Tree 0 Posted January 11, 2006 Associated Press SYDNEY, Australia An Australian man had to be rescued after becoming wedged in a washing machine while playing with his children, a newspaper reported Tuesday. Robin Toom, 38, had to be pulled from the 18-pound capacity machine by a local fire officer after he became trapped while playing hide-and-seek with his children, Sydney's The Daily Telegraph reported. "I just hopped in there and couldn't even get the lid down and the kids came in and said, 'Ha, ha! We found you,'" Toom told the newspaper. Toom, who lives in the northern Queensland city of Townsville, waited for an hour with his knees pressed to his chest before being rescued by local fire squad member Dave Dillon, the newspaper said. Rather than dismantling the washer, Dillon reached into the machine and pulled out Toom's wedged foot. Toom said he was planning to change the rules of hide-and-seek for his children. "I hope they don't go hiding in any washing machines now," Toom said. And because I also like this news story Sidewalk smokers told to carry ashtrayFrom: Agence France-Presse From correspondents in Madrid January 05, 2006 THE northern Spanish city of Saragossa has sent a message to the legions who have taken to smoking cigarettes on the sidewalks since Spain banned smoking in enclosed public places: bring an ashtray. The smoking ban, which took effect on New Year's Day, has forced city sanitation crews to clean up scores of cigarette butts outside office buildings, city officials said overnight. Saragossa's mayor, Juan Alberto Bellock, himself a former smoker, asked city residents to leave their offices "with an ashtray or some utensil which they can use to put the remains of their cigarettes." Keeping public spaces clean is as important as maintaining a smoke-free workplace, the mayor added. Spaniards, the heaviest smokers in Europe apart from the Greeks, are no longer able to light up in a wide range of public spaces, including food shops, many bars and restaurants and all workplaces. Acerz492 1 Posted January 14, 2006 That's a lie, and you know it. Littler population too... I say all countries have idiots, but the bigger the population, the more the idiots are around! True. But, just to be a nit-picker, is 'littler' even a word? Last I heard it wasn't. Share this post Link to post
_Gryphon 0 Posted January 16, 2006 In the Marriam Webster Dictionary and Thesaurus, "littler" is an official word Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted January 16, 2006 "America. I LOOVe America! Idiots all around !!"-somewhat altered from Jack Sparrow's quote in Pirrates of the Carribean  Hmm, Ive noticed something. Aussi, US. Both founded with Criminals, rejects, outcasts, and the politically incorrect. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted January 16, 2006 Oh, no no no. That is not a true characterization of the founders of America AT ALL. Australia yes, America no. Share this post Link to post
Alphabear 11 Posted January 16, 2006 Remids me of a something a canadian comedian said. "the Australians ****** off the British so they sent them to paradise, us canadians were always trying to please the British so they put us in the freezer for later." good thing is when we had our rebellion against the British rulers there were quick to meet our demands. Cygnus X-1 12 Posted January 16, 2006 Oh, no no no. That is not a true characterization of the founders of America AT ALL. Australia yes, America no. what did we do when they didnt please us ? Vandalism and arson but technically speaking, you are correct. BTW I was poking fun at the irony of the facts. Besides, it sounds better to say that all the European outcasts and rejects came over hear, and well, y'all know your history (hopefully) Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted January 16, 2006 what did we do when they didnt please us ? Vandalism and arson More mischaracterization dude... it was justified revolution. It wasn't just that they "didn't please us" Besides, it sounds better to say that all the European outcasts and rejects came over hear, and well, y'all know your history (hopefully) That is true. You can't argue with the results  ..and that is very funny Alphabear  Share this post Link to post
_Gryphon 0 Posted January 16, 2006 No offense to the British, but I think that Australia, AND America were founded by decent people (well, sort of, i mean, we ARE talking about austrailia  ) and that the British were, and maybe are, the strangest people to ever walk this earth. There was a man in London, I don't know what his name was, who actually went blind in one eye because he tried to take a sip of tea with the spoon still in his cup. The sad thing is that after that, two months later, he did it again and took out his other eye. Share this post Link to post

Meh... They just wanted us more. Also, when did you Aussies gain your independence? I was just learning alot of historical stuff about Britiain and jeez Britain! You took over so many territories and lost them later. :? Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted January 16, 2006 Britian had at one time like 1/3 of the entire planet. Then they lost it all but it all turned out well, Brits are Brits, what can you say ? I think they are fine people. As for Aussies. Theres a family of 6 down the street from me who we all born in California, moved to Austrailia for 10 years, and have been living here for hte past 5. They turned out ok. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted January 17, 2006 Britian had at one time like 1/3 of the entire planet. I think they are fine people. Definitely, agreed. Britain is like America's mother... who is now aging, a bit senile, and a huge nag, but she's family, so we love her anyway  As for Aussies. Roman Empire = They got ****ed up by Asians and Muslims. Japan = We kicked their arses. Britain = Well, now they are a small isle. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted January 17, 2006 Well, 1 of the 3 examples was actual "imperialism" I was talking about actual imperialism- as a function of mercantilism. The best example is obviously the British empire. In that case, the net result was definitely good. Just look at India and the Carribean (just 2 examples off the top of my head). India now is competing in the global market, and competing well, all because of British modernization and education. Many Carribean countries still benefit from the same things. If you've been there, you'll notice that the only decent standing buildings are the ones built by the British  The British empire was the best thing to happen to many countries. I dont know, Californians are kinda weird in themselves Hahaha, yes, I do agree. I'm Californian myself, but there's no denying the truth  Share this post Link to post
Alphabear 11 Posted January 17, 2006 basicly from what i can tell Californians and Australians are similar in attitude Australia is still a member of the commonwealth but from WW2 onwards America has more influence than Britain because we turned to america for help against japan where Britain couldnt do much and wanted to keep our troops in England. The Rebellion i was talking about was the Rum Rebellion. They thought we were drinking to much as rum was used as currency at one stage (which drasticly slowed economic growth as people kept drinking it) So when they tried to ban it that started the infamous rum rebellion which soon made them leagalise it.
