Doctor Destiny 42 Posted September 7, 2004 Erm, no, don't install it. Microsoft took it offline anyway so you can't get it. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 301 Posted September 8, 2004 I don't know if I'll install it yet. I have it on CD so its there if I need it. There have been to many nasty stories floating around from people who have had their systems turn to crap after installing it while other report no problems. Anyone here running SP2 without problems? J-Fire_Man 0 Posted September 8, 2004 Nope, I didn't get any error since long time ago Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted September 8, 2004 Bah my mate said it screwed up most of his programs. Stupid MS Share this post Link to post
J-Fire_Man 0 Posted September 8, 2004 Well, maybe your mate can't use XP SP2 correctly Share this post Link to post
Phreakly 0 Posted September 8, 2004 Yeah, most problems generated with windows are caused by the user. If you work with the software and don't do stupid things to it, you won't have problems. But most people treat their computers like crap and don't make sure things are running properly and smoothly in the first place. If you haven't mistreated windows, it won't give you problems when you try to upgrade it. Just be intelligent about it, that's all. Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted September 8, 2004 It isnalled and runs perfec' for me, and I have a partition. My little brother treats the computer like crap so I'm supprised it went well. Share this post Link to post
Cyborg_Commando 0 Posted September 8, 2004 is there any way you can find out which SP you have installed on your PC Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted September 8, 2004 Right click on My Computer and hit properties. It tells you on the General tab near the top. You probably won't have it installed. Share this post Link to post
J-Fire_Man 0 Posted September 8, 2004 SP 2 IS GREAT. I can play old games now. I always treat my comp carefully, so rare for me to get error unless if I modify a game or overclocking my comp (only once I ever overclock my comp, I heard it's dangerous and need special care). Hans5849 0 Posted September 9, 2004 I always treat my comp carefully, so rare for me to get error unless if I modify a game or overclocking my comp (only once I ever overclock my comp, I heard it's dangerous and need special care). BS, Overclocking is awesome i have a 2.4Ghz processor that runs at 3.0Ghz running at a max of 40C with a 1000mhz FSB with 0 hardware problems. Download SP2 Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted September 9, 2004 It is dangerous, by overclocking you automatically void the warantee on your processor and possibly motherboard and RAM. However it is impossible to do any permenant damage because decent mobos should automatically shut down your computer if there are any problems. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 301 Posted September 9, 2004 Download SP2 Screw downloading SP2. Just ring Microsoft and they will send it you on CD, free of charge  If you have a fast connection it won't take long to download. Although Microsoft's servers can be painfully slows sometimes. Share this post Link to post

chickendippers 1 Posted September 9, 2004 Well basically you make ur processor go faster than the default. Processors can go faster than they are set to run at by defualt, you can just tell it to go faster (but it involves a bit of trial and error and some patience to get right). That's why I hate to overclock my computer, better if I upgrade my comp. Eventough overclocking promises me a great speed, I don't use it, too dangerous. Share this post Link to post

J-Fire_Man 0 Posted September 13, 2004 Better using safe ways than overclocking your comp, you can lost your lomp. Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted September 13, 2004 No you can't. If you've got a modern mobo it will have all sorts of saftey features in that will prevent you from damaging your computer. For example; I overclocked my computer but while playing Rt Castle Wolfenstein it simply closed itself. The system thus prevented the cpu from overheating. My mobo also has a protection system that prevents the computer from starting up if it has been overclocked too far and forces you to turn it down before it will start up again. J-Fire_Man 0 Posted September 14, 2004 Well, I mean some mobos don't have that kind of protection, old mobos Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted September 14, 2004 Well that's your problem for having an old/cheap-ass mobo Share this post Link to post
Sonic 301 Posted September 15, 2004 I finally took the plunge and installed SP2 for XP. No problems. Installation went smoothly. However from what I understand most people reported problems as they carried on using their PC, running some programs or starting their games. I'll continue to monitor my system and see how things go. Share this post Link to post
