I think it has something to do with the clouds approaching an opposing front and not being able to push through it. Pretty cool stuff.

From my perspective on those weather pictures:

 

The first picture looks like an incoming Scrin mothership from inside the clouds but the middle of it has precipitation. Notice the clouds round up like a circle.

 

The second picture looks definitely fake as it reveals a face in the clouds. Notice the eyes and mouth.

 

The third picture reminds me of a Harry Potter scene where dementors come from those blue and gray clouds. The blue clouds are rare to see though.

The second image, ironically is the only one that haven't been shot over time, letting the camera capturing all the movements in the coulds, the light, and of course the lightning strikes.

I don't see any face, I see a bad *** storm.
