole expansion is nice because its just that: an expansion. expansion of the original game.

starcraft is doing somthing similar where they are releasing expansions that focus on each factions campaign solely.

there are alot of options here, but one thing is for sure i like how he put it - with emphasis on what the fans want, giving it to them faster..

First off, have EA ever developed a game and didn't plan an expansion pack in advance?

Secondly, I wonder if all the "portions" will cost more than a traditional expansion pack.
