Renegade X 0.35 Beta Released

The much anticipated day has finally arrived. Renegade X 0.35 Beta has been released and is available for download now from many mirrors. Renegade X is total conversion mod for Unreal Tournament 3. The classic unrivalled Renegade gameplay created by Westwood has now been updated and improved upon, harnessing the power of the Unreal Engine.

 

The day you have all waited for has finally arrived! After over two years of planning, building the mod, and updating our fans, the moment we've all worked so hard for is finally here. Our passion for C&C Renegade has been channelled, and manifested into this great project, Renegade X. Today is a great day for our mod and our community, as it marks a new beginning for Command & Conquer Renegade fans everywhere, a fulfilment of our promise, and the start of a new generation of C&C FPS gaming.

 

Today is the day where we release the very first incarnation of Renegade X. It is our first beta, which features the basis of C&C Renegade's game mode and units. It's the very first of many public releases, given to the public to ensure a stable and exciting full release of the mod in the future. Renegade X 0.35 does not contain everything the mod will eventually offer, as it is an early beta, but it is your chance to get an early taste of Renegade X, and an opportunity for you to share your opinions, ideas, and help us in the process of fixing glitches.

 

The Renegade X team plans on releasing patches after each beta release, to fix any problems we may encounter as the open beta ensues. New content is also on the way.

A Renegade X Basic Tutorial video has been posted as well. It briefly explains the basics of "C&C mode", for those of you who either haven't played C&C Renegade online, or simply need a refresher.

You didn't mention that Renegade X requires UT3. I know that any C&C fan should already know that, but in case someone ignorant in Renegade X finds this, should they not be informed before downloading the game?

Good point but like you said people should know that by now, especially if they have been following the news. I made some quick edits and additions to the news post.

You need the latest Unreal Tournament 3 patch witch is 2.1. If you bought the Steam Unreal Tournament 3 Black Edition you do NOT need this patch.

I can't find any info about the Titan Map Pack. Maybe its mentioned on the Renegade X forums somewhere.

 

I find it easier to connect to servers using the Renegade X Server Client.

 

 

The installer should have put a short cut to it in your Start Menu. If not you will find it in your C:\Users\LOGIN NAME HERE\Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\Renegade folder, the file is Renegade-X.exe. It connects to you to the servers, bypassing the menu options.

 

While on the subject of the Server Client program. And update for it has been released.

Description/Fixes:

 

This patch is intended to fix the player count to properly display the correct amount of players within a server instead of displaying 0 amount of players. Everyone must update to this new patch.

 

It is upto the servers to quickly install this patch as it is dependant on the server to have this installed for their server to properly display the player count information in the server client. If a Client updates but notices that some servers still display 0 player count, it is because that server has not yet updated to this patch.

 

It is recommended that all servers install this patch and enable downloading as any client who wishes to join the server but does not have the patch will automatically download it from your server. And because this is a small patch, it will be an ideal method of distribution.

 

===============HOW TO Install=================

Simply Extract the "RenX_SC.u" file to the "Script" folder where the mod is located.

 

My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\Renegade\Published\Script\

 

There already exists a file with the same name so simply overwrite that file and everything will be installed properly.

Still having problems it seems. Got other mods I've been playing over the the last few months for UT3 all without any issues.

 

I thought it could have been those.. so completely did a new install yesterday and wiped everything down the the registry, then installed this first (even with a new download to check that wasn't at fault) and low and behold... RenX crashes just as the splash screen comes up. UT3 still works fine... better than fine actually, works better than before!

 

I think I'll wait for a much later, more stable Beta version. I had this problem with A Path Beyond when the first ever release of that came along, so I'll just rely on my patience. Nevermind, it's all work in progress after all.

There is a glitch on the Islands map in the area that allow tanks to drop down into the water. Don't forget this is a beta after all.

The RenX team have PS3 plans but not at this stage. When its 100% complete. From the official RenX FAQ thread on their forums:

 

Q: Are you gonna cook this for the Playstation 3?

A: Yes we plan on porting this to the PS3, however, not until after the final PC version is done. So that means no betas for the PS3.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the PS3 SDK is upwards of ten grand USD, after a 75% price cut give or take. Now, C&C is pretty sweet, but dumping that kind of money into it is going to take a lot of donations to reach what's probably quite a smaller audience.
