A new Facebook group called Command & Conquer Generals 2 - We Want It, has been started by a German C&C fan with the full support of our friends at CnCSaga.de. This new Facebook group is a concentrated effort to show EA what the fans want for the next Command & Conquer.

Generals 2 would be nice, unless EA manage to screw that up as well...

They already did with Generals 1. Gen2 would be a fail as epic as an expansion for C&C 4 :P

Generals was a great game with an even better expansion pack. I'm totally down for supporting a Gens2. Wish EA just supported ZH better, if they had, it could have still been an RTS people look at to play on competitively and casually.

I am up for Generals 2. Only problem is that the new RTS team in Victory Games, can they really suit up something better than the last RTS team that made a buggy Generals and Zero Hour? This should have been up after Red Alert 3 release.

I'm fine with a gen 2, thing is I kind of want the new dev team to make their own universe with C&C gameplay elements. It would be a fresh start for everything, especially story...

Isn't it a little late to be showing "EA what the fans want for the next Command & Conquer" considering whatever it is has already been under construction for quite some time now?

@Nmenth: I think you're right. I mean, a game's development period can last (if they really want to make a good game) from two-to-four years. As an example, all the Halo games had 4-year development phases. However, Halo 2 faced a lot of changes midway (that is, in the two or three year mark; it was in their dev blog), and the game suffered from that. I am a Halo fan, but I'm not blind to its weaknesses. Taking that event into account, at how even an experienced and skilled team can actually make errors due to sudden changes in development, I think that, if they weren't planning a Generals 2 from the start, then chances are they wouldn't (and shouldn't) suddenly go back to the drawing board just to cater and make a Generals 2.

As much as I loved Generals, and as much as a good Generals 2, with better gameplay, plot and graphics will please me, I go with the new IP crowd. New IP for the C&C series, a fresh start from the string of disasters since C&C4.

P.S. Could anyone tell me how long they have been working on this already?

P.P.S. Checked it already. If they're making an announcement later this year, then we can safely assume that they're off the drawing board already and working on key elements like the engine overhaul. To turn back and redraw everything would be a critical error, since it would put them off-schedule and possibly necessitate more changes than can be done with what time remains for the development. Imo, it would be better for them to focus, polish and perfect whatever they have on hand then discarding it just to cater to what some (it might be a majority or a minority, but it's definitely not everyone) want the next game to be.

I think they already knew what they were going to be doing since more than a year ago.

New IP over Generals 2 any day for me.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. C&C needs to be completely rebooted with a new IP, new story and so on.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. "Just say no to Generals 2!"

It is late, but you have to applaud their effort I guess.

Somehow I don't think the purpose is to show EA anything. It's more sharing common wishes than anything else. And it's not like EA would ever listen to a bunch of fans with a FB page, anyway :')

If the number of fans increases significantly, I seriously doubt that EA won't listen. But that is, if that number increases, and if they think that they still have time to shift gears and go back to the drawing board.

I don't think a facebook campaign would ever work, but I would be happy with Gen2.

I guess this is my own lack of knowledge here - but I don't really think any one game has really achieved commercial and critical success in the modern warfare rts genre.

As in, it's not an overcrowded markert for EA to investigate. There is room to make a name in the sub-genre...

The thing I worry about with a new ip, is the personal investment into the franchise. (I guess this is a moot point when comparing it with Gen2) A new IP means I will need to forge a bond with it. I don't know if I have the capacity for that. The advantage of a modern warfare game (ala Gen2) is that regardless of story, we get to play with all the modern and near-futuristic weapons in the world. That would have some obvious appeal.

The problem is I guess is the fiction or story setup. We only have one military super-power left, everybody else has left the playing field, we have no obvious two or three armies to bash heads again.

The most delicious storyline is defending against evil America - but who is going to make that?!?

No one.

Modern Warefare is what Gen2 was about... technolgy v numerical superiority v terrorism.

But the GLA component didn't really work. IMO.

Maybe they could make it work with a second attempt?
