Renegade X: Beyond Black Dawn

It's been a while since we last heard from the Renegade X team. They are back with a fresh new update to bring everyone up to speed. The latest update covers the second anniversary of the first Renegade X beta release, a look at the development side of Renegade X, and lastly a new video log that includes some never before seen footage of Black Dawn gameplay and cinematics. Check out the video below.

I just dropped more jaws than should be anatomically possible. RX is really by far the most professionally done Project of all C&C projects.

TBH, it's hard to look bad when everything takes place in dimly lit areas. I wish they'd brighten it up a bit. Seems unnaturally dark all over, everywhere you see. Otherwise it's interesting and definitely worth looking at.

TBH, it's hard to look bad when everything takes place in dimly lit areas. I wish they'd brighten it up a bit. Seems unnaturally dark all over, everywhere you see. Otherwise it's interesting and definitely worth looking at.
It's part of good game design to draw focus to the well-developed features and have players not care about underdeveloped ones by having them take a back seat in palyer's perception. This applies to both gameplay as well as graphics. You can't make a perfect games, so the ones most perfect should also be most prominent with the rest just providing the glue to keep the important parts together.

I think you misunderstand what I'm trying to get across. Bad lighting is not part of good FPS game design. It's bad. It looks bad. It needs a focus on better lighting so that you can tell what is going on without needing to squint and stare. Your post would be great if it concerned problems with the game design like weapons and vehicles and how they work, not the basics of being able to see WTF you're doing.

Yeah... thats definatly too dim. Cant have that...

Yes I know you're refering to the darker lighting, but trust me on this one it isnt too dark where you cannot see a single thing. Its actually very clear and very easy to see when you're actually playing the game.

 

 

And thanks a lot guys for all the awesome feed back. I must say I'm actually very suprised at how overwhelming the responce has been because to tell you the truth, this update was not even planned. Fobby just said a few days ago, "Hey lets make a small video blog update.", and so... yeah... Big suprise on our end on just how massive of a reaction we've gotten from this tiny update, and we have the C&C community to thank for that. So again, thank you guys for all the great feed back, it really does help tremendously with modivation and the drive to create something phenominal.

I like what I see, it's just that most of it seems so damn dark that it's hard to tell what's going on. It kind of suffers from that "gunflash syndrome" common in so many games, where they expect your gun to light up the surroundings to the point that they make everything dark so it's very obvious.

 

Otherwise I really do like it. I'm just critical. You've known me long enough to know that. ;-)

Don't have any problem with that in the media shown. The light level seems adequate on my monitor.

Yeah keep motivated because we all Love it .Guys you doing a Great job ...what im dreaming is to see it on STEAM and see the overwhelming reaction of Gamers to see a quality fun game free .I just hope your team stay together ..its too nice job .

Maybe wearing sunglasses in front of your pc isn't the best idea? :P

 

 

Anyways this video looked so fantastic, even if it's done very quickly it shows how much the mod improved with the UDK.

I can't wait for the Black Dawn release and then the first standalone MP release. That means I don't to have to reinstall the crap called UT3. The only reason I purchased UT3 was play the current release of Renegade X.

Short for Unreal Development Kit

 

is the New game still done with UT3 engine ?

in the video fobby said its in the final stage idk what had to be done in a final stage.

Knowing this ..how long your guessing the final stage will last?..well im trying to figure out when we might play Renx ;)

Wow --- even in pre-alpha this video shows an amazing experience to come.

(I love the lghting as it is ACK... those night missions would probably be set-pieces for a SP experience... and I can't wait to LEVEL UP!)
