May 21 Doomsday soothsayer Harold Camping's prediction has bombed, expectedly so. New Zealand’s Christmas Island was not hit by any earthquake even after the appointed time of the apocalypse passed the region.

It is official. It is Harold Camping, the leader of Christian radio network Family Radio, who ends with pie on the face. The LA Times reported that even after local time 6.P.M. passed the Christmas Island, no earthquake took place according to data from the U.S. Geological survey. Now atheists of the world can celebrate the busting of yet another end of the world prediction.

"As of 10:30 p.m. PDT -- 7:30 p.m. May 21 on Christmas Island, also known as Kiritimati -- no earthquakes had been reported within the last hour and a half, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, which tracks seismic activity worldwide," the report said.

Another win for Atheism. CNCNZ and it's kiwi residents are safe! :P

Anyone still predicting the end of the world is an idiot.

Anyone still caring about anyone predicting the end of the world is an idiot.

I think the Bible is pretty clear on people not knowing when the end is supposed to come, so it seems to me, anyone predicting an exact day it will happen using a few random calculations supposedly based from the Bible is a hypocrite.

The guy obviously already knew he was wrong from the start. With all the money he got, I'm sure he can now retire.

Honestly, if Joe would start a movement called "the Brotherhood of Nod", I'd be the first to sign up.

L. Ron Hubbard is quoted as saying "the easiest way to make money is to start a religion." And that's exactly what the doomsday people do.

The irony in that quote always amuses me, and it seems to demonstrate that Scientologists have got to be the most gullible people on the face of the Earth.

Indeed. The poor saps that actually fall for it might as well join Scientology. Their "prophets" aren't representing their religion anyway.

I'm surprised that these kind of things are not illegal. I mean, they're abusing the ignorance of a small group of people.

True.

I thought it was the whole world going to happen, but there's no sign of unexpected scientific phenomenon occurring.

I really don't know how people even want to do that anymore.

So true. And I just love laughing in peoples face. Can't wait for the first seconds of 2013. :P

Please use "I believe" before saying something like that. ;)

If people are that stupid, it's their own fault, really.

So you're saying scamming people should be legal as well, because it's person x's fault for being stupid and not seeing through the scam.

That would make all marketing illegal :P

Marketing, scam... what's the difference? :P

Scamming isn't legal, but gullibility is the sole responsibility of the party being sold.

Marketing doesn't have as far stretching consequences to a single person :P But I do see your point :P

I don't think telling another person to use his money on doomsday "marketing" can be called scamming. Rather stupidity or ignorance as you said yourself.

To be fair, stupid people should, and do, have rights as well.

Stupidity does not absolve anyone of personal responsibility. It is up to the individual to make informed decisions.

Government should make decisions for people. They know best. :D

I really disliked how hyped this got in the first place - thought it was "don't feed the trolls", not let's stick the camera on them and give them attention. But meh, end of the world is coming at some point, no point in wasting time trying to point to a specific date
