Watchmen (2009 film)

Recommended Posts

Based on the highly acclaimed graphic novel Watchmen, the story takes place in the year 1985, a peculiar man in an ink-spotted mask investigates the murder of a patriotic war hero, Eddie Blake, who was thrown out the window of his apartment. The masked man, under the alias of Rorschach, finds out that Eddie Blake was the infamous masked adventurer the Comedian. Devising his own theories, he warns all other living costumed vigilantes about the death, and in his attempt to find out who was behind the murder, learns of a dark secret that he, Nite Owl II, and Dr. Manhattan must revive their identities to stop before the clock strikes midnight.

Judge Gives FOX Watchmen Movie for Xmas

Judge Gives The Watchmen Movie to FOX for Christmas. Fanboys.. we may have a problem! Alan Moore will be getting his wish for Christmas. Him and FOX studios. According to a post on ReelComix a Judge has ruled in favor of FOX in the legal battle between FOX and Warner Brothers over who really owns the rights to the upcoming Watchmen movie which was supposed to be in theatres next March. FOX has won.

Although Warner Brothers will obviously want to appeal and or negotiate a settlement with FOX we are all pretty much screwed as of right now. FOX bought the rights to the film in the 80's with the intentions of only doing the film if Alan Moore would work on writing it. When Alan said 'no way jose' FOX decided to shelf the project for good. Somehow the film ended up at Warner Brothers and once they finished making it FOX jumped on the project.

As it stands right now the Judge has ruled that FOX has a right to the film which means that we as fans may very well be screwed as they shelf the movie. That said do I believe FOX will shelf it? Hell no. They will settle for ownership of the movie and all the profits at the box office. It will be a huge and easy payday. Stay tuned for more... I am sure this legal battle is not over.

well i'm curious about the movie but i can't say i'm massively excited... i haven't gotten around to reading the graphic novel yet, dispite my big cousin letting me borrow it for a few months... the trailers looked good though and i've heard nothing but good things about it...

looks promising. could turn into another dullard superhero movie but i hope not... i'm not that excited about miller's take on the spirit either. i never read the DC comics for that but looking by the adverts it's the kind of thing that would appeal to young boys just hitting puberty >->;

what with all the random women that are basically easy to get and very forward dispite apparently being the opposite... and bad guys with big over the top flashy guns and stuff... bleh >.<;

eh go figure. i HATED sin city, 300 was alright (though i'm a stickler for historic accuracy so that hurt my brain...) but the spirit? eeeeh pass >->

I suggest that you should really start reading this old graphic novel. The story is really brilliant! This is not Frank Miller's work btw, it's our grouchy annoying Alan Moore. No offense I love Alan Moore's work, but like everyone else, we find his attitude very annoying. Anyway, like I said, you should start reading it once you are free.

Oh yea, I remember her from Sin City. Lol, no wonder you're sold.

Here's a part of the making-of Watchmen titled "Girls Kick Ass" video.

Here's one some pics.

300 was in no way visionary though. And Alan Moore annoying? Sorry, but I can quite relate to his discontent, given how badly they fricked up both "LoeG" and V.

The fate of this film is indeed a big headache. I hope it gets released on March 2009, and not get delayed by FOX, or worse, canned.

i know it's not frank miller xD but he's doing the spirit movie... which was what i was ranting about x3;;

yah i'm really not a fan of comic book movies. they 99% almost always mess it up. and usually badly. problem is that most of the people who make the movies either don't study the comics they are working from, or they give in to the hollywood guys.

aaaan then it all goes downhill. i would like to see a comic book movie where they actually -stuck- to the plot of the story... say they took a multi-issue thing then played it all out as a live action movie. now if they had done those for the spiderman movies i'd be a lot happier. say maybe the spider slayer thing or the alternate history thing... or the captain america story (working from the reinvented spiderman tv animation series. the one after the ORIGINAL x3; made in like, the 80's or 90's...)

but in all honesty all they have to do is choose a character they wanna make a movie about, then go and find a graphic novel/collective tale comic and just play that thing out on film. that way so long as you get decent special effects and actors no-one can complain because it is literally working from the source material xD

but i gotta say i'm waiting for the wolverine movie methinks :3 cos deadpool and gambit are in it so i hear <3

(and lord knows anything with deadpool in it is gonna be godly XD)

It's coming! I can hardly wait! Who's planning to watch this weekend or something?

Btw its rated R, so I guess most kids will not be able to catch this film. But I'm certain a handful of folks here are above 21 right?

Sorry I was doing Luk3us back up there lol

From the trailers it looks like a generic superhero comic turned movie, but I will reserve judgement till i have seen it.

I don't get excited over most movies...

And this one is no exception, I'll see it as it looks reasonable though. That and I like the move from stupid "happy" action movies to more, "hard and gritty" ones... Though that isn't to say you can't have the odd happy action flick now and then. Else you get saturated.

Despite Carla Gugino being in this. I'm in no hurry to see it. I saw the previews on TV about an hour ago and it didn't really grab me. I'll wait for the Wolverine movie later this year for a super hero fix.

Well that's disturbing...

I found the graphic novel to be rather boring, so there is no motivation for me to watch it in movie form.

I am very surprised, for someone like you, seemed uninterested in such genre of comic/films. :huh:
