Sonic 295 Posted March 24, 2011 So the first non beta release of Firefox 4 has been released. Anyone made the update, what do you think. Getting used to a few changes but overall I like it. It's really fast so that's a good thing. You can update from inside your current install of Firefox or just go to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/ and start the download. Also check out http://glow.mozilla.com/ for something cool I've had to some minor coding fixes to CNCNZ.com, I noticed a few oddities pop up in Firefox 4 when display the main site. I've managed to apply quick fixes here and there. The entire backend and HTML coding for CNCNZ.com needs be scrapped and redone from scratch I think. Its on my long ass to do list. So here's what CNCNZ.com looks like in Firefox 4... Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted March 24, 2011 Downloaded it. Issues I have: 1) Status bar is gone! Nooooo.... So I use (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ad...4-evar/?src=api) 2) The new text rendering hurts my eyes. Turning off hardware acceleration fixed it, I think. Overall though, it feels just like the old one really. I haven't really noticed any change in speeds, but meh. New is better right? Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted March 24, 2011 1) Status bar is gone! Nooooo.... So I use (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ad...4-evar/?src=api) Its still there, but its turned off by default. It can be enabled here.... Although, that add on you linked to works way better, so I'll used that 2) The new text rendering hurts my eyes. Turning off hardware acceleration fixed it, I think. Yeah, I noticed it renders all the fonts different. The question is why? Share this post Link to post
PurpleGaga27 40 Posted March 24, 2011 May try it as a portable version, but yeah the new Firefox 4 reminds me of Google Chrome. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted March 24, 2011 I'll switch to Firefox 4 when I know all of my addons are compatible with it. I have a few I can't live without and if they don't work, **** it. Share this post Link to post
Inferno 22 Posted March 24, 2011 I'll switch to Firefox 4 when I know all of my addons are compatible with it. I have a few I can't live without and if they don't work, **** it. That. FF3 wasn't a very noticable improvement over FF2 either. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted March 26, 2011 Well. I'm using Firefox 4 on my laptop now. It's not really all that different to 3, except it's not hogging memory so badly. So I guess it's a good step forward. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted March 26, 2011 Yeah really liking Firefox 4. I think it runs way faster. It starts faster too. But like Luk3us, I had to disable the hardware acceleration setting in the options menu as well. It does a **** job rendering fonts with it enabled on certain systems. From what I read about this, its not a Mozilla problem. Its a Microsoft problem, something they haven't patched/addressed since Windows Vista's release or something. Share this post Link to post
Tore 33 Posted March 26, 2011 (edited) It looks a lot like a certain other browser now, which in turn looks like a certain other browser, which had a similar look to the certain other browser before it even existed. There is only one explanation! Attack of the browser clones! Edited March 26, 2011 by Tore Share this post Link to post

Inferno 22 Posted March 27, 2011 Imitation is the best form of flattery after all. It's also usually a sign of a lack of originality Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted March 27, 2011 I like it but I can't say it's a lot better than Chrome or anything else out at this point. I just don't use Chrome because I like the add-ons for Firefox better. Share this post Link to post
Guest Stevie_K Posted March 28, 2011 I'm still not completely satisfied with Firefox. It's nice to have plugins and all that, but Chrome just do things faster and easier. Firefox is my first choice for a secondary browser though. Share this post Link to post
rSquar3d 0 Posted March 30, 2011 Firefox sucked ass ever since Chrome got out. Now with the RockMelt variant of Chrome, I sure as hell won't use Firefox. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted March 30, 2011 For all you guys running Firefox 4 and think its slow.... get a faster computer. Firefox 4 is lightening quick on my PC. It loads fast, displays pages fast. It rocks! And wow!!! 45,423,087 downloads and counting http://glow.mozilla.com. Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted March 30, 2011 It loads fast, displays pages fast. Everything loads fast when there's a nearly empty hard-drive. Even Windows itself. Share this post Link to post
AZ-Stalker 88 Posted March 30, 2011 I'm not too happy about Firefox 4 moving all of the extra-opened tabs on top of the whole browser. Just downloaded it... I hope that's customizable. I liked the old tab locations beneath my address bar and bookmark toolbar a lot more. Share this post Link to post
rSquar3d 0 Posted March 30, 2011 Chrome is pretty fast too. This comp has been running the same OS installation for almost a year already; no hiccups in speed. But I'll try Firefox 4 for the sake of it. But no matter how I think about it, RockMelt owns all other browsers. PERIOD. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted March 31, 2011 I'm not too happy about Firefox 4 moving all of the extra-opened tabs on top of the whole browser. Just downloaded it... I hope that's customizable. I liked the old tab locations beneath my address bar and bookmark toolbar a lot more. You can change that. Just right click on the tab bar and uncheck the "Tabs on Top" option. With a bit of fine tuning and customising you can make Firefox 4 look just like the 3.x version. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted April 1, 2011 Don't know about speed, feels the same as it always has. Share this post Link to post
Gben 20 Posted April 21, 2011 Thanks for the tab on top tip Sonic - I don't know if it's better up there... but I'm used to it at the bottom. In fact I don't really like most of the icon re-arrangement and I haven't noticed any speed. But this old dog is trying new tricks... trying. Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 102 Posted April 22, 2011 lol addons. 90% of the simple functionality-adding plugins for Firefox are standard in Opera. Share this post Link to post
Area 0 Posted April 22, 2011 It's noticeably quicker than FF3, but since I've grown so accustomed to Chrome, I'm not movin back. Although it is nice to have another quick browser when compatibly issues come up with Chrome. Share this post Link to post
