TheBlackOut 7 Posted March 22, 2005 TV History Channel is pretty good I think if you lookin for some education on a topic they're showing, especially 1 day before we start a lesson in school they show something intresting thing on it. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted March 22, 2005 It depends what you are looking for, the advantage over TV that a book has is that it can fit more information, and you don't have to watch it all before you find the info you want... It's like the DVD vs VHS video debate... only this time, one of the worlds oldest technologies has an extreme edge over the modern day technology. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted March 23, 2005 I think those types of programmes only really give you a general feel about the topic. If you wanted specific things you'd be better to look at a good old book. Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted March 23, 2005 picks up something called "Webster something" Its in good condition and its old...... nothing intresting there..... Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted March 30, 2005 Books have way more info. And its more fun, 'cause you get to "direct" the movie in your head. Look at all the novels that have turned into movies. And movies can only fit in about 3 hours. Share this post Link to post
apocolyp4 0 Posted March 30, 2005 I do prefer getting my information from books but I also realy enjoy TV documentaries as there is some things that arent as good in books like footage of an historical event. I watch about betwen 1 to 3 hours worth of documentaries a day (Its the reason I got Sky didgital). Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted March 31, 2005 When ever I turn the TV on theres nothing good but the Simpsons and few other cartoons. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted March 31, 2005 Its not fair all the good docos are all on at the gayest times.. Like 3am... Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted March 31, 2005 Tivo... or DVR. Haven't you heard of it??? It is a box that allows you to record television. It's possibly the greatest thing ever invented. Of course, my computer does that for me anyway... Windows Media Center Edition Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted March 31, 2005 DVR and all that yes, just not this Tivo thing.... Share this post Link to post
apocolyp4 0 Posted March 31, 2005 In Britain we dont have a problem with the times when Documenaires are on (thats if you have sky or freeview didgital ofcourse) as there are about 15 seperate chanels dedicated to documentaries with the history channel being my faviorite. chickendippers 1 Posted March 31, 2005 I don't know if you have Sky+ in Kiwi Land, but Tivo's almost the same as that...just not as good. Share this post Link to post
Hans5849 0 Posted March 31, 2005 books make you use your mind more because you have to imagine what it looks like. TV is the downfall of society Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted March 31, 2005 Then in that case, so is any advancement of technology. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted March 31, 2005 TV is the downfall of society No its just a down fall in sports... Since kids just stay inside and watch tv all day instead of going to that strange place with trees and grass and all that.. Share this post Link to post
Hans5849 0 Posted April 1, 2005 TV is the downfall of society No its just a down fall in sports... Since kids just stay inside and watch tv all day instead of going to that strange place with trees and grass and all that.. And now kids aren't getting exercise and thats why we are having an obesity problem in the US Share this post Link to post
FlaK 0 Posted April 1, 2005 I'd go for books. Why? Because they challenge you, you have to think for the majority of the time. When you watch TV you're just gazing blankly at a screen, when you're reading you're putting your mind to work, imagining scenarios and thinking about what's happening in this made up universe. GeneralZ 0 Posted April 1, 2005 i have around 10 tvs in my hous. but i don't watch tv. i read lotta books though. but i spend hours on my computer. I could live without tv, but i can;t live without my computer... grown to attached to it... Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted April 2, 2005 And books are portable, cost less, store easier, have instant pause and save, and dont up the power bill. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted April 3, 2005 which really hence the reason why e-books are an illogical waste of time and resources and do nothing to better or place advantage over the numerous wealth of data we have in libraries, studies and such. Unless you cannot get hold of a book you are looking for, what is the relevance in an e-book? because at the end of the day, you've still got to load up a damn PC then find the page you were on and all that crap, it just seems utterly pointless :? Cygnus X-1 12 Posted April 3, 2005 as opposed to oppening up your book right to where your book mark is in my expirience, the local library selection has been rather limited, but there are a few expansive (relatively speaking) libraries around, so I dont have much to complain about. I personally prefer to buy the books, and while it is more expensive, I feel that it is more convenient. And plus the more books you buy, the less travel back and forth to renew them or check them out again or whatever. Build up your own personal library. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted April 3, 2005 E-books are great... I have lots on my usb drive... Always useful when you forget to bring them... Besides its easier to get one of your friends to buy a course book then everyone just grabs the pdf off it... Saving you $50 odd bucks in the process... Share this post Link to post
J-Fire_Man 0 Posted April 3, 2005 E-books are great... I have lots on my usb drive... Always useful when you forget to bring them... Agree, I have some about computers and histories. But, it's kinda a waste of energy to read them via comp, but printing them are also cost hell lot of inks. I have an e-book with more than 500 pages, I don't know if my printer can handle that much pages. Afterall, books are still better than e-book. But however, TV is good too. I mostly use TV to watch animes, National Geographics and Biography (which are very educating and inspiring) Share this post Link to post
