BWare 0 Posted January 25, 2005 You maybe. I don't believe in any of that supernatural crap. oh geez... denial, Luk3us. The fact is that the desire for "spirituality" is hardcoded into us biologically. Some interesting discoveries in that area were addressed in a recent Times magazine piece called "the God Gene." Interesting stuff... Now Luk3us, do you have anything substantial to say besides calling anything supernatural "crap?" That seems pretty foolishly closed-minded... how about engaging in a grown-up intellectual debate? Wouldn't that be fun? I thought most of us had outgrown simple-minded name calling... Although here in the States its been pretty cold latley. Not as cold as Russia or Canada, but for midwest U.S. Pretty cold. Doesnt feel like global warming anytime soon. hahaha... yeah, exactly Cygnus. Even down here in Florida it's been unseasonably cold. This is not anything to freak out about. Climates shift. These alarmist idiots are blowing the whole thing WAY out of proportion. Global warming DOES NOT exist. The flawed logic behind a lot of this is just incredible... take the Day After Tomorrow for example. It was just a movie, but it was intended to deliver a pointed political message. They said that the earth plunged into an ice age before, and now, because of our horrible pollution, it was happening again. Now this begs one simple question... WHO CAUSED THE FIRST ONE?? Were the dinosaurs driving SUVs?? The whole thing is just ridiculous. Share this post Link to post
General immeyourenot 0 Posted January 25, 2005 Ice ages are just part of what happens on the planet, when the next one comes there is nothing that anyone can do to stop it. If we all die out then good, rid the planet of the stain that is the human race. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted January 26, 2005 However, a mere ice age take it will not to destroy the human "stain" Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted January 26, 2005 However, a mere ice age take it will not to destroy the human "stain" lol. But it'll make a dent. Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted January 26, 2005 Unfortunately some idiots will survive Share this post Link to post
General immeyourenot 0 Posted January 26, 2005 Yeah, all the people that deserve to live will get killed & all the arseholes will survive. Its called sod's law. Maybe if we are lucky they will freeze to death before they realise that it might be a good idea to put on warm clothes Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted January 26, 2005 Ice ages are just part of what happens on the planet, when the next one comes there is nothing that anyone can do to stop it. yeah, exactly. We have little to no power over the earth's climate. If we all die out then good, rid the planet of the stain that is the human race. Wow. Now THAT is twisted. Dude, what the heck is wrong with you? Maybe if we are lucky they will freeze to death before they realise that it might be a good idea to put on warm clothes You are REALLY a hardcore misanthrope, huh? Share this post Link to post
General immeyourenot 0 Posted January 26, 2005 There is nothing wrong with me, I just view what I see as the truth, life on earth is an acciedent, a set of fortunate circumstances created us, we have NO PURPOSE other than to reporduce & carry on the survival of our species, a species which hunts others to the brink of extinction & beyond, pollutes the atmosphere, destroys habitats & generally makes a mess of the perfect place that was earth, which is now just one big chemical soup. Human beings are also the only species capable of evil. We have wrecked this planet, whether you believe God gave it to us or it was a coincidence. We have destroyed it & we should be ashamed of ourselves. That is why i refer to humanity as a "stain", becuase earth would be better off without us. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted January 27, 2005 That is why i refer to humanity as a "stain", becuase earth would be better off without us. Umm... Even I'm going to say thats a very cynical way at looking at our species.... A stain? Besides who cares if we mess the planet up its ours to mess. Share this post Link to post
GeneralZ 0 Posted January 27, 2005 Besides who cares if we mess the planet up its ours to mess. What! Are u saying its okay to ruin our planet?!! We're slowly killing ourselves by doing this! Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted January 27, 2005 Just wait till we have colonies living on the Moon and Mars  Then well have quite a puddle to clean up, wont we. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted January 27, 2005 geez... immeyourenot, you should really look into some anti-depressant medication or something. Seriously dude  The cynicism is almost overwhelming. Man, you must be the life of parties  Seriously though... luk3us, I like your thinking. It is a bit flippant, but... oh, and immeyourenot- life on earth is no accident. Read my earlier posts (I'd restate my points, but I'm too lazy). There is NO WAY for that to be true. Abiogenesis just does not happen. You would have to ignore everything we know scientifically to buy into that, and I really don't think you're that stupid. I give you more credit then that  Share this post Link to post
Mario 0 Posted January 27, 2005 well i believe in reincarnation but i'd rather not die at all Share this post Link to post
General immeyourenot 0 Posted January 27, 2005 geez... immeyourenot, you should really look into some anti-depressant medication or something. Actually I'm not depressed, I live a full & happy life & its uncommon for me not to be smiling, I'm grateful for everything that I have & I know there are a lot worse situations that I could be in. My view on humanity doesn't actually depress me, because I don't believe that I am being depresing, just realistic. As for things not randomly appearing, explain how a god randomly appears. I know you will come up with an answer, its your religion & you are right to defend it if you wish, I know that if there were any muslims or hindus here they would argue with you & try to say their side is right, I try to explain my point of view. So from now on I'm not going to comment on religion. No-one knows what is right until they die. End of Story. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted January 27, 2005 fair enough immeyourenot, but I'm talking from a scientific point of view. I just can't think of another possible explanation. Creation implies a creator. End of story. God didn't just "randomly appear," either... He is nearly indefinable, and is not bound to scientific or natural laws. Those are just a framework around our existence. In this universe things do not randomly appear, but God is not bound to the laws of this universe. He created it! It is beyond our understanding, but does make sense. Oh, and I am glad that you're not depressed. Smile! Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted January 27, 2005 God is like pidgeons; you never see baby pidgeons, they just appear as fully grown adults  Share this post Link to post
General immeyourenot 0 Posted January 27, 2005 God is not bound to the laws of this universe. He created it! It is beyond our understanding, but does make sense. Ok, but what would you say to those who argued that THEIR god was the true one, & by not worshipping him you will go to hell. Either way you can never know that you are right, that is why I take a step back. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted January 27, 2005 I would argue that the Bible is the only sound religuious text. Share this post Link to post
General immeyourenot 0 Posted January 27, 2005 & other religions would argue that theirs is the only sound religious text. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted January 27, 2005 but they would be wrong. The Bible is consistantly accurate and true, despite the fact that it was written over thousands of years by many many people from different cultures and time periods, and it consistantly delivers the same message. No other religious text comes close... not by a long shot. Share this post Link to post
General immeyourenot 0 Posted January 27, 2005 Tell that to a Muslim, he will come up with some stuff about Muhammed then go all jihad on your ass, you can't convert people, they have their own beliefs, I have arguements of why to disbelieve the bible, but like I said im not going their any more. I personally don't believe that anything written more than 100 years ago can be anything close to accurate (with exception for the Doomsday Book). If the bible was written by people of our time with all the knowledge that we posses then maybe I might acknoledge that there could be an element of truth in it, but I have never seen any god, no god has ever appeared to me, spoken to me, etc. So why SHOULD i believe in one? Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted January 27, 2005 Everyone has their own beliefs. While I myself am Catholic, I have on occasion thought, "What if we're wrong?" We say that all other religions do not have the full truth, and that some are just totally wrong. Well, I'm sure someone somewhere said something like that to a Catholic. And with the warring between Catholics, Jew, and Muslims over the ages, I kinda wonder, " If we're the people of God, then why are we all killing each other?" Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted January 28, 2005 Go the atheists!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! but they would be wrong If that isn't argonance then I don't know what is. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted January 28, 2005 If that isn't argonance then I don't know what is. well Luk3us, then you obviously don't know arrogance. I know I'm right! There's nothing wrong with thinking you're right about something! How the hell is that arrogant??? If we're the people of God, then why are we all killing each other?" Dude, this is such a typical thing... ugh. Ok... The world is a pretty bad place, and there is a seperation from God because of our sin. THAT'S why there's killing in the world. No one is perfect, even people who are on the right track with God. Now I have also, of course, questioned my faith repeatedly. It would be foolish not too. I'm not a blind, illogical zealot. I personally don't believe that anything written more than 100 years ago can be anything close to accurate (with exception for the Doomsday Book). Wow. Now THAT is ignorance. Do you not believe any historical records of any kind?? Geez... I have arguements of why to disbelieve the bible, but like I said im not going their any more. What, are you afraid? If you have ANYTHING substantive to say, SAY IT! Oh... and "their" implies ownership (that car belongs to them; it is theirs). You were probably looking for the word "there." I have never seen any god, no god has ever appeared to me, spoken to me, etc. So why SHOULD i believe in one? What would be the point of faith if it were that obvious? Why should God go to the trouble of personally catering to you? He sent his son in human form to die for us... and people, even after witnessing the miracles he performed, did not believe. If God did decide to appear, I guarantee that it would not be enough for someone like you. He has given all we need to believe. We have his word, the Bible, his manifestation of Jesus Christ, the natural law written on our hearts, and heck, even the miracle of LIFE is proof of God's existence. All that is more than enough for someone with faith, and faith is what God wants from us. Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted January 28, 2005 @ Cygnus: How much of Catholic are you? (I mean that in a questioning way, not an insult what-so-ever) E.g. What's your view on birth control? Share this post Link to post
