What do you think! Christmas comes around every year and every year the same discussion goes on about "Christmas being too commercialized" or "There's no point to it" blabla. What's everyone's thoughts on the matter?

 

I wrote an article on my Blog last night about what I think on the situation.

As a kid its very a exciting time but once that all over Christmas becomes just another holiday. I just enjoy the food and drink plus the fact I get a few days off.

i've loved every christmas so far. problem is now i'm gonna be 22 this year so therefore the level of presents and money is just gonna DROP heavily because i'm now fully an adult in every way ; - ; not to mention the fact that money is real tight right now and i've chosen this of all years to buy presents for everyone else instead of letting mom get the presents and just letting her put my name on the tag and cards... >>;

my birthday is on the 12th. so close to xmas... which means although i do get sets of presents, combined they are only worth one set of presents because people can't afford to get me two full sets of gifts at one month of the year xD

 

so yah this year is gonna be slack at best. mom told me to pick something for my birthday and i pointed out a pc case... about £60. she said it was too much .-. i already talked about this in another post so i won't go on... x3;

 

but the good food and movies on tv is worth it o.o

I think that Christmas has become to commercialized but I still love it. And gotta agree with luk3s, it's a great time to eat alot, do very little and spend time with family

i do nothing all the time anyway ^^ just sit infront of the tv and chat on the pc or play games. that and unspeakable things XD but generally i don't do anything "socially productive" or whatever...

 

but at christmas i get free gifts, money and lots of food and good tv so i enjoy it that little more. though once again, this year i'm buying people stuff so i don't have to feel guilty when i don't get people things. normally we get gifts from the whole family (like my mom will get a gift for each member of my aunts family from me and mom, and my aunts family will get me and mom a gift from all of them...) but last year my big cousin went and bought everyone a present by himself as well. so now i have to do it >_>

 

the difference is i'm trying to make an effort with my gifts... my cousin got me like, gremlins 1 and that movie with the geeky kid dancing on stage. gremlins is alright but personally i'm really not bothered about either of those movies. he actually phoned me from the store to ask me what i wanted. i gave him like, five examples. all of which he could have easily got, half of them for special cheap deals like "tremors" (i know for a fact you can get that for £2 or £3 at zavvi now)

 

what happens? he completely shrugs off the suggestions and buys what he THINKS i'd like. if i remember right he also got me office space on dvd for my birthday too... which, once again i'm really not bothered about.

 

on the other hand i'm actually trying. difficult to know what people want and since i don't know their phone numbers or times to get ahold of them it's tricky at best. i know my uncle is a war fanatic and collects toy soldiers (he was what got me into it) so i know he'd like anything military that i'd like. so i got him a couple of (expensive!) books detailing infantry strategy and the history of the sherman tank o.o

 

everyone else i'm puzzled about. my mom said my aunt wants socks o.O; aaaaand when i bought a dvd the other day i got this little voucher to play paintball with 11 friends for free (worth £180). i'd use it but i don't -have- any friends, let alone 11 xD that is the kind of thing my little cousin would love though. so i was thinking of giving him that and £10 (each person who goes to the paintball has to give them £10 as a temp. if you turn up and start to play, you get it given back to you after. i figure if he doesn't wanna do the paintball he's still £10 up right? XD)

 

my big cousin -should- be easy to shop for. he's practically a tarantino clone. loves over the top violence and sex as well as guitar... but i'll have to find out if everyone has already got him things or not ._.;

I think my family have finally given up on putting effort into buying for me. Apparently I'm hard to buy for. It is kind of proven by the fact that in the past 3 weeks i haven't been able to fink of anything id want or someone could get me (am open to suggestions though).

Oh well.. they might just give me the cash instead, i wouldn't complain

there are loads of new games out at the moment. get some of them. if you can't run them, ask for new computer parts or a console or something. if you're really not bothered about games, ask for dvds. there are so many movies out there... chances are you can find at least ONE movie you'd love...

 

if it's sci-fi, war, classic horror or b-movie chances are i've either seen it or know about it o.o; but there is always another movie out there. thus my quest goes on :3

but yah. there must be SOMETHING you're interested in? games, movies, books, toys, collectables... i mean come on there are millions of things out there. apart from the obvious point that you're hanging about on a C&C forum you must do -something- other then sit on your butt playing a C&C game all day o.o;

Sorry, I am used to typeing and texting in text language and come on here and use proper english. sometimes i just forget about the change.

 

Problem is I work for decent money but dont have to pay rent or for food or internet. In fact on top of money earnt my perents give me more money each month so when i want something I just buy it on the spot. Thanks for the suggestions though, might go look for some movies online to suggest to people, start a little collection.
