Sonic 293 Posted September 18, 2013 MPF-Games has announced Red Alert FPS, a new game running on Renegade's W3D engine with Red Alert units, buildings and assets recreated from scratch. It is not to be confused with the long-running Red Alert: A Path Beyond by Bluehell Productions. You can read the original announcement post right here on our forums or check out the Red Alert FPS site for more. You will also find them on IndieDB and Steam. Share this post Link to post
Plok 320 Posted September 18, 2013 Since I, and most of the W3D community, have already played A Path Beyond until we got sick of it, I don't quite see the point either. APB lost its players both due to the fact that it's been out for so long and showed more how stale it is than the fun it can give in the last year or so, and to the fact that Reborn was released and got us something new and relatively different to play with. I doubt RAFPS will pick up where APB has left off, no matter how hard they try - RA1's gameplay doesn't give all that much to begin with, either (no offense to MPF, of course). 2 Share this post Link to post
zunnie 3 Posted September 18, 2013 Thanks for posting this Sonic Much appreciated man. We really like the W3D engine, graphics is not really important either, gameplay is what counts. Some good visuals here and there is nice though. I personally do this because i really liked APB back in the Beta days, after that it went kind of downhill IMHO and it doesn't look like it will get any better soon. And i like modding W3D in general. It's a nice little project to work on i think and a few others feel the same, guys/girls that really know their way around in the W3D area. Yea it will take a long time and we only just started, the road is long but we're gonna try make something fun Share this post Link to post
PurpleGaga27 39 Posted September 18, 2013 If gameplay is what counts, then how come the devs haven't done a skirmish mode for RA APB and even Tiberian Sun Reborn so players can try and play them offline? Someone should have thought of making a Red Alert and Tiberian Sun FPS under the Unreal Engine 3 in the first place since SP AI is supported there. 1 Share this post Link to post
Guest Rabbit Posted September 18, 2013 AI is supported in the W3D engine, it just needs to be scripted quite a bit in order to function properly, because basically, every action the AI takes (aside from defending itself) needs to be scripted very precisely. I agree though, it would be awesome to see a single player campaign of some kind for a Red Alert W3D game, but that's a whole different ballpark after the actual multiplayer game is actually complete, while at the same time, the replay value is extremely limited, so it really chews down the priority in making it. It's probably one of the reasons that the original Renegade never had a Nod campaign. Takes a hell of a while just to script a helicopter dropping off a single gun, and it takes a coding style that not many people are comfortable with, much less understand. Not to mention, on top of that, you have to design unique maps with interiors and world boundries that are built for singleplayer. You can't have a decent singleplayer campaign on a row of multiplayer maps. Share this post Link to post
zunnie 3 Posted September 18, 2013 (edited) I did make a dozen COOP maps for APB Beta back in the day, they were great fun to play.It takes alot of coding/scripting/mapping/modeling to get a map like that done.Probably the most well-known coop map i did was Soviet Invasion. A video of it i uploaded here a looong time ago I've experimented with some Single Player stuff and it is quite a lot of work to do but i can do it. Everything you do has to be linked together pretty much.I am thinking of doing some Single Player stuff, but the Multiplayer part goes first. We want to push out a few relatively decent maps for multiplayer before starting work on Single Player and/or Coop maps.PS: We are hiring Here is another short video: Good memories New highres logo custom designed by Kenz3001 Damn that guy is awesome in graphics Edited September 19, 2013 by Sonic Merged 3 posts in a row from the same person Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted September 19, 2013 Not sure how I feel about this. I would honestly rather see a Red Alert FPS made out of the IW engine or UDK. Much more freedom and it would garner more interest than an archaic engine. I lost interest in APB years ago and this one does nothing for me. Complete ambivalence, but I guess I can wait and see where it goes. Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 100 Posted September 19, 2013 Small note here... From everything I've seen here, it's not an FPS. It's third person. Share this post Link to post
zunnie 3 Posted September 19, 2013 I guess we could remove the 3rd person camera view, but sooo many ppl would rage then... Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 100 Posted September 19, 2013 I'm just confused why you're calling it "Red Alert FPS" so enthusiastically when it's not FPS but TPS, is all. Just seems like you misnamed it. Share this post Link to post

In Renegade and W3D-based mods, you can hit F to switch between first and third-person modes Share this post Link to post

I agree, using a modern engine would be more beneficial if you intend to give this project a serious go and make something of it. If you went with UDK you could be the Red Alert counterpart to the Renegade X guys But best of luck with whatever direction you go in with this. Share this post Link to post

Sonarpulse 1 Posted September 21, 2013 You'd be better off making an APB mod. Share this post Link to post
zunnie 3 Posted September 22, 2013 The models in APB are very nice but we want to make our own Share this post Link to post
zunnie 3 Posted September 23, 2013 Created by roszek, pretty neat i think, and yes it will chronoshift players and vehicles. Share this post Link to post
Plok 320 Posted September 23, 2013 Well, an interesting tidbit is that N3tRunn3r will be working with the RAFPS team. Huh. 1 Share this post Link to post

Small update about our to be Power Plant from Pwn Call, it is not in its final state obviously a WIP: Credits: Pwn Call from the Dev Team @ MPF. Share this post Link to post
