Jarzka 1 Posted June 16, 2010 (edited) Me and my friend were playing Red Alert on LAN and noticed this, unprecedented effect. Do you have any idea what would it be? Edited June 16, 2010 by Jarzka Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 291 Posted June 16, 2010 That would be the legendary Chrono Vortex. There's a 20% of it appearing every time you use the Chronosphere I believe. Share this post Link to post
CCHyper 3 Posted June 17, 2010 Aye, the Chrono Vortex, and surprisingly for the WW programmers, its quite advanced Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted June 17, 2010 Then what is that big lighting cloud thingey that pops up in Red Alert called then? Share this post Link to post
Jarzka 1 Posted June 17, 2010 Ah, Chrono Vortex. Maybe it wasn't so mystical at all Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted June 17, 2010 What lightning cloud? I played Red Alert on the PSX back in the day, and it had a big lighting like cloud, but apparently its the same thing. Share this post Link to post
BioBen 3 Posted June 18, 2010 Maybe the PSX couldn't handle the vortex graphical script and so they just replaced it with a cloud. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted June 18, 2010 Probably, I prefer the cloud though. Ahh the good old days. Share this post Link to post
CCHyper 3 Posted June 18, 2010 Its pretty much that the PSX visual palette is smaller and more limited than the Windows PC. So in the PSX version they used the same logic as the shroud drawing and added a random seed routine. Share this post Link to post
CraftManiac 1 Posted June 18, 2010 It once appeared in my base... lost my army... And I had the quake thingy too... Share this post Link to post
Malovolpe 3 Posted June 18, 2010 Chrono Vortex's may be pretty to look at but if one gets into your base then its no longer pretty and it becomes a menace x.x Share this post Link to post
recover 2 Posted June 18, 2010 Interesting. I can't believe I haven't seen this myself. I assume it does not appear in singleplayer? Share this post Link to post
dbjs2009 25 Posted June 18, 2010 Chrono Vortex's may be pretty to look at but if one gets into your base then its no longer pretty and it becomes a menace x.x I'm happy because i haven't seen this thing before.. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted June 18, 2010 Interesting. I can't believe I haven't seen this myself. I assume it does not appear in singleplayer? Missions, no. But in skirmish, you bet. Share this post Link to post
CraftManiac 1 Posted June 19, 2010 Interesting. I can't believe I haven't seen this myself. I assume it does not appear in singleplayer? How could it appear in my game... (I always play skrimish) Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 291 Posted June 19, 2010 I'm pretty sure he just meant campaigns with 'singleplayer'. (Benefit of the doubt, and all that) Share this post Link to post
Inferno 22 Posted June 19, 2010 I'm pretty sure he just meant campaigns with 'singleplayer'. (Benefit of the doubt, and all that) Same. Share this post Link to post

Nyerguds 102 Posted June 29, 2010 I remember it being a glass ball effect in DOS RA, rather than the swirly thing... Share this post Link to post
Chronojam 3 Posted July 6, 2010 (edited) They'd also disappear sometimes, but reappear if anything got close. If I'm not mistaken they also eat a set number of things, so you could march a few infantry at it to get rid of the thing. Edited July 6, 2010 by Chronojam Share this post Link to post
Roadkill 0 Posted July 11, 2010 What I find strange is how chronal vortex is rare in the PC version compared to PS1 one. Honestly, on the PC the only way I could see it is by editing rules.ini and making it appear as a silver crate "bonus". On PS1 it apeared almost every my skirmish game. Share this post Link to post
