PurpleGaga27 40 Posted September 12, 2012 (edited) I came up with this poll just to see if you guys are willing to go for it. As for me, a definite no. Users currently having previous versions of Windows can upgrade to Win8 for only $40 USD in the US only (once the release is here), but for a limited time until 1/31/2013. Guest Rabbit Posted September 12, 2012 If upgrading gets me a serial number, then I'll buy the upgrade, at the very least. I probably won't use it right off the bat, but it wouldn't hurt to have it for when it eventually becomes necessary, or at the very least, standard. Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 291 Posted September 12, 2012 I'd say not unless they can give me a really compelling reason to. I'll probably just wait until Windows 9. Share this post Link to post
Traymen 6 Posted September 12, 2012 I'll buy if it will be as cheap as they says. Although i will legalise my PC after 20 years Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted September 12, 2012 Its a big fat no for me. I was sold on Windows 7 by this time in 2009, purchased it on the day of release. Windows 7 works great. If ain't broke.... don't fix it. I haven't really liked what I've seen and read about Windows 8 so far. I think Microsoft could have another Vista situation on their hands here. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted September 12, 2012 I might get a copy of Windows 8 if the rumors about playing 360 games are true. If they're not, I'll stick with 7. Share this post Link to post
Inferno 22 Posted September 15, 2012 I didn't consider going from XP to 7 a major upgrade. I don't see why this would be a game changer. Share this post Link to post
Tru Gaming 0 Posted July 19, 2013 I gotten a Laptop with Windows 8, Barely use the things it has to offer, I just use it like its a normal OS. Share this post Link to post
pichorra 4 Posted July 30, 2013 Why would I upgrade if XP still do the job? If it ain't broken, don't upgrade: ftw 1 Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted July 31, 2013 XP doesn't do the job anymore. :/ Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted July 31, 2013 I agree with Doc on this. WinXP is just far to old now. Day by day, month by month, year by year... Developers (software and hardware) are supporting less and less. Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted July 31, 2013 Bitch please. The only things I can't run on XP are OBS and Frostbite-powered games. For all else, I find my way 'round Share this post Link to post
Tore 33 Posted July 31, 2013 Bitch please. The only things I can't run on XP are OBS and Frostbite-powered games. For all else, I find my way 'round Arma 3, Rome 2 Total War, Company of Heroes 2, FFSplit, Office 2013, Bioshock Infinite, Planetary Annihilation........... Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted July 31, 2013 Arma 3, Rome 2 Total War, I don't have an overall configuration that can run those, so I don't blame XP for that. Company of Heroes 2 Seeing how Russia panned it, I'm not the least bit interested in it. FFSplit Office 2013 I run Office 2003 quite nicely. Besides, XP has support for 2007, dunno about 2010, but I'm fairly satisfied with the one that I have. Bioshock Infinite, Planetary Annihilation........... RONF-ZZZZZZZZZZ.... Tore 33 Posted July 31, 2013 (edited) Seeing how Russia panned it, I'm not the least bit interested in it. Men of War Assault Squad and the upcoming Assault Squad 2 is better anyways. I run Office 2003 quite nicely. Besides, XP has support for 2007, dunno about 2010, but I'm fairly satisfied with the one that I have. LibreOffice, Apache OpenOffice, Kingsoft Office and Calligra Suite are good alternatives too RONF-ZZZZZZZZZZ.... What? Edited July 31, 2013 by Tore Share this post Link to post
PurpleGaga27 40 Posted July 31, 2013 XP doesn't do the job anymore. :/ Partially. pfff Windows 2000 > Windows XP I never use Windows 2000 because it was the buggiest OS around with the most issues. I prefer XP over 2000. Share this post Link to post
Tore 33 Posted July 31, 2013 (edited) I never use Windows 2000 because it was the buggiest OS around with the most issues. I prefer XP over 2000. What? You must confuse Windows 2000 with Windows ME. Windows 2000 was one of the most stable versions of Windows ever released. Many people preferred Windows 2000 over pre-Service Pack 2 XP as it was more stable and used less resources. Windows ME on the other hand was so buggy that it would get a BSoD if you opened Paint... Edited July 31, 2013 by Tore Share this post Link to post
pichorra 4 Posted July 31, 2013 (edited) Windows XP is just a bloated 2000 version until SP2 came for it. ME "was just" a XP wihout the high-colors icons and the 9x kernel. they just bloated it in a way that it would require too much memory to run, and since 9x got a poor memory management, it became catastrophic. Actually it will run just like any other 9x OS if you got a huge amount of RAM. Currently, Windows OSes are becoming very bloated. Windows 7 got a lot of stuff that I won't use in my life, and so does Windows 8. With Windows XP, I only need about a 15gb partition to install it in, plus all others softwares that needs to be reinstalled after an system install (such as Microsoft Office). With Windows 7, I need 40gb for the same porpouses. I miss a feature that previous versions of Windows had. Asking what exactly the user wants to be installed in his system. For games that won't run in XP, actually people run it because the computer is somehow old, or because there aren't really any advantages for the Hardware he is running. He wouldn't upgrade to Windows 7 to get DirectX11, as his card only support DX9. As newest versions of OpenGL still run in XP, what is killing XP for gamming is the lack of newest versions of DX for it, since almost every company seems to create games only for DirectX. Plok 327 Posted July 31, 2013 Not to mention that newer OS's have a completely idiotic interface (greetz Win7 and Win8) in which nothing is obvious (I even think they cut some things), where in WinXP and earlier OS's (greetz Win9x) you can do whatever you want in 5 seconds, including turning the entire system inside-out if you want to. I'll probably upgrade to Win7 if I explicitly have to after WinXP loses support in April, but I will never turn to Win8. Share this post Link to post
pichorra 4 Posted July 31, 2013 After some time Windows XP gets unsupported, there is a community that port/hacks stuff from newest Windows versions back to a previous one. They did a amazing job with Windows 98SE/ME KernelEx, and there are some hacks to get XP-higher software back to 2000. http://www.msfn.org/board/ I think that XP will get in the same way. But I think XP will live longer due 3rd party software, as did Win98. Share this post Link to post

Plok 327 Posted August 1, 2013 Try creating a new file extension and assign it to a program, for instance. Share this post Link to post
