sheesh...that isnt the whole story....there's struggle, suffering, prejudice, poverty, success, betrayal, loyalty, metaphysics(ex. cormega-"life is an interlude to death"), and so on...

 

i wish you guys could just understand that there is more to rap than the eye or ear can sense...there is true rap beyond the mainstream...

 

by the way i love 80's and 90's rap....it was better than the modern mainstream.....

 

i find it sad that the mainstream rap overshadows the really good rap...

 

as for stating your opinions.....can you guys tone it down and spare us of your bashing? i mean i hold from bashing all the time...esp with Pres Bush.....its rude....to come in this topic and do what you guys do the way you do.....

I think Fenring has "bashed" with very valid points, as have you been defending with. The only big point I see, is why is Mainstream so bad? If thats what everybody likes, yet somehow, every one I talk to says mainstream is bad....then how the hell is it mainstream?!

Of course there's rap I haven't heard. I've said over and over that I do not follow it closely at all.

 

Mainstream doesn't define ANY genre. I get that already but if that's all I see, it leads to a skewed point of view, which I'll admit to having when it comes to rap. Even with that, I stand by my opinion.

There's a huge difference between bashing and counterpointing. Bashing would be this: rap suks cuz i dont like it!!!!1111. Counterpointing is this: I dislike rap because of this, this and this. There's a clear difference between the two.

Mainstream is the 'in' music. It changes every couple of weeks or so. It's not a good representation of musical taste among everybody. It's for the "in crowd" trying to look cool. Old-school and underground are really the way to go for good quality music.

You think the minority represents the rest of us? I listen to heavy metal and rock all damn day long and don't have the urge to kill my parents or anyone else for that matter. The same applies to all forms of music so I'll never say "rap makes people kill."

Again, you're comparing isoleted incidents to the majority. And I really have to doubt that metal or rock was the underlying cause of attacks. That's a complete load of bull****. There's more to it than that but sensationalism sells better than the truth.

tpuac and cormega................................i like mega better.............had good flow that mixes real good wit his lyrics...........and hes east coast......tupac is a different level......regardless if hes better or worse..

I don't believe it's that influential, if at all. People use music as a scapegoat for their own personal problems, and no one wants to blame the parents for anything either. It's always something else.

well i see all the underground ECT as having more of an infuence on me and people i know (the ones over 18 who can go to underground gigs without there folks worrying ) so i see it as mainstream.

 

Also how can MTV be having an infuence on me? I rarly listen to the radio i havent seen MTV for about 2 years (okay ive seen some MTV bass but thats alright sometimes)

 

You can say that most YOUNGER kids buy into mainstream and i aggree hense the reason when some kid put 50s Window Shopper on i fliped and instantly put some Immortal Technique on.

 

From the people in this forum who have comented that they have listened to rap all 3 of us have denounced the MTV 'MainStream' so how can it be Mainstream? just because it has so much more exposure dosnt mean the majority are up for it. Why else are we seeing declining song sales? these are all taken from the MTV 'mainstream' song sales. there has been no look at how the underground scene is doing and trust me UK underground has never been stronger.

 

Admitedly P2P has caused a decrease in general music sales but come on! you telling me that kids in the Bronx, Queens, Compton, South Ceneral & Peckham(UK) ALL have PCs with high speed internet connections? i doubt it i really do.

 

The fact is the whole MTV thing is blow outa proportions as (and you knew this would come into it) its mostly white kids who buy into the MTV thing all trying to be 'trendy' and 'in to it' :lol: none of these kids will ever hear Underground, Im betting the only times the gona hear voices like Nas ect are when they duet with more Mainstream rappers like K.West.
