Windows 8... Again

Recommended Posts

I had installed Windows 8 RC on my PC, and what i can say is, that this OS have opportunity to became really "idiot-proof' system. However i don't have touch screen, so much of content that this OS offer is unreachable for me - like slide screen.

Of course i felt "a bit" confused without "Start" button, but same feelings a had when i was working on Ubuntu, but user can get used to it. Many features isn't unavailable, but it seems that this OS is made especially for people who spends most of the time on Internet and social networks.

Uhmm... It is a nice tool even on Windows 7... I will probably use it if I need to upgrade my XP computer.

I am still using Windows XP and Windows 7 together though on a double partitioned hard drive. I am not planning to go for Windows 8, maybe Windows 9 instead.

Windows 8 is last MIcrosoft OS with this title.

Also i wonder why do you need Windows XP, while you have WIndows 7?

I also use WinXP for most things on my personal PC, but I also use another one with both Win7 and XP installed (but rarely). I don't play any Win7-exclusive games or use any programs that require it. Using XP is my prefered choice because I'm just more used to it and don't like Win7's "fancy" interface and compatibility issues with older games and so on. It's just my OS of choice.

Installed Windows 8 on my new SSD drive. Runs smoother than smooth smoothie. I have nothing bad to say about it other than the "tablet touch pad feel" and the disappearance of the legendary start menu.

Start8. I am now your savior.

That adds the Start button/menu right? What's the point of upgrading to Windows 8 if you have to use third party software and hacks to make it work like Windows 7. Might as well just stay on Windows 7 if you that's what you like.

Windows 8 has some things that 7 doesn't like the Windows Store and more Xbox Live support. If you want the features, you have to upgrade. If you don't, then don't bother.

So who has Windows 8 here? And is it as terrible as I think it is?

I know it's released today but I am not excited about that.

I don't have the full OEM version to test yet.

I've had it for a while. No complaints really. It works as good as 7. It's merely a matter of getting used to the new way things work. If your'e afraid of interface changes then it might turn you off a bit in the beginning.

Then again, I haven't got the full version yet either. I'm buying it in a few days though.

I have bought it and i must say, that this OS is pretty good and... much cheaper to previous one. I had to pay 150 PLN (it's around 39 Euros) and i am really surprised how this OS boot up! Moreover i have Windows 8 Pro and i have really nothing to complain about this OS... maybe only why it mutes Internet Explorer when previewing Metro UI. Gosh! I don't even remember when i last time played Mahjong on PC!

I'll be sticking with Win7 until there's a need to transition to another.. Win8 is not awful, but I find it does not currently suite me (even with Start8).. I also don't find its out of the box experience with a laptop (HP 450) and touch pad particularly good..

The program allows to merge new Metro UI with classic "Start" buton. How does it works you may look below:

Of course it is fully customizable. You may put Metro UI to the left, right, up and down... or even erase it and put back classic "Start Menu".

my problem with Win8 is that it just designed for the Tablet generation, as the fact that i have to sell it on a daily basses i am not a fan, it is another WinME all over again. problems i keep getting is when you close a program it is not truly closed and the fact that it has way to much going on, on the screen, i dont like it. i got my copy free from Microsoft and i must still admit it needs to embrace both old and new users not throw out what the old user and stick with the new. to be honest i am sticking with Win7 as it does what i tell it to and it is easy to fix.

oh and as a weird side note you can change your theme to the old High Contrast..... that makes no sense to have that being even possible on Win8

Don't compare Windows 8 to buggy Windows Me, which couldn't even install a game without BSOD or famous "Unknown Error" window. The new child from Redmond is something totally new - you may hate it or love it, but world gone so much forward, that touch screens and every kind of info on main screen becomes something natural. It's a good move from Microsoft to release OS, which is more handy for touch than Windows 7, requires less space on HDD, fully supports SSD and will have nextgen DX.

I don't have much to complain about new Windows... maybe if Modern UI was an option to classic Start Menu... but i've got used to new Start Menu, so if i could everyone can.
