If you have usernames with certain characters the entire forum layout went wacky and severely off center. If you posted in an odd manner like spamming numbers in a post then it stretched things out and literally made the forums unreadable. If you didn't delete older threads in a timely fashion(we found this out the hard way before C&C 4 released) the forums itself went wacky. So VB is a large improvement over Jforum. Could we use something better? Surely we could but security is always a problem. If you know of other forum software that Eric could pass on to the security team to investigate then it wouldn't hurt for future reference. Share this post Link to post

Tore 33 Posted June 5, 2013 As far as forum software goes I like FluxBB and SMF. I would like MyBB if it would ever work properly when I set it up. The only problem I have with SMF is that it looks dated, but that's almost a plus for the forum I run. Share this post Link to post

I moderate a phpBB-based forum, Gulf Knight's Air Base (aimed at Jane's Combat Simulations games - an abandoned EA-licensed franchise), and save for a main page login issue (not linked with the forums themselves), it gets the job done pretty well. EDIT: Forgot about its security. Spam accounts apparently are not linked to emails. This New Year's Eve, I spent 20 minutes purging the forums from literally 100 spam topics from various "artists". We used to host our forums using phpbb, and over time, the forums just slowly became overwhelmed with spam and problems in general. PurpleGaga27 40 Posted June 7, 2013 (edited) Well here're the issues I am seeing: 1) Posting on white background with black rich text and a dark wallpaper background? Too much contrast in the forums. Some color fonts and other fonts are unreadable making some people getting dizzy or having eye problems. Also the post editing is too slow to load and it's buggy. Oh come on, even the Revora forums know how to use the white background design correctly without any black in the back. 2) The login/log out issue is worse than before. One minute of inactivity in the forums and you are automatically logged out for apparently no reason. When users logged in, the list of users logged in are shown in avatars instead of word names. Reply posting from users just to log in are missing too. 3) EA is using Origin names to log into the forums (regardless of which game). Weren't the original C&C forums supposed to be separate from EA's? 4) Some fonts in black background are also black. 5) Turning the pages in a thread has no button of going last or first. 6) The like button is back, similar to the reputation like button in this forum. But who needs that feature? 7) The modified smiles and the avatars are unacceptable. Also there's no signatures. I found another easter egg in the forums, the bars shown under user names either has the status "is in a distinguished road" or "is infamous around these parts". I don't know WTH those mean. Johnnyxp64 20 Posted June 7, 2013 the gray dot background inthe new forum is indeed terrible, they where aiming for hitech style, sorry missed it! also the white posts in a dark theme its totally an eyes killer! wth?!!! hello any designer out there???? did anyone tell then you never put black and white next to each other in a forum! unless you want to cause eye problem to all your readers, and not spent time in the forums! oh wait they wish from the community feedback.....hmmmmmmmm i think i will do that from the CnCnz forums. IPB forums for example don't log you out in 15 minutes. If there's X minutes of in-activity, you don't appear on the browsing list, but you will never be "logged out" as such.
